This is what happens when someone with 0 natural talent trains and studies basketball really hard. Good for him for having the drive. Moves a little goofy though. Needs to loosen up and relax his movements.
Good job Ryan, your handles are good and that was a good trick.....just work on keeping your head up on double ball drills like some of these folks constructively criticized. I'll keep practicing that move. Keep posting videos.
Later in the vid he starts doing the jab and the cross almost simultaneously which is kind of interesting. At 2:57 he says "really lean into it" and I think this is misleading, no pun intended. What you probably want is to prepare your center of gravity for the move while "showing" the fake with the ball and your light apendages, like a bull fighter shows the red cape to the bull one way while moving his center of mass the other way because he can quickly pull the cape back after the bull bites. In this proposed variety the jab serves two purposes. First it is an appendage that shows the fake to the defender. Second, it jams on the breaks on the momentum transmitted to your center of gravity for the change of direction. What sequence the step, the crossover, and the change of direction should take probably need to be experimented with in-game and maybe all are valid if alternated so the defender can't predict which is coming.
this move is solid it makes the defender pause. if u dont have great handles or not athlietc/long enough to do a traditional crossover, this really works well
if you add old school fundamentals to your game you should be a excellent player. this is why I like this video. simple but effective straight to the point...
this is one of those spastic moves i never take seriously. if you watch, he's barely changing direction laterally at all. as a defender, watch the middle of the ball handler's waste and you'll never fall for this.
This is actually a good move that players in the NBA use a ton, but most people probably don't realize that it's a discrete move. I've seen it called a misdirection crossover. It's great as a finishing move for a fast break when there's a defender back.
it's another tool to add to your offense. it's always good to build on these so you're not predictable. at the end of the day the goal is to break down the defense and like any other move, this one will work on some but not all.
do you have any tips for better dribbling ? , i dont want like super nasty dribbling , i just want like simple dribbling tips and stuff , tips for better crossover
Hey, Ryan, the jab step then making the cross-over is a good move, and I appreciate the lesson, but it was not viewable! I can understand the first few seconds, but what's with that advertisement blocking the screen the entire video?
once you get good at the regular crossover it becomes difficult to reverse the action but i need to get this move down any drills or ways to practice it?
@sandeehoward Whenever I teach this move at clinics I always do it "LIVE" against a defender. Hasn't been stopped yet. You can use it when you're closely guarded if you can create one arms length of space before making the move.
This move is pretty good, its unorthodox way is deceptive. I think its best use while running down the lane. I love moves like this rather than the normal crossover's which is still good but sometimes you have to be weird and smart not just athletic.
honestly, this doesn't seem logical.. I'll have to try it out but won't the defender follow the direction in which the ball is going and not the jab? thinking iverson and rose have worked great thus far...
You're looking down at the ball the whole time you do that 2 ball dribbling drill which kind of kills the purpose. The crossover is kind of slow too and doesn't make much sense, the point is to catch them reacting to the ball and not you. So even if they're staring at the ball they won't bite on that little jab with the ball behind you.
this move is unstoppable, quick, easy, minimalist cross thats sure to at LEAST freeze the defender for a split second and if you keep it low, a split second is all you need. i just gotta work on making this crossover feel natural...its an odd concept to jab and then cross. time to get in the gym
this move is sick. practiced it for a little, and it completely wrecked people. works even better for shooters, as it moves people away from your shooting hand and you can step into your shot. nice tip!
I'm the starting point guard for my varsity team in school. I'm only 5'6" and can dunk but i still need to create space or find ways to the hole. i tried this in a game that we had a blow out in and the defender who was one of the top ranked defenders in my state got some broken ankles and i finished with a nice fake shot pass for an easy assist. this move worded in the next game too people don't see it coming the lat jab makes them think you are changing direction very effective!
I'm quite doubtful about this... when I guard a dribble move I'm usually focused on the opponent's core. That's the one part they can't fake with so if you're delaying your real drive by putting the jab after the cross, it's actually a really slowly executed move. It's an interesting concept but I just have my doubts about this move.
