@@LurgsHowToGuides I am mate, it's not frozen pipes it doesn't buzz at all when plugged in, been like this a couple of months now i keep researching and researching but nothing :(
If headlight washers work that suggests pump is ok, disconnect pipe at reservoir and then activate the washers and see if water is drawn, if so it could be a leaky pipe between the reservoir and nozzles or they are blocked.
@LurgsHowToGuides cheers, I'm pretty sure it's something electrical though, the pump doesn't activate by the stalk but does on 12v, it's 2 separate pumps on my car for the headlight washers and window washers unfortunately!
Thanks Lurgs, no cup of tea for me (yet). I tried to lookup a Sharan fuse location for washer pumps however found this on a forum: "There is no fuse, it is controlled by the J519 onboard supply control unit." (and all the 30a fuses look fine)

@@LurgsHowToGuides We took the jet angler off and found that water is coming out of the housing of where the door locks to the base of the boot. How do we remove trim to find this either burst or unplugged hose?
In mine, a 2016 Caddy, the frost stopped the squirter but without blowing the fuse. Simply going round the fuse box (the one under the bonnet) and pulling out the fuses and putting them back actually solved the problem. After I'd tested them all with a little DVM and found nothing wrong - I still don't know which one it is/was 😕
What about the rear window washer on hatchbacks (2002 VW GTI)? Front windsheld washer nozzle is fine, but nothing comes out of the rear. After a few tries, I noticed a little fluid coming out of the front windshield nozzles when I was trying to get the rear to spray. Makes me think something toward the rear is blocked, and the pressure forces the fluid back to the front. No idea how to get to rear hoses to check them.
It’s all the same pump that does front and back so bound to be a blockage. Prime suspect will be the actual nozzle so try cleaning with a needle. Good luck
Thanks a lot for this video. My windscreen jets were not working once I started using my golf 4 which was parked for about a month.Checked the fuses, all fine and then just fiddled with the water motor wires and it starts to work again.Maybe the wire plugs were got loose and out of contact. Thanks again
Did as you said but still not working however place a bulb across contacts at pump nothing so earthed each contact at pump and the bulb work, so I have bothsides of the pump wiring live do you know where it receives its ground at.
If the pumps working and the rear screenwash is working then it has to the pipe. I know on my VW T5 the pipe feed to the front washers bends every time you open and close the bonnet and eventually it splits. Check with the bonnet open and see if you can see any water spraying out of a split. Good luck.
@@LurgsHowToGuides And if it drips ? I did what you said and lifted the bonnet and after pressing the lever, it started dripping from the jets but not with much pressure.

