    One thing that really helped me with my ollies is there’s this focus on a sideways foot, when, dexterity wise, it’s easier to bend your ankle to have your foot slightly angled when your muscle memory is new, not like a kickflip, but not completely sideways either. That unlocked higher ollies for me and eventually I was able to Ollie with my foot the suggested way once my dexterity and muscle memory was there.

    i just landed my first ollies going up the sidewalk a few days ago and i must say, the fact that she managed to improve a tiny bit her ollies and then get the timing for using them in such a short session is kind of insane, at least to me, as the timing plus speed required was the hardest thing for me to get right, so yeah;
    Congrats on those ollies over the lamp! ^^

    What really helped me when I started Ollie is that I kept reminding myself focus on the back foot pop and really try to bend my knee and jump. For beginners it’s hard to slide front foot to level the board when there’s not enough pop.

    Congrats to Ashley on improving her ollies and her overall progression! This series with her has been fun to watch.
    I'd like to suggest that Braille do a video in which y'all set up a board that has grip on the tail and nose, but none between front and rear bolts, and then do a bunch of ollies with that setup. I believe you'll find that most of the Braille ollie tutorials don't accurately describe what happens with the front foot drag/slide during an ollie. The front foot does not bring the board up using friction during the drag. Instead, the front foot mostly acts as the fulcrum of a lever on top of the board, allowing the rear trucks to be levered upward.

    Another tip is to get comfortable finding your foot position without looking at your feet. If you're concentrating looking at your feet before an obstacle it's alot to get into your mind to Ollie over something. Focus and look at the obstacle from start to finish. Lol if that makes sense.

    Just Rolling around really does help. I haven’t been skating for the last few years but I never stopped rolling around. Sometimes I used my cruiser board to work. I’d skate parking lots to gather paid signatures for ballot initiatives in Florida.
    I’m out of shape now but I didn’t loose much. I’m a little off balance but it’s ok. Wish I never stopped but thats ok too. Just rolling around makes you comfortable being comfortable makes tricks easier.

    Skating to work everyday was awesome at first, but after a while it wasn't pushing me anymore. so now I incorporate trick practice into my commute. Maybe one day I focus on ollies, the next day shove its, the next day I drop down as many curbs as I can. So now, I'm still progressing even if I don't have the time for a full session.

  • @vaccinhate5099

    I learned Ollie through doing fakies, before I knew what a fakie Ollie was till someone informed me lol. I also ride the same stance as her. If you feel comfortable with fakies just keep practicing them then apply that when you get it down enough to where you feel more confident in your Ollie. However, I am impressed how quick she was able to learn to Ollie in motion. IMO that’s harder than stationary so that’s awesome. I would instead of marking the nose mark where you want to place your foot, below bolts, Middle was my sweet spot and then have your foot off the board a wee bit more. That way will help a lot more because your foot has more room to slide and i found it much easier if I have my right foot off the board, almost like you’re going to kick flip, then you will just do the slide without even thinking, muscle memory! Not to continue ramble, I apologize for this essay, but bend your knees just a bit more and it should help with higher Ollies, and of course like they said people forget it’s jumping so the higher you can manage to jump with the board and with everything else I said applied I guarantee you will master it! You are already impressive, keep it up 👌🏻 edit: I forgot to mention you want to apply more pressure on tail with your left foot, that will increase the pop

    Also lifting the back foot up right after the Ollie is important instead of just kinda leaving it where it is when popping. After sliding front foot up the length of the board to the nose in order to level out the board, the back foot that's doing the popping also needs to come up to the same level and height as the front foot so that there's no overcorrection/noseplant (at least when beginning and starting out, because later on those noseplants will actually come into play) and will make the levelling and straightening out of the board at the apex of the Ollie that much easier. They become smoother, better, tighter, higher and just second nature at that point. Another thing that helped (when I was taught) is to practice jumping rope, with the various techniques and characteristics of the physics involved being applied to the board in certain ways to increase stability, control, and balance! Such as single foot hops, double foot, sidesteps, alternate steps/hops etc. then of course practicing the various harder styles of jump rope while progressing through harder/more difficult styles of tricks and stances later on, at each level of persistence and progression. Just some additional tips and helpful guidance! But not in any way to be taken as a must, it does help tho!
    It's amazing watching Ashley soak up the knowledge and experience and progress so quickly which I think stems from her natural comfortability from being on the board and just rolling/cruising around long before she started doing tricks! Great work all of you!
    Skateboarding is all about the journey and not the destination...unless you're scouting a sick spot to shred them it becomes about the destination too!!! Lol
    Let's Go!

    • @dieseldabz7104
      @dieseldabz7104 2 года назад +1

      Ya you actually have to JUMP and she just isn't

    • @chaosoul-seanleeriggs369
      @chaosoul-seanleeriggs369 2 года назад

      @@dieseldabz7104 Exactly. It's like a four-step process, when broken down, but still have to get both feet in the air equally, and land in unison...even though you start the jump with one leg/foot first.
      I was taught to simply practice jumping in place before even touching a board (even if comfortable on one and in control)
      Jump by bringing one foot up at a time then landing with both. Alternate to see which if either is the more dominate for balancing and which is the one for height apex. Then always focus on bringing the knees up to the chest (eventually) and while in mid air keeping legs at same level and balanced to land square with both at same time. Then incorporate that into the board control dynamics. I feel and think it's a matter of fear of a loss of some kind of control in that scenario for certain beginners...keeping the popping foot lower and closer to the board which remains closer to the ground, idk.
      The other important thing is to get over the fear of falling, bailing or hitting the ground with the body. It's gonna happen even professionals always hit the ground at points. Heck, watching Rodney Mullen's video parts and practices ... He hit the ground more than people realize but not as much as others, but you can see it in his clothes how dirty they are from trying new innovations when he was active. Learn how to fall and take a hit with your terrain but properly so that even though it may hurt, one doesn't get hurt in any impeding or serious way. Mogely has an awesome older Braille vid specifically about this and for this reason. Knowing how it feels to hit the ground, but as safe as possible by being aware of all that can go wrong and how to prepare mentally physically and emotionally!
      Those two things (jumping and bailing properly/learning to fall -which is the first thing they teach in gymnastics as well) will do wonders for beginners. Then it gets kinda pushed outta mind and one can progress further and easier and of course safer!
      I think Ashley will get it, just too much going on mentally and needs to simplify those thought processes and focus on the current task at hand. Also Aaron Kyro's SMS is very helpful even to go back to the basics for intermediate and advanced skaters!
