Some areas are requiring biodegradable cellulose plastics. Check your local laws. I actually shred ours for our worm bins. We have an Hmart two blocks away! Joy!
@jackstrubbe7608 Why is that not more common? It kills me that we have the knowledge and technology not to be completely terrible but yet it's so rare to see things like biodegradable items like cellulose.
So i live in korea and yea most fruit you can buy is plastic wrapped. Also the big balls of ice are a somewhat new thing, only started seeing them about 2 years ago. If anyone has an hmart near them, i reccomend you trying honey butter chips and milkis. The chips specifically are insanely popular, and everryone loves them. Milkis a yoghurt soft drink and you either really love it or just kinda dislike it
The HEB stores in San Antonio TX sell Asian foods, & other cultures as well, & all have amazing fresh fruit & veg from exclusively Texas regions. I miss them so much!
I grew up in southern Ohio, and there's an international market there called Jungle Jims- Jose, you HAVE to find an excuse to go there someday. There's two locations and they each have cool unique stuff. There's a whole collection of old animatronics, including a scale replica of Sherwood Forest (complete with Robin Hood and Maid Marian) over the UK/Australia section. The asian section is *amazing*, and they don't just have a deli- they also have charcuterie (including head cheese), house made fresh mozz, an olive bar, and giant wheels of cheese bigger than a person. It's an Experience™. Oh, I almost forgot to mention the in-store bar where you can taste anything on tap for $0.25, as well as a kombucha bar in the health food section.
I love HMart! I usually just get my groceries delivered by Weee! (Asian grocery delivery service) but if I go grocery shopping at a physical store, HMart, 99Ranch and Pacific Island are my go to!
LOL Hubster & I have begun introducing our 9 and 7 year old to Asian cuisine, ramen specifically. First, I made a homemade Tonkatsu that took 72hrs but was worth it because they were willing to try some store-bought varieties. 7 year old’s comment watching the ramen aisle, “I wouldn’t just shop there…I’d want to LIVE THERE!!” El Cake - thanks for making food fun and helping me raise good eaters!❤
The bug eggs would be on the fruit days before being wrapped lol. Wanting fruit that sits and sweats inside plastic is disgusting. Also, the acid that is released when the fruit sweats breaks down the plastic, so you end up eating lots of micro plastic
Wrapping your fruit in plastic or keeping them in a bag will help them ripen faster! The ethylene gases released will be trapped and those gases will accelerate the ripening process.
Dude is wrong. Not all are open every day of the year and not all have veggies/fruits wrapped in plastic and having worked for USDA you have bug eggs in most of your fruits and veggies whether dead or alive. Dude is terrible for this advice.
Jose, I want you to know that you seem like an extremely wholesome dude and that loves and focuses on the right things in life. Keep it up and keep being you brother
My fridge makes craft ice like that… love it. I used to hate ice in my drinks because it would melt so quickly and water everything down, but I love my ice spheres. Who knew it could be life changing. I’d definitely like to visit the H-Mart in Houston. But it’s about a hour from me. Wish they had one closer.
H Mart's come so far since it's humble beginnings as Han Ah Reum. The original location in Woodside, NY was renovated and reopened in 2023 (after an excruciating 2 years) with the new branding and style, but in the same footprint as the original. It's much brighter and easier to navigate, but a part of me will always be a bit nostalgic for the original's familiar vibes (the food and dishes they used to cook in-store also tasted much better in the Han Ah Reum days, but maybe that's just my nostalgia talking)
I’m in des Plaines IL and we have an H Mart not to far from here and it’s so cool in there. It’s a grocery store but when you walk in there like all these small businesses like walking into a mall. You can get your nails done and buy shoes and flowers and jewelry and book a vacation on your way out of the grocery store lol
👋 I'm from Franklin Park but live in Charlotte now. I didn't know we had an H mart back home! Out here, we have a knock-off called G Mart. Pretty awesome, too. We just got a new G Mart that is suspiciously more like H Mart and it even has the French bakery/café in that little entrance strip like H Mart 😋
I love our H Mart, the food court is amazing and the products are reasonably priced. It makes shopping a breeze without a ton of stops at different stores
That's neat. Your H-Mart is so different then mine. Mines probably a franchise. They don't have as much of the fruit in plastic and the general vibe is more....idk dirty? It's a fine store tho!
Sounds cool, would love a place like this in my city, but I live in the upper Midwest where people tend to not be very adventurous with their food and generally tend to stick to the most boring food, think of the food choices you have in England and we have just ever so slightly more options than that. The most adventurous these people get is the “Ethnic Food” aisle in our local Walmart that actually only takes up like 1/4 of the aisle and it’s mostly just different types of rice and a bunch of sauces that you would stereotypically think are Asian.
I love H-mart. They have really great quality meats, seafoods, & produce. Tons of packaged food options. And many of their items are a much better price than your standard grocery store. I like to get whole fish from there. They often have whole fish (guts removed) for anywhere from 2 to 5 bucks. Take it home and steam it. Super easy, fast, and healthy meal. Of course they have many other fish items, and filets, and even live seafoods.
H-Mart Rocks!!!! I used to go to the H-Mart in Aurora, Colorado and sure miss it. I wish they would come down to Florida. There is a large Asian population and others that would keep it rolling in money. All the fresh and live seafood, sauces and fruits, veggies, health care items and So Much More were so Amazing!!!
