  • Hey, folks. Bet you didn't expect to see me again so soon. Well, I'm going to try to be making more videos more often. And this is another one of my 15 Minute Game Show Reviews and this is one you probably don't know about: the original 1976 version of Double Dare. No Sundae Slide here, but there is a pre-Jeopardy! Alex Trebek as host.

The assistant producer on the game show Double Dare was none other than Markie Post, who also played Christine Sullivan on the TV sitcom Night Court. She was also a guest star on game shows such as The Match Game-Hollywood Squares Hour and Super Password.

Double Dare was the forerunner to social distancing with the separate isolation booths.

It was actually referred to as the "reattempt at using isolation booths" after the Jack Barry/Dan Enright scandals

Easy to hate a show when your cheques turn into rubber

Beat the Spoilers is like final jeopardy except the spoilers do not make wagers and they do not lose money for wrong answers.

Most of Jay Wolpert's shows had a cartoon opening

I was thinking "Take The Dare." Call the Dares, "Dare" and "Dare X2 (Times Two)." Beat The Spoilers or Outsmart would not just be Phds...but might include child prodigies.

Any possible reboot would have an obvious title -- "Triple Dare."
Keep the format the same, but offer three dares, instead of two. The format is solid, no need to self-contain.

While you're mentioning all the shows Alex appeared on over the years, there's one I remember seeing that you missed. He appeared on "Baywatch" during an episode where one of the lifeguards (I forget which one) was supposed to be a contestant on "Jeopardy", but after she saved Alex from drowning, she was disqualified from appearing. Despite delivering the bad news to her, he did give her the package of parting gifts they still gave to contestants at the time.

Since CBS and Nickelodeon are owned by the same parent company, I’d call the Nick show “Nickelodeon Double Dare,” and this show would be called “Double Dare CBS.”