This is a good move but the fault of it now is that defense look at waist for movement and if the see the ball change direction they get the head start on known were your going unless your going to counter it with a behind the back or dibble back to main dibbling hand you started off with.
woah that helped me alot im used to jab then crossing and it works alot of the times because of my quickness but if i were to cross then jab then drive itll seem as if im that much quicker!!! just subscribed :)
so when u dribble to crossover to the next leg... u fake ur leg and foot that ur dribbling off of at the same time dribble? all together while running? if thatss right ill practise it
the hell... I did not know that was a crossover. I'd been doing that since a kid but i never execute it in a real game because that "jab" is a "ram" to me. I "ram" it then it becomes a layup.
It's called a Stutter Step/hesitation, same exact move, all you're doing is emphasizing the crossing the dribble from one hand to the side you going to move.
yup this is definetely a hard move to MASTER. easy to just jab and cross over and would be more effective when you are very athletically gifted with speed and agility (rose) but with the pistol pete crossover it is very DECEPTIVE! even out of shape players can get a move flowing like this if they know it.
Yea I Dont think that cross would be effective when im guarding you. And for all you other non ballers saying that you follow the ball???!!! WTF are you talking about....you clearly dont know!!!
not a fan of this technique..maybe a quick studder step before the jab fake would increase the chance of the defender to give you that foot of space that your looking for..say that your sprinting down court in a 3 on 2; 2 on 1 scenario and I'm charging down dribbling with my right, what I've found pretty affective is that by the time I get to about the 3 line I'd studder, jab right HARD, wait for his reaction then cross, and finish either lay-up or pop the 15 footer..
pete used to go from high to a low double pop of the ball. you could hear it. he explains it on red on roundball and his homework basketball. ck it out. i learned at his camp years ago.
hellasow b yeah, i'm pretty sure he is a skills trainer at the NBA level... he gets paid to teach basketball... so yeah, getting paid to do something technically makes one a professional.
Ryan, you have amazing skills, but it's even more amazing that you still resemble a teenage boy even though you stated you went to college already!! :P
Did the nigga really need a 1 minute 20 sec intro complete with Tarzan music?
Ted Wong dudes a ducking spaz
Ted Wong thanks for the tip
1:20 long intro.....little dramatic i think
the minute plus long intro was very much appreciated and not a waste of my time
Next lesson , he is going to dribble the ball without looking at it ....
lmao bet the guy is a horrible passer in a game
***** because he looks down when he was dribbling.
1:37 only The Pistol could fake a pass after making a pass
Dead
Lol hell yea u got his ass .I thought that's what I heard
Way to long intro
Double tap the +10sec a few times, and shorten it, while seeing some hight level two ball drabblin coordination ? 👌🏼👌🏼
This move is great, using it more and more and it is slowly becoming one of my go-to moves. Thanks
A minute 30 seconds for a fucking intro? Wtf
The fuck did I just watch?
This is what happens when someone with 0 natural talent trains and studies basketball really hard. Good for him for having the drive. Moves a little goofy though. Needs to loosen up and relax his movements.
😂😂😂😂😂 y'all are too funny in these cmnts man someone else said he looks like a serial killer ! Lol y'all be nice to dude man lol
I remember watching this video when it came out and now it’s probably my most used move. Leaves defenders in the dust ALL DAY 🤣
Smart and the moves actually work. Got my friend eating dust. Great Tutorial !!
after you cross then jab step, is there a bit of a hesitation dribble? or do you just dash immediately?
Good job Ryan, your handles are good and that was a good trick.....just work on keeping your head up on double ball drills like some of these folks constructively criticized. I'll keep practicing that move. Keep posting videos.
Show the left hand man.. that might work one time in a game, max. What college you play at?
Later in the vid he starts doing the jab and the cross almost simultaneously which is kind of interesting. At 2:57 he says "really lean into it" and I think this is misleading, no pun intended. What you probably want is to prepare your center of gravity for the move while "showing" the fake with the ball and your light apendages, like a bull fighter shows the red cape to the bull one way while moving his center of mass the other way because he can quickly pull the cape back after the bull bites. this is a good move but a not very good explanation. No hate or anythin and just askin, what do you do after you jab, whats the footwork after that?
Dude, this is literally a cross over with a slight hesitation. This is not even effective.
