This is my favourite Brahms symphony. How lucky am I to be able to watch it being played by this superb orchestra and conductor. I feel as if I'm there in the concert hall. Coincidentally, I have Dohnanyi's Teldec recordings of the 4 symphonies on CD. I've heard other interpretations, but his are my favourite. Bravo maestro and bravo NDR for such a moving performance. ❤

I must say, I become more and more impressed with (in particular) the NDR and HR radio orchestras the more I hear them over this medium. Germany has managed to keep these (and other sister) orchestras alive and well, a tradition we once had to a more limited extent in the USA but which is now long since lost there. It helps that these radio orchestras here have ready access to top talent and equally top directors, as this Brahms performance definitely shows. They're surely on a par with the "big name" orchestras in Berlin, Vienna, London, New York, LA, SF and elsewhere. Many thanks! JAT

What a delightful performance: a wonderful German orchestra, of long tradition, playing so brilliantly. Also - all credit to the sound engineers, who have produced a CD quality recording... If I am not mistaken, Brahms himself came from the northern part of Germany. Bravo orchestra.

Dohnanyi has the Brahms 2nd in his blood. His view of the piece hasn't changed much, this performance is much like his old TELDEC recording with the Cleveland Orchestra; stilll one of the best.