Thanks Lurgs, what if the wipers won't come on either. The wipers work for rain, but not with the washer fluid feature. When I pull the little handle forward, nothing happens.
@@LurgsHowToGuides It seams like the handle is broken. When I turn on front washers it doesn't do anything my wipers don't move and it does'n make any noise like it used to be.
I’ve had mine to the garage they’ve checked all my fuses and changed the pump and still not working. I can’t hear anything but both front and rear wipers still working, any ideas what it could be ??
If the garage can’t fix it then not sure. You need to check if there is power at the pump when you activate the washers, sounds like a frayed wire possibly
Hi Lurgs. I have similar issue both wipers front and rear works fine. But washer doesn’t spray water neither front nor rear and I can’t even hear any motor noise. Wipers alone works fine. I already checked all the fuses next to battery compartment and all fuses are fine. Any suggestions welcome. Thanks
Only other options is check for a split hose in the engine Bay Area but unlikely as it's affecting front and rear. You need to check the actual pump, need to locate that then get someone to activate the wiper jets and see if you can hear it engaging, can also use a multimeter. Check the connections are ok and haven't deteriorated. Good luck.
So this may be a dumb question but I tried to get this fixed at a car place and they just said I could figure it out with the fuse thing on my own...anyways do I like need to buy the new fuse or where did he get that from?
@@dylanhennig5763 Have you found the blown fuse then? If you have it should have an Ampage number on it (probably 7 or 10 amp) then get an identical one from any motor spares shop
I managed to find the fuse which was broke, replaced it and it blew again. What could be causing it to blow? It's about -20°c at the moment and my wash tank was pretty much empty. The weather changed from 5°c to -20°c literally overnight so didn't get a chance to fill it with winter wash. There was more tha likely summer wash left in the tank. I have a 2012 polo
No doubt the pipes or water is frozen and by squirting it is then under massive strain and so it blows the fuse. Try topping it up with hot/warm water and screenwash as well. But it could be frozen in the nozzles, best bet is to wash your windscreen with a sponge and then hope the nozzles\pipes defrost a bit. Make sure you replace the fuse with like for like (not a lower or higher amp fuse)
Trouble is my bottle is full at the moment so I can't get anything more in there. I can't imagine the pipes are going to defrost any time soon as the weather will be in the minus for quite some time. My car is even in the garage and it got so cold in there, never had this problem (or such cold weather!) before. Would removing the wheel and arch and using a hairdryer on the bottle help?
No as you might split the pipes. Even if you defrost the pipe the actual nozzles might be frozen. You could try warming the garage slightly with a fan heater but unfortunately if you only had summer screenwash in it may not be enough to help it defrost. If you started it up (with garage open of course) the heat from the engine may help.
I have been driving today, roughly 40 minutes this morning and 40 minutes this afternoon. To begin with I could hear the buzzing of the pump trying to do something but when I got home, it doesn't make that sound anymore. Like I said, checked the fuse and it was blown so replaced it, tried again and it blew again. The bottle is pretty much full with winter wash (up to -30°c) but it just wasn't having it today. There can't have been much summer wash in there as the washer low light was on in my dash. It's very difficult to get my garage warm as it's not insulated and has no heating. I also don't have a heating fan. It's rather frustrating as the roads are very salty at the moment and my windscreen gets filthy very quickly. I find I'm having to open the window at traffic lights and spraying deicer just to get it clean again 😐
Oh dear, not much you can do till it warms up. Maybe keep a spray bottle in your car (like a shower screen spray), with warm water and screenwash in then spray it on windscreen when you stop at lights and put wipers on. It’s a poor design as most screenwash bottles are by the wheel arch so freezing cold this time of year and never gets warm.

@@LurgsHowToGuides thanks, i will need to ask friend to help me testing, i need one hand turning on the pump and me measuring the values. Do you know what is the use of the sensor? may the failure of this be the problem?

Hello mate, I’ve got a 2015 scirocco and the cold weather may have just blown the washer pump fuse, do you have any idea which one it might be? can’t find anything online :(