If used correctly at the right moment using combos with this move, you get people moving badly. This is a fresh move.
this move is solid it makes the defender pause. if u dont have great handles or not athlietc/long enough to do a traditional crossover, this really works well
This move works almost every time. Unbelievable. James harden is a master at this. Cross first then jab.
And now it is the "bulldog crossover". Thanks Goodson!
if you add old school fundamentals to your game you should be a excellent player. this is why I like this video. simple but effective straight to the point...
this is one of those spastic moves i never take seriously. if you watch, he's barely changing direction laterally at all. as a defender, watch the middle of the ball handler's waste and you'll never fall for this.
*Waist
if you actually do it it works, guarding it is a nightmare
FAYMprod why the duck would you watch his shit??!!
kyrie Irving does this and he even faked the pistol pete crossover
You are exactly right. NO lateral movement at all.
This is actually a good move that players in the NBA use a ton, but most people probably don't realize that it's a discrete move. I've seen it called a misdirection crossover. It's great as a finishing move for a fast break when there's a defender back.
Nice advice. Very tough to master but excellent.
1:50 is the start of the move. Anything prior to that is bench-warmer talk.
thanks, it's been so long for me to find this cross over......
opened my eyes
it's another tool to add to your offense. it's always good to build on these so you're not predictable. at the end of the day the goal is to break down the defense and like any other move, this one will work on some but not all.
do you have any tips for better dribbling ? , i dont want like super nasty dribbling , i just want like simple dribbling tips and stuff , tips for better crossover
Hey, Ryan, the jab step then making the cross-over is a good move, and I appreciate the lesson, but it was not viewable! I can understand the first few seconds, but what's with that advertisement blocking the screen the entire video?
Keep seeing this same comment about ads, you can just turn them off in your settings, problem solved.
I mean, the guy's handles aren't that bad. He is just very unathletic. If he was super quick and explosive, his moves would probably look pretty good.
He nice with it though
once you get good at the regular crossover it becomes difficult to reverse the action but i need to get this move down any drills or ways to practice it?
this move is crazy effecive in my tornament games, when ever i do it everyones all like "yooooooooooo he got him stumblin" nice vid
vid starts at 1:19
you wanna jab first because thats how you get the defender to start moving, having the ball being in the hand that you jab toward sells it even more
Good insight. When I played football in high school I didn't because I knew wide receiver routes on defense so I was more-less anticipating lol
Yo this cross over over is highly effective on the fast break especially on a one on one
This move is highly effective. Well done.
Could you make a basic crossover video. I want an effective crossover to get me (a small guard) some extra room
Great vid. And good move for players to use. Surprised not more NBA players use this.
Funny how something so simple, can be so effective. Great vid.
@sandeehoward Whenever I teach this move at clinics I always do it "LIVE" against a defender. Hasn't been stopped yet. You can use it when you're closely guarded if you can create one arms length of space before making the move.
This Is awesome and I already have some of the keys down I just have to learn to crossover first then jab
When he simply jabbed after the crossover my brain got shook out it's shoes tryna process what he just did lol
This move is pretty good, its unorthodox way is deceptive. I think its best use while running down the lane. I love moves like this rather than the normal crossover's which is still good but sometimes you have to be weird and smart not just athletic.
I love this move. For me it's so much better than a crossover. I mostly use it as a hesitation move
i just love how each intro to ever vid is over a minute
honestly, this doesn't seem logical.. I'll have to try it out but won't the defender follow the direction in which the ball is going and not the jab? thinking iverson and rose have worked great thus far...
This very effective move is called the harden step for those who dont know. He uses it all the time
You're looking down at the ball the whole time you do that 2 ball dribbling drill which kind of kills the purpose. The crossover is kind of slow too and doesn't make much sense, the point is to catch them reacting to the ball and not you. So even if they're staring at the ball they won't bite on that little jab with the ball behind you.

This is actually well made with clear points man fck
The Edward Cullen Crossover. :)
nice move, it's basically the same principle as the hesitation but applied laterally
really good move..i was blocked into the "jab first -cross second"..i think nash and westbrook are using something similar
u played in the pros?
ABA
oooooh thanks
Take that how ever you want. lol sure he made it but...it's the ABA
he's one of the best basketball players i've ever seen! you should watch his other vids!
