I was a police officer for 17 years and because of their LE role, the Coast Guard is the military branch I can most closely relate to. And living along the Texas coast, just 35 miles from Coast Guard Station South Padre, Texas, the USCG really has my respect and appreciation. Thank you for your service, ma’am.
keep up the great work Cadet!!..as a Coast Guard Alumni. Enlisted, not officer tho i did apply for OCS when I was in. Unfortunately never happened!! wish I could turn back the hands of time and stay in...served from 1966-1972, with three tours in Vietnam...YES FOLKS..COAST GUARD WAS IN VIETNAM!!!
Interesting on how the Coast Guard Academy, trains it cadets corp for future endeavors as Officers. 👏 I myself was in the Coast Guard - enlisted ranks (1980 - 1987), at a time you weren't even born. In the 7 yrs I served, I can say I only dealt with the officers rank at my first duty station, which was ship - USCGC Mellon (WHEC-717). My other duty stations were commanded by a Senior Chief & a Chief. Nothing against the officer ranks, but I preferred when a duty stations direct command was enlisted. Good Luck in your last year in the academy, & Coast Guard Career! 👊Respect👊
Cadet Edwards, I watched the unboxing and unveiling of your next school year, I was more excited you when I saw the Officers (Cadets) Saber. Stay with it. Before you know it you will be an officer. USCG need good officers.
It is a sword not a sabre , Sabres have curved blades , swords have straight blades. In this case the blade is straight which makes it a sword. army and Marine officers wear Curved blades (officers Swords specific to there respective branches of course) with there full dress uniform , making them sabres. Navy and coast guard officers wear a similar sword design with Special markings distinguishing them apart by branch. Hope this helps ! -Also Air force officers wear a similar blade to army , Making those also sabres as the blades are curved.
US military swords and sabres are purely ritual. In most services only enlisted receive them, except in the Marines, where because of their historical duties, enlisted Marines have swords too.
When unboxing, you started the sentence "a lot of times" and I half-hoped you'd finish with "we have to go to our backup weapons for law enforcement operations" or something.
I now understand the difference between the various uniforms, I see that the badges are different colors from grade 1 to grade 4. By the way, what does the 2022 on the Apollo cap mean?
Very informative! I learned a lot. I’m curious though... Do you buy and then keep all these uniforms? And are they the same ones you’ll wear for different occasions once in the fleet?
Enlisted and officers in all US military branches receive uniform allowances every so often (every branch decides how often and how much). They don’t pay for everything, but they pay for everything that’s absolutely mandatory. Every uniform Erin showed, except the regimental parade uniform, is a standard Coast Guard uniform. Only the rank insignia changes. As uniform items wear out or can no longer be worn, they need to be replaced. Also, when you get promoted, it’s typical to replace your uniforms as ripping off your prior sewed-on rank and sewing on new rank is difficult to do without damage to it, especially ODUs that she’s wearing in the video. With the dress jackets, you sometimes have an extra stripe added, and sometimes replaced, if possible.
I love your videos. I have shared them with my daughter who is a rising HS Sr, but she is in an Early College High School, so not sure how that would effect her admission. (She will have a 2 year degree when she graduates) Oh, and I thought the sword was incase the Eagle was attacked by Pirates'? Or the Navy?
The sword is the ceremonial/tradition weapon of an officer , they are no longer used in combat but instead worn on the full dress uniform for special occasions.
Great video I just seen on the news President Biden will be coming to the coast guard for the commencement graduation 👩🎓 How cool is that. Very blessed to be working here with the best of the best. I admire all you young cadets reaching your goals and working hard your such an inspiration to others young and old like me 😂 I hope you have a great summer off. Will be slowing down here soon probably will have some time off soon until swab summer looking forward to it.

It’s easy. Just go to the coast guard academy.
I believe it’s actually a saber.

Always amazed me at the different types of uni's the Cadet's had to purchase. Once worked in the uniform shop. It was in Chase back then.
making me want to go to the academy, also, that's my favorite instrument.
Looking forward to the next vid 🤞🏼

Great video! Greetings from Ukraine! It would be interesting to see a video about the sword, its characteristics and exercises with it.Good luck!

Swab summer is going to be exciting though I'm sure! I hope you have a good break, thank you so much for your encouragement!
Do you still get the A-Jacket?
We use to be able to choose between collar devices or shoulder boards on trop blues. As a cadet, do you have to wear the boards for uniformity?
Yep!
The Summer Undress Blue uniform (with collar devices) went out quite a few years ago. It’s just Tropical Blue (short or long sleeves) now.
Do you know by any chance what the tag on your saber belt said? Like what company made it
Does every single senior receive a dress sword?
You pay for it but yeah. They also break pretty easy unfortunately.
