How to make a Cabinet out of Polycarbonate

- This DIY Translucent Cabinet is made out of Polycarbonate and ¾ inch thick Oak. I am really into ultra modern furniture and mixing space age materials with natural wood right now. The triple wall opal polycarbonate that I used cut easily with a circular saw and a finish blade. In fact I only used basic hand held power tools to make this 6-foot 5-inch cabinet. Did anyone else complained that they got mysteriously unsubscripted from your channel? I am not active on YT as I used to be, but other day I noticed in SUGGESTED VIDEOS video from you (outdoor sofa) and I was wondering how I missed it just to realize that I am not subscribed? Really cool and unique project! I think it's time you made a greenhouse to go with your container house build. A thin, wide cabinet style greenhouse would be great for growing starters, as you can fit it against an outside wall and open it quickly to water your plants, and you don't need to reach very far into it.

Awesome looking project. 25 years ago I worked for the main factory that got this product from Egypt. It came in containers in sheets four and six feet wide and 36 feet long. In several thicknesses. It was impressive then!!

Beautiful cabinet. This is some wonderful siding material. Not sure about shelving. But some matching wooden shelves will solve any sagging problems that they have.
Minus the cost, I really like the possibilities of using this in some RV remodeling that I have been kicking around for a while.

Hello friend, this is undoubtedly the best project you have done, very elegant, creative and the mixture of a traditional material like wood with a modern material like polycarbonate is wow !.
A grip you could let the wooden rod that you used as the axis of the hinges protrude a little bit up and a little bit below that would give the cabinet an aspect of pieces assembled by hand that could be very nice, only I find it very doubtful that You have used polycarbonate as shelves in the interor, I think that this material does not have enough resistance. I congratulate you and I thank you for sharing your work, I will continue to enjoy it. Greetings from Uruguay.
I love the idea of using the jig saw to cut the half lap joints! Out of curiosity how much weight can each of the shelves hold?

Great project. Would love to see an "inside out" version of this where all the wood is hidden as I my not be able to source such beautiful wood, it would also be cleaner as the poly would be smooth on the outside.

Super cool design! I like the fact that you could swap out the polycarbonate for almost any other material and totally customise this build. Simplistic, effective, and looks great! I've looked at these polycarb sheets before and had some of my own ideas bouncing about for possible future projects, but this one was well thought out!

That's fantastic Ben. But what I really want to see is polycarbonate used for something structural. A chair, a table. something functional where it's not just a replacement for paneling. And I bet these things can do wonders with LED lights, since they are translucent. Awesome video.
I'm glad you posted this! I'm considering using polycarbonate for my fence. I'm on a corner lot, so I want the side closest to the street to have translucent panels. Do you think this would be a good material for a shoji-style fence?

I bet these would look pretty sweet with some LED lighting either behind or along the edges of the poly to allow light to flow into the holes. :) Sweet build Ben!

This is a great idea. I love the fact that the Polycarbonate is light, which allows for a more flexible door design. I think you should try making a murphy bed for your next project. The designs online are mostly heavy and are best used with expensive piston bed kits. Is there a way to make a much lighter frame, while not compromising on strength?

polycarbonate in your area is good and thick while in my country it's too thin like 3/16 and sells to pricey
