I have a 2021 FE501S. Do the triple combo: 1) Euro air box (from the dealer) 2) Yoshimura or FMF exhaust. 3) Vortex or GET ECU. It is night and day difference. Stock, the bike has Asthma. I have the Yoshi and Vortex. There is no more hesitation or flame outs. The engine is instantly responsive with the throttle now. It’s an amazing bike, but the factory had to restrict it out to make it smog legal.
@@MiddleagedMoto One thing that’s important about the 3 mods, you cannot do just one, or only two. You have to do all 3. If you do only the intake or exhaust alone, or worse, both, the bike will run too lean and you can damage your valves from overheating them (proper fuel mixture keeps them cool). You need the ECU to supply the new tuned MAP which has been tuned WITH intake and exhaust done. It controls the fuel and ignition timing. The Vortex I have has 10 MAPs to choose from, but you can only preselect one at a time. With the optional handlebar switch from Vortex (the dirt version FE501 has a factory MAP switch installed but the FE501S does not) you can program it to select one of the other 9 MAPS available with the flip of a switch. I don’t have this yet but when I do I plan on using the 2nd position for high altitude since we frequently ride above 4,000’. Position 1 is the default high performance MAP.
Love your videos! But I will tell you what a few mods to do. Taco Moto GET ECU, promoto billet end cap or slip on exhausts remove the reeds in the air box and adjust idle to spec. Completely different bike. I did all that (graves exhaust) and it’s amazing. Still jerky but completely different bike. I had flame outs(stalling) like crazy and idle was set to like 1300rpm. I run my ecu in the more tame “single track” map and it’s plenty. Put it on race map and did a wide open pull and before I realized it I was hanging the front tire.
You need to buy a more aggressive throttle cam. I see you twisting your wrist all the way down 180 degrees. The aggressive cam gives you all the throttle you need in the first 1/3 turn. You also need to speed shift by pulling in the clutch and not letting off the gas that will increase your roll-on drag speed.
I agree with you the gearing is so close to each other on the lower end . I find my self changing the gears 1-4 to quickly just to cruise comfortably at 35-40 mph. Anything more then it will scream on 4th so I keep it on 5th a lot for cruising around town. I owned a CRF250L before i purchased this bike. I rode it for about a few months and was going to trade it back in because i wasn't used to the vibration and engine noise like these huskies give, but eventually I just tuned it all out and it doesn't brother me much anymore. Do you have any experience with the crf 450RL? I was thinking maybe those bikes have less of the vibration and a bit smoother. I also don't want to go backwards also knowing that huskies are top of the line .
Thanks for stopping by, I also considered the 450RL, but from what I’ve read about it you gotta do ECU or you get really bad flame outs. So I just went with the Husky.
@@MiddleagedMoto in Australia we have them ready to race out the door, registered on road. That bike should get you to 170km in standard trim uncorked. Obviously not their intended design use. They are built to win world enduro championships.
@@stevemacca786 We use to be like that. Now the government neutered us. The goal is to get rid of off road machines all together. No one will admit that though.
You have to get a new ecu and muffler. Completely different bike after that. And those stock tires are going to cause a crash. Smashed my ribs up because of the tires. Amazing bike, congratulations.
Great to see you doing well. I’m guessing fall is an excellent time for riding there. Sure is around here. Took my Buell out today. Super fun but also felt old climbing off her after an hour and half rip 501 seems like a lot of fun. Stay safe bro 😎 🤘🤘

Thanks! I’m starting to read about doing this now.

Dude with the fmf it’s an absolute monster
I got the ktm 500. I put 15t / 44t sprockets on for a slow controlled 1st gear in woods. Still plenty get-up on the freeway/back roads

How about the maintenance in the street version?
Are the intervals service the same as the 100% dirt version?

I've got a crf450l, it rides pretty good on the street, except for the throttle, I've modded the stock throttle but it needs a vortex 100%
That bike sounds extremely corked up. For the American EPA I’d assume?
Yes it is, I’ve done no mods yet lol

Thanks for stopping by and thanks for your input. I’m planning on doing both.
What kind of ECU if you put on a full FMF 4.1 system?
I broke a knee due to the combination of the stock tires and the flameout on my 2022 FE501S. s
