    security helped me through college. I got paid 15 dollars an hour for sitting in an office. I did my homework and watched a lot of RUclips. Although time to time there were incident calls and I had to make reports, overall I had a blast. Sometimes thought it's a mental game.

    I am a security guard. In fact I just posted a day in the life video. I enjoy my job! It is mentally exhausting, boring sometimes, and you have to always be vigilant. I think it is a wonderful step forward, if you are considering law enforcement. I know people who have made this a full time career and they've enjoyed it, but will tell you it is very dangerous, so always be careful.

      @Steph C I have been a Security Guard for 14 years . I have worked Multiple Jobs over the years anything from helping the Police Department going around as a Ticket Auditor you check the parking meters , make sure nobody is taken up more than one parking space , they have there tickets for the parking space if you work the State Fair. Some job sights are Los Prevention under cover Security Work you walk around the store like a shopper makeing sure people aren't stealing anything . I have also worked in Hotels & Bars, Loading Docks inside of Warehouses helping load 18 Wheelers , worked the lobby at the desk off an Office Building . Some job sights can have you set up at the Metal Detectors checking bags, line directing people an other sight could have you sitting in a Guard Shack checking ID's as vehicles come through the gate . Another sight can have you roveing checking for locked doors and chemical spills safety hazards. I've also worked Control monitoring the surveillance cameras, security systems , radio and answering employee call offs . Patrol Officer is usally Level 3 Security Officer Armed Commission but not always . You drive around checking up on the other guards from post to post . Checking the parking lot makeing sure nobody is breaking into vehicle's. Most of the work is very similar to being a Police Officer if you're prior military or a Security Officer you automatically get 10 points on your Law Enforcement test before you even sit down and take it . Level 3 Security Armed Commission is like going through the Police Academy depending on how much time and money you want to fork out where you'll be instructed by the Department Of Public Safety some locations have a gym or Martal Arts where you pay a small fee . You can also buy from a Police Supplier where nobody other than Security & Law Enforcement is allowed to shop at . Level 4 is a Body Guard. Security is a great occupation depending on how much time , effort and money you want to put into your career.

    • @juggernaught79
      @juggernaught79 3 года назад

      I wouldn’t suggest working for hospitals as a career. The risk doesn’t match the pay or even come close. Depending on where your hospital is you’ll be in fights nearly every night in the ER. A lot times wrestling with people that should be In jail. You’ll learn that no combination of words will calm someone bent on drugs. Most hospital Security departments are understaffed, unarmed and unarmored. You’ll be kicked, punched, spit on, puked on, sh*t on, pissed on, threatened, shot at, stalked all while being treated like dirt by the public, staff and especially the administration. A small few will ever appreciate what you do and the rest will always think you’re Paul Blart even if you pulled a meth-head off of them, took a punch for them or wrestled a blade or sharp object from some crazed nut(remember no taser no armor). Clinical staff will try to use you as a tool of revenge to get back at a rude or ornery patient/visiter. The staff and administrators don’t care if you get fired. Be smart and use common sense. Better to quit than put yourself in a situation where YOU could go to jail. Administration sees that you exist to mitigate risk and to save money on proper resources. You are acceptable turn-around. You are their Fall-Guy.
      No-body will believe the stories you bring home. You’ll get to where you won’t even talk about it. I don’t care how Clint Eastwood you think you f**king are it will eventually take a toll on you. So if you go hospital security please only do it long enough to see if you want to take it further(law enforcement). Don’t wait too long for the system to break your spirit.
      Good take-aways... You’ll learn a lot about yourself. You’ll learn how to talk to people in ways you thought you never could. It’s rewarding to be able to de-escalate situations that would normally go south. Learning that skill will help you immensely as a LEO. You’ll learn if you want to go LEO or you’ll learn to appreciate that sales job you had lol! If you’re good at hospital security then you’ll excel as law enforcement and don’t wait too long to make the move.

    Good stepping stone. If you make a career out of it, join an in-house team, don’t waste away in a contract company. If you live where they allow you to work for multiple companies, then do a contract company and in-house. This way if it goes to a private company, there’s a possibility that you keep whatever seniority you have when a contract change occurs.

    Working the job, is the easy part, it’s the accredited training companies’ clients promises and politics that destroy the industry.
    Training - certifying people that are not competent or ready yet.
    Companies - disorganised, unprofessional, delayed pay, neglecting staff, etc.
    Clients - controlling, demanding, rude, manipulating, mistreating staff, unrealistic expectations, etc.
    Promises - companies and individuals always making excuses and false promises no concern for the safety of the staff only that the client is happy and paying them regardless of the detriment to the staff.
    Politics - the politics above are only the tip of the iceberg these is so much more corruption dishonesty and unprofessionalism in the industry.
    but the most unfair gripe I have above all these things mentioned, is security personnel do not get any breaks on many sites even though it is a legal right.

    The money isnt that bad. Im on $32hr monday to friday plus weekend penalty rates (time and a half, double time). But being armed is a big pointer for me.. or at least having you baton amd cuffs. I work in australia as a FIFO security officer and i deal with pretty intense shifts. 1800hrs to 0600hrs. 4wks on 4 off. Every night we are stoned by large groups of people aged fom 13yrs to 30yrs of age. We often also deal with people using knives, machetes, steel bats/bars etc etc including tazors. Its not for the faint hearted but if you work well as a team and have the balls the experience itself pays off. You wont meet many security guards in the city that have worked a security job like this in Australia. Im writting this from work at this very moment. Its 4:33am. Im on duty in a school inside a compound and im currently watching a large number of aboriginal people trying to kill each other on the street outside 🤨 most likely caused by illigal alchol. One of many places i work. Others include dock security for ships on the coast while they unload there cargo. Theres many security jobs out there and they can all be rewarding, even the high risk ones. Its all experience🤙🏽

The reason for that is they don't have enough contracts there ate the fuck up a good company always pays more and takes care of there employees. You treat us like that we love you we're happy the employer and the client's are satisfied. You give me some bullshit wage like $8.50 an hour than I'm having to pull at least 2 doubles per week 16 hours and you want to give me some lame ass excuse why your dumbass guard can't show up to relieve me he's a no call no show i quite I'm walking off the job. In most areas of the world to be a security guard one must be a high school drop out. These jobs are for people that refuse to learn and can't make a rational decision. If you can read or write this may not be the job for you.

      I'd argue; for someone young like me, it's a great job to really blossom and grow my professional life and transition into what I hope to get into (law enforcement). It's a great way to learn about how to deal with people and certain situations that may arise and gather some connections for professional growth and development. Not to mention, it helped me a lot through college with a decent wage and an easygoing schedule to work days I had off. It's actually also a great job to write reports when needed to further improve on writing (which is crucial for law enforcement officers) and on rare occasions, one of those reports might need to go to court, you may never know.
      Often, people think security guards are uneducated, but I myself work security, and I've went to school for not only a diploma program, but an advanced program as well. There are more security jobs too within the industry with top notch pay. A lot of the security guards I worked with were either retired and still looking for more work or young and going to school for career advancement, just like me.
