I kind of went on a tangent at around 10:35. Would you be interested in a dedicated video essay discussing my thoughts on why games from 20-25 years ago might have seemed 'uncanny?' Let me know in the comments!
Also, I'm open to suggestions for older game series to test on the Arc A770/OpenSUSE combo. Feel free to drop your recommendations below!

Such a good and in depth video man! Your effort is much appreciated. It would be really cool if you keep with A770 gaming videos on Linux, especially how it's doing right now, because the videos I have watch since the arc launch, the situation of arc on Linux wasn't pretty playable, and now that I see your video, it's really nice to watch the performance and I'm curious about the performance across more games. Intel ARCs perform really well under Vulkan, so the potential of gaming with arc in Linux is great as long as the Linux drivers are good

Arc driver support for Linux is... decent-ish, for gaming. You should use a rolling distro to get the most up to date drivers via Mesa and the kernel updates. The drivers aren't as cutting edge as the Windows drivers, you can't overclock/undervolt, or adjust fan speed, and it doesn't seem like you can run DX12 games (funnily enough), but they are in a good space for gaming otherwise. I'll be working on looking at other games on Arc+Linux, so stay tuned! Also, thanks for watching!

Nice video. There isn't much Intel ARC Linux content on RUclips.

Thanks! I'm working on another such video! I hope I can post it tomorrow.

@@CompellingBytes I am using Intel ARC A770. I tried playing Cyberpunk on Opensuse but I couldn't turn on ray tracing. I wonder if ray tracing doesn't work on linux for intel? I haven't tried it in any other game.

@@kasmbilgin4620 I haven't had the chance to try Cyberpunk or other games that require RT on Arc, tbh. I don't think Arc Raytracing is supported on Linux. It took a while for Nvidia's rtx to get pushed out for Linux (iirc, or was that DLSS?), so hopefully Raytracing and XeSS (which also isn't available on Linux) are on their Linux driver devs' todo list. Maybe these things will show up with the release of Linux Xe drivers.

thx we need more videos like that on intel arc

I can see that you used Mesa 23.1.7 . Can you also tell us the kernel version ? Or it doesn't matter, everything is tied just to the Mesa version ? I still haven't properly learned this stuff. I remember there were some big updates for Intel Arc in kernel 6.2 and after that the YT space covering Arc went completely silent. We're now on 6.6 and your video (and I see you have more) is the only new footage I see, and I am very thankful for that.

Kernel can matter to a degree. My understanding is that the i915 driver, which is what all contemporary (as of 2023) Intel graphics solutions relies on at a low level in the kernel. Mesa is where the custom OpenGL and Vulkan implementations for Intel are located, along with other things, and it's currently where Intel is backporting features they are developing for the new Xe driver that should be ready for release candidate testing soon, so every never version of Mesa brings some degree of newer features, for now.
I was doing some testing with games that did not play nice (no pun intended) with Arc recently, and I tried using a different kernel version on my system, and I believe when I made this video I was using 6.5.1 (I checked and it is 6.5.9-1), but I'll have to go back and second check on the kernel versions I have available on that system.
What can also make a difference is the version of Proton you use, as well.

Awesome video! Was looking for a gpu upgrade for my linux machine and was hesitant on driver support of arc cards. Is it just plug and play like amd cards? Thanks in advance

Driver support is kind of in limbo because things are much more incomplete driver-wise on Linux than Windows. This may be in part because Intel is working on newer "Xe" drivers for their new and future graphics architectures for Linux, but they've been pretty quiet about what they are integrating into it and what they are leaving out. You'll need a distro with rolling updates to get the latest support, and you may know that. Intel and AMD graphics are indeed plug and play on Linux, though.

could you try properly old games like bioshock, Thief, Doom 3 and Wolfenstein. I literally wait for the Battlemage release or next AMD GPU, since I use nVidia 3070 and I will not play along with the driver hell.

I'm working on a video for the Remastered Bioshock games and Infinite, I'll give Doom 3 a try, and I've never heard of Thief. Which Wolfenstein(s) do you have in mind?
