  • We've only been in this newly expanded designer and decorator antique mall for a week, and we're selling up a storm! After we fill a few empty spaces to preserve our space's look, we spend most of our time looking through this huge place that's busting at the seams with us fresh new vendors of antique & vintage wares.
    It's a work in progress here! Some dealers have their look together, and what a look it is. Spaces filled with high-end MCM designer furniture, a wall of Blenko glass and art, a row of 1910s sideboards and cases of jewelry including real Chanel, Tiffany and Fendi tell us that this is a serious place for collectors and decorators to buy.
    Other spaces are just now forming, and there's some bargains and buys in the midst of the chaos (is that a dead body on top of that stack of chairs?!). We see how too much furniture makes a fun display when you have high ceilings, find a very old sign from a long-forgotten area store, and poke through piles of signs, tables of Vallerysthal blue Portieux glass and a shelf of vibrant Arabia pitchers.
    How will these wonderful vintage items fit into a collector's look at home? We talk about our own "look" (do we have one, and how'd we get it?), and how I try to group things so people can visualize pieces in harmony, while incorporating cool vintage and antiques into their own style.
    Then we head off for the last big new section, where serious decorators present furniture by Adrian Pearsall and Milo Baughman with fun shapes and motion-filled 1960s design, set amongst rosewood dining sets, rare Robert Maxwell garden pots and a 1940s shoe display that makes you want to do the kick-step!
    This place definitely has "the look," and we'll be back again to see how it develops as the piled-high back room finds its design ethos too.

    This move has turned out to be a great thing for everyone involved, that is wonderful. I kind of like the "grill plates" I seen them in the Willow pattern but I never cared if my food touched, I usually scoop some of it all together anyway to eat, especially the potatoes and vegies. lol Have a great day and safe travels

    I love the contrasting colors, the sign wrapping the corner, but the heavily patterned wallpaper makes it hard to see the objects on the shelves. Maybe a band of that wall covering a bit above eye level with a contrasting solid wall color below and above would work to draw your eye, but not compete with the objects on shelves? Love seeing it all!!!!

    Good evening, George! Loved that bamboo hall stand! That seemed a good price for it, too. I don't think I've ever seen one in bamboo. I much prefer displaying on colour. I'm not fond of the "landlord white". With me being an artist, I understand white as highlight...it goes on top. I'd like to have that Dole pineapple map. That Russian lacquer box was fantastic! Looks like that mall is coming along quite nicely. Lots of interesting items there, and the prices seem really fair. Thanks for the tour!

    • @TheAntiqueNomad
      @TheAntiqueNomad  Год назад +2

      I've seen but one before, similarly priced, much harder to find than just the bookcases! I'm with you about color, unless you have such a colorful collection that white brings it together, it's just too museum-like for me. The Dole map almost got framed for my apartment, but I didn't really have room. Wasn't that a great lacquer box? That whole display was filled with the kind of true antiques that are interesting enough to be worth having for conversation's sake.

    • @CONSTELLATION_PEGASUS
      @CONSTELLATION_PEGASUS Год назад +1

      I'm happy you showed that bamboo hallstand. The Victorian bamboo pieces are something I really like and appreciate. Colour, as a background, "seats" things well, whereas a white background "pushes" things away from it. If museums would use even a grey background, it would accentuate the artwork they have much better. That Dole map was fantastic...if one has space for it. It's going to be a rather tedious...and exhausting...task to place my recent acquisitions, so I well understand having to leave something you'd really like to own. @@TheAntiqueNomad

  • @marilynn76

    You grew up in Kitsap? My mom's side of the family are all from Poulsbo, Suquamish, Bremerton (going further back)! My mom and both of my brothers went to NKHS. Both of my grandparents were born in Seattle, but they were in Kitsap (with my great grandparents) by the 1930s. My mom and her siblings all grew up in Poulsbo! Now I'm wondering if anyone in our families know/knew each other?
    I love miniatures/salesman samples. I have a tiny Toby jug, a tiny earthenware crock, etc.
    The cigarette machine is amazing! LOL
    I have a question about something--I used to hear that anything over 50 years old was an antique, and anything over 25 years old was vintage. Have those rules changed at all? Or were they never even rules in the first place?

    • @TheAntiqueNomad

    Sir George, I don't know where you're going to be on Saturday October 28th from 8am-3pm & Sunday October 29th, 2023 from 9am-3pm but I'd love to extend an invitation to the South West Focal Point Community Center Flea Market @ 301 NW 103rd Avenue in Pembroke Pines, FL. 33026. They do one every 4 months but because of YOU I've been going through my own, my mother's and my sister's life time acquirements. I must admit WE have a ton of items to get rid of. I'm really looking forward to this event and the monetary end result. I'm certain that your schedule is full but I must selfishly admit that your presence would make my day an even bigger success. With that said...please join us if your hectic schedule is permitting 😊. Thanking you in advance either way,
    Kelly...xoxo

    Solid or soft colors better for walls. If the colors are too bright or ‘loud’ my eyes are drawn to the wall… not the items… and sometimes it could make me feel dizzy. Keep it simple…