I have a 2014, 1.6, c20 startline tdi caddy, recently bought from a dealership. One problem is the washers aren't working in mine, I have a warranty but I'd like to fix it myself if it's a small issue to save me the trip to the dealer as its an hours drive. I checked the fuse box and there is no 7.5 fuse in it? I haven't got the manual so I don't know what fuse is what. I got continuity on all of the fuses bar the 3 biggest ones. Can I assume the fuse is 7.5 and I'm somehow missing it? I appreciate any and all feedback, you're videos are very informative, well done! Have subbed, glad I found your channel
It won’t necessarily be a 7.5amp fuse so it’s worth checking all of them just for peace of mind. When you squirt them can you hear the motor whirring trying to pump or is it dead? If it’s not a fuse it could be the pump (assuming it’s got water in the bottle!) in which case take it back to the dealer. Thanks for subbing, appreciate it and hope you get it sorted soon.
@@LurgsHowToGuides Haha, the water level was indeed checked! I'll try get my hands on a fuse layout so I can see for sure. If it's not that I'll notify the dealer. Thanks for the speedy response! Much appreciated mate 👍
Hey Lurgs. Tried some of your tips but no luck yet unfortunately. Nothing comes out of the left nozzle, and a few drops come out of the right nozzle. Took the nozzles off and blew them out with compressed air but this changed nothing. Assuming it isn't pump since the one at the rear window works perfectly fine. Any idea what it could be? I was suspecting damaged pipes but can't see any sign of leakage of wiper fluid..
Hi all, so my washer's did work but stopped overnight, i noticed that just by the left hand side on the bnnet there was liquid leaking, do you guys reckon its the pipes ?
It could be. On my VW T5 the pipe is on the bonnet and every time you open or close it, it then bends the pipe and eventually it splits. Get someone to squirt it whilst you look and see if you can see where it is leaking.
Hi there, I have a Scirocco 2010 the rear wiper and washer works however the front washer pump makes no noise and no wash comes out and the wipers don't work either, however when moving the wipers work but still no screen wash, then when stationary the wipers don't work, please help, could this be fuse or pump? Strange how wipers work when moving
That is very unusual, as far as I am aware nearly all vehicles only have one pump which does both front and rear washers. When you are engaging the front ones get someone to listen under the wheel arch to see if you can hear the pump, then do the same for rear ones. It could be a split hose for the front but if they aren't working when stationary then that is just bizarre. It's always worth checking fuses and making sure they are seated properly. It could be a faulty stalk but that's unlikely. If you figure it out please let me know. Good luck to you.
@@LurgsHowToGuides hi mate, turns out the bonnet sensor is knackered and needs replacing, after several searches online I found a comment where you disconnect the sensor plug running behind the grille in the driver's side above the headlight, hey presto wipers and washers now working so will need to replace the bonnet sensor at some point
My rear camera washer is not working. I’m getting washer fluid on the front and rear windshield. Can someone help me solve this problem? I have a Volkswagen wagon Tiguan 2020
Hey man, so i checked the fuse and it seems to be fine. However, the washer jet sometimes works someties it doesnt on the back and on the front is totally not working anymore. so you thinkg it owuld be the pump ?
The Drawing sensei Get someone to squirt the washer whilst you lay near the washer pump, see if you can hear it working or not. It should make quite a loud whirring noise. If it sounds like it's working it's worth checking the hoses to make sure there is no split. Then you could find the washer bottle and remove the pump to see if there is any blockage or dirt in the bottle making it blocked up.
@@goldenretriever6261 In the summer you only need a little screenwash, no chance of it freezing in the summer. It’s a waste otherwise and saves you some money
I’m having a problem where my pump isn’t kicking on. I can’t find a fuse that’s blown. I replaced the pump. Still nothing. No corrosion on any wires or connectors. Any ideas lol
If you've replaced the Pump and still no joy then it has to be either a blown Fuse (check them all again, internal and the engine fuse ones) or a faulty Stalk switch.
Daniel, i have the same problem. 14 reg VW Caddy. Will only allow me to try a few times, then the pump stops trying. I have to leave mine parked in the sun until it gets to about 6 degrees C . Then it works without a problem. Not sure if its a bad motor or a sencor but its doing it since new. Tip: start using the fluid that doesnt freeze long before the winter comes along.
@@LurgsHowToGuides just replaced the relay for my washer pump and it worked, turned the car off and then back on and then the pump no longer worked. Probably a short somewhere
@@LurgsHowToGuides Its a second hand VW Polo2004 automatic. 57,000 on the clock..genuine. Not sure what I will be doing ...Though its going to rain up here tomorrow, so I might have to take a look. I am wondering if there is a leak as I used it a few days ago...But it is not working now. I cannot drive it anywhere in case of rain...
Obvious thing to check is that you've got fluid in the bottle. Next thing is when it's nice and quiet try to activate the squirter, can you hear the motor whirring or not? Could just be a fuse if you've overloaded it on a frosty day maybe so check your fuses as this could be a nice simple cheap fix. Or the pump electrical connector may have come loose, or the pump may have failed possibly.
@@LurgsHowToGuides I filled the tank with solution about a week ago. 2 litres. I cant see the tank as its below out of sight. It is whirring when I try it. I will put some more solution in tomorrow in the daylight. I do do DIY but have to be careful.
If you can hear it whirring then next step is get someone to help you. Have the bonnet open whilst someone does the squirters and see if you've got a split hose somewhere. If you have a back windscreen wiper try that as that will be a different hose and will prove if the motor is ok.
Another tip for everybody...... If your nozzles are blocked but your pump is working. Fill the reservoir with boiling water from your kettle and try it.
Trying to find out where the fuse is, that's how I ever got here Update:: I have a '14 Tiguan and fixing mine was as easy as disconnecting and reconnecting the battery
Well it depends what car\Van you have, it could be anywhere. If it’s not a fuse it could be the actual motor or the plug into the motor. But check fuses first, it is likely to be a fuse inside not in the engine bay one.
Could just be frozen pipes or the nozzles then, best wait till we thaw out a bit and hopefully it will work again. Need more screenwash concentrate when it’s really cold
Always check the fuse first to make sure that is ok (easiest fix). Else the other way is to use a multimeter on the actual pump, get someone to activate the washers and see if 12v is getting to the wiring on the pump, if it is and the pump isn't working then it's broken. If 12v not getting there then could be a fuse problem or electrics somewhere.
If I have my hood open it works. Like gravity is doing the work. If it’s closed nothing sprays..😭 Guess I’ll have to open my hood every time I want to spray my windshield!😂

