Congrats man. I remember when I got my blue belt. It was mostly expected but still a great feeling. Keep up the great work and having fun first and foremost.
One concept I feel is most important is combinations both for offense and defense. If you're attempting a guard pass, submission, or escape then expect the first 2 maybe 3 attempts to fail. But if you have the muscle memory of 3-5 techniques in those positions and can put them together as one big movement then your chances of success are much better.
As a purple belt I already have a game set for most things so the way I'm trying to improve is working on concepts in the areas I'm not good at, like my standing game and when getting smashed passed, in the end of the day you have to training a little bit of what you don't like so that if it happens its not a end game for you. Great video!
im currently a 1 stripe white belt with a 1.5 years of training (we dont have promotions very often) , and i think i am a near blue belt cuz i can handle blue belts at my weight
3:12 That's a beautiful ass Uchimata my guy, nothing spazzy here lol. Also, learning how to breakfall can probably be thrown in there for whitebelts to help protect themselves from full force impact when a Judo guy decides to pull some shit like that on you.
White belt here not the best but tips for other white too don’t be afraid to try new things and mess up and I really relate to a lot of blue belt tips I’m close to my promotion and my gym has always done leg locks since my first day literally won’t forget got heelhooked day 1
Im a white belt and i hit a super cool move today from my opponents knee elbowount escape they trapped one of my legs i hit a berimbolo to truck then hit the calf slicer ive mever practiced truck or calf slicer had one day where we learned the berimbolo so this was a nice little combo
You’re in more danger of breaking your neck and getting paralyzed on the drive to the gym. Don’t let the fear discourage, though it is valid, just be smart.
turf toe, golfers elbow, you name it... a bunch of injuries as white belt, rolling with spazzy whites.. wished you were able to upload this video a bit earlier 😅
I am considering joint a bjj school. I have a question. How long would one have to study jujitsu to protect oneself? I realize it varies. How do you know how to choose a school that won’t use your and try to hurt you ? Thanks
44 yr old, 5’5”, 170lb no-gi mid level purple here. I highly recommend seeing if you can start volunteering your time in an instructor role at high level blue to purple belt. I started working with the kids in the kids class and some teenagers and adults helping out at open mats. This change the way I trained, and helped me be way more deliberate at things I was unfamiliar with. Kids ask question most adults may be embarrassed to ask or just over overlooked. It forces one to look at BJJ in a very different way. Plus roll with a good 9 yr old with thin, tiny arms. It sucks if they catch a rear naked, and guess what you aren’t allowed to crush them or over power them. You have to use your techniques very methodically. Also try to arm bar a 9 yr old. You learn really quickly if your arm bar is trash. It will help you find your failure points.
Lol I'm 43yr old, 5'5 195lbs, lean, bb bjj wrestler, judo, muay thai, judo, mma etc. Training forever basically. Teaching, without a doubt, will get you so much better, if you can teach, and once you're at a certain skill level. Don't wanna start to early and teach bad habits and really need to understand the how's and why everything works. Competing helps improve alot also, if you're into that.
Being a purple belt a useful tool is to have more than one game, understand when you need to flow and when you need pressure why work hard when your opponent understands and knows how to shut down pressure passing style but can't stop flowing or explosive style game
Honestly as a blue belt the leg lock tip is the reason i primarily do Gi as opposed to NoGi, it feels gimicky to me and like people put all their chips onto that one trick (call back to your earlier tip again) and their game suffers because they’re so focused on their opponents legs
i just got my blue belt yesterday so this is huge lol
Congrats man. I remember when I got my blue belt. It was mostly expected but still a great feeling. Keep up the great work and having fun first and foremost.
Perfect timing lol, congrats!
Congrats!
Let’s see if I get my by the end of the month lol
Me too!
To have fun, this is the most important 😉 To succeed in BJJ you don't need to be the most talented or gifted, but to do it as long as possible)
You know I be waiting for you RUclips videos I really relate to a lot of your content
you should make a takedown tierlist

That was actually golden advice. Thanks a lot mate!
I’m 39 and I had my first roll with a 10 yr old today and he taught me so much! I had a blast.

Great tips man, somehow I've been a white belt for 1.5y and still didn't figure these out.