Wow this is something totally new to me! Can't wait to practice it. Looks really good!
I cant take this dude seriusly after that intro lmaooo
this move is sick. practiced it for a little, and it completely wrecked people. works even better for shooters, as it moves people away from your shooting hand and you can step into your shot. nice tip!
This move is legit. Never seen anyone do it before but I'm going to bust it the next time I play.
i do have knowledge of basketball and this video gives out really great tips and moves.
starts at 1:20
I'm the starting point guard for my varsity team in school. I'm only 5'6" and can dunk but i still need to create space or find ways to the hole. i tried this in a game that we had a blow out in and the defender who was one of the top ranked defenders in my state got some broken ankles and i finished with a nice fake shot pass for an easy assist. this move worded in the next game too people don't see it coming the lat jab makes them think you are changing direction very effective!
this is a great video for ppl who only thought of the allen iverson crossovers!
I'm quite doubtful about this... when I guard a dribble move I'm usually focused on the opponent's core. That's the one part they can't fake with so if you're delaying your real drive by putting the jab after the cross, it's actually a really slowly executed move. I could probably anticipate that crossover and get the steal.
hey dude ryan you cam to my class in watauga how much do you charge for private coaching?
woah that helped me alot im used to jab then crossing and it works alot of the times because of my quickness but if i were to cross then jab then drive itll seem as if im that much quicker!!! just subscribed :)
so when u dribble to crossover to the next leg... u fake ur leg and foot that ur dribbling off of at the same time dribble? all together while running? if thatss right ill practise it
This is what they were talking about.
@yangoodson23 Hey why not do both hesitations, before and after the crossover? It does take up more time but it can really throw a defender off.
Dude, you always go right!
D.Rose has mastered that
yup this is definetely a hard move to MASTER. easy to just jab and cross over and would be more effective when you are very athletically gifted with speed and agility (rose) but with the pistol pete crossover it is very DECEPTIVE! even out of shape players can get a move flowing like this if they know it.
this guy has mad handles... but no offense, how can you use the moves from 0:00 to 1:15 in a real game situation?
This video is funny for so many reasons
This is great! More than ever!
Reaalllllllly Nice Drill!
"literally eat air" haha
Yea I Dont think that cross would be effective when im guarding you. And for all you other non ballers saying that you follow the ball???!!! WTF are you talking about....you clearly dont know!!!
Dudes got skills!
Love the break down of this.
not a fan of this technique..maybe a quick studder step before the jab fake would increase the chance of the defender to give you that foot of space that your looking for..say that your sprinting down court in a 3 on 2; 2 on 1 scenario and I'm charging down dribbling with my right, what I've found pretty affective is that by the time I get to about the 3 line I'd studder, jab right HARD, wait for his reaction then cross, and finish either lay-up or pop the 15 footer..
I wanted to WATCH the video, but a crappy overlay asking me to click to go some place else drove me away.
I really like this video, thanks man. I'm trying to improve it during practice so to use it in the game ;)
you have taught me so many things in this move
Dude, I love the this vid. You're good man!
pete used to go from high to a low double pop of the ball. you could hear it. he explains it on red on roundball and his homework basketball.
ck it out. i learned at his camp years ago.
He said he used his skill at the pro level? What pro level?
hellasow b hes talking about Piston Pete 5x NBA All Star 2x All NBA First Team 2x All NBA Second Team, NBA HOF, NBA Top 50 Greatest Player
i want to show you one move... i used at the college and professional level at 1:22 in this video
hellasow b yeah, i'm pretty sure he is a skills trainer at the NBA level... he gets paid to teach basketball... so yeah, getting paid to do something technically makes one a professional.
hellasow b professional doesn't always mean NBA.
hellasow b professional doesn't always mean NBA.
This is basically the bulldog crossover
LOL the intro, oh man oh man
Made an intro longer than all the star wars episodes combined
best cross ever. use it daily
Ryan, you have amazing skills, but it's even more amazing that you still resemble a teenage boy even though you stated you went to college already!! :P
White man's crossover ain't gonna break no ankles breh
This move is money. I can confirm
i like this pretty simple and i can see how it would work
Never thought of doing this, but it seems really useful. Thanks a lot!