I did replace the pump but no luck, i put 12v directly to my old pump and that did work fine. Extremely confusing! Any ideas?
@@MrProjekts Are you in England? Could be a simple issue of water frozen in the pipes/nozzles
Oh, two separate pumps, yikes.

Thanks Lurgs, no cup of tea for me (yet). I tried to lookup a Sharan fuse location for washer pumps however found this on a forum: "There is no fuse, it is controlled by the J519 onboard supply control unit." (and all the 30a fuses look fine)
Strange, maybe it's just a blockage or frozen pipes (if you are in England). Hope you can get it fixed.

Hi I have a face-lift 2008 1.2 polo. Rear spray pump is working as can hear it but no water spraying, can't find a leak either.
Maybe the jet hole is blocked, try a pin in the tiny hole to see if its blocked up. Sometimes they corrode as well and get blocked.
@@LurgsHowToGuides We took the jet angler off and found that water is coming out of the housing of where the door locks to the base of the boot. How do we remove trim to find this either burst or unplugged hose?
Update- hose had come off the inlet so put it back on and fastened it with a big tie wrap
@@robbiemckeegan8317 Nice one. Yeh a nice tight cable tie should do the trick.
In mine, a 2016 Caddy, the frost stopped the squirter but without blowing the fuse.
Simply going round the fuse box (the one under the bonnet) and pulling out the fuses and putting them back actually solved the problem.
After I'd tested them all with a little DVM and found nothing wrong - I still don't know which one it is/was 😕
Glad that I could help out and that it's working again. 😎
Will give this a try. VW Polo 2020. Assuming the 7.5 Fuse is next to the 30 one? There are a few 7.5's
Test them one at a time. Hope you find the issue
Excellent, fixed my mg hs, it was a faulty fuse.
Nice easy fix 😎
Great stuff, nice easy fix which is what you want! Glad I could help. 😎
Did as you said but still not working however place a bulb across contacts at pump nothing so earthed each contact at pump and the bulb work, so I have bothsides of the pump wiring live do you know where it receives its ground at.
No idea I’m afraid, I should imagine it’s all part of the wiring loom and not grounded externally on the pump. Hope you can get it sorted
I can hear the washer pump working but nothing on the front screen. Rear works fine. Doesn’t look like outlets are blocked. Any ideas?
If the pumps working and the rear screenwash is working then it has to the pipe. I know on my VW T5 the pipe feed to the front washers bends every time you open and close the bonnet and eventually it splits. Check with the bonnet open and see if you can see any water spraying out of a split. Good luck.
@@LurgsHowToGuides And if it drips ? I did what you said and lifted the bonnet and after pressing the lever, it started dripping from the jets but not with much pressure.

Hello...the windshield washer isn't working, not hearing the pump working too...i can't find the fuse for the windshield washer
Definitely find the fuse first as that is common. If not sure which fuse just test them all. Good luck
Hi mate, my washer symbol is constantly on, on my dash is there a separate sensor from the pump on the washer reservoir please cheers, ps the reservoir is not empty.
There is a sensor yes it will be very low down on the actual bottle, they are usually under the wheel arch somewhere
Do you know how to solve the rear windshields no water spray out? I check the pump no problem.
Rear will be the same water reservoir and pump so probably a blocked jet or a split hose. Good luck

Well you need to find the fuse or just check all the fuses then replace it like for like
@@LurgsHowToGuides what do I replace it with though, do I buy the “new” fuse at an auto shop or something?
