My parents sang me her songs as lullabies when I was a kid. Part of the reason they named me Anya was so my nickname could be Ani as well. One of my all time favorite artists
I've been with Ani's music since her start when I was a college student in Rochester NY back in the early '90s. She's one of the most poignant and powerful singer/songwriters in America. Growing older with her work has been one of the great gifts of my life.
@@fakenoose8978 she's an activist with a strong and distinct point of view. You might disagree with her, you might be able to point out where her facts are off (she's a singer not a historian or journalist), but calling her a moron just says more about you than about her.
Not only in America. I've been listening to her for many years from France. She's a phenomenon in almost every way, kind of my own Joan Baez, a true guidance in my musical life and a permanent "good-thinking" inspiration.
Ani came to Alfred University way back in 1987, promoting her first CD in Upstate New York. I bought one as she was selling it herself on a makeshift desk. She was incredible back then as she is now.
It's simply wonderus how a song like swan dive can bring me back to that awkward, 16 year old kid desperate for the knowledge and intensity of life ani difranco was expressing in her music. After all these years I've yet to fully grasp the mix of hope and sadness, yearning and triumph she's able to make us feel. Pure artistry in its highest form.
I am one of the many lucky people who grew up with that unique sound. The early to mid-90's were such a great time for women in music. Oh what I would give to be back in 1995, if only for a day.
I feel like I skirted some of it but didn't have anyone to share it with or make real inroads into it all with. I was a big Tori fan by the early 2000s, had Ani's first album, early PJ Harvey stuff, but I feel like I was missing context to embed it in. If you have recommendations (or anyone who reads this, I know I'm years late!) I'd love some.
Whenever people comment on Ani’s guitars or Ani’s fingers, they think they’re being clever. But all of us die hards just roll our eyes and praise Ani for being so generous with her explanations.
Just as amazing as ever from the first time I heard Little Plastic Castles 16years ago till now .. that voice takes me back to some of the best memories of my life
Kudos to the guy crouching behind the amp for the ENTIRE performance. People often thank those "behind the scenes who make it all happen", but he took it to a whole other level! lol
.I will always love her! I have been a fan for 25 years. we saw her at Station Square....when there was a venue there. I have seen her, like, eight times.when she threw towels out to us, because there were about 50 that stayed...through a storm,,,it was magic!
I like to say that music rarely makes me tear up but yeah this one got me pretty emotional. They just flowed so well together and she is a master of her art
I agree. I think this is my fave version of Swan Dive I've seen so far. I hadn't thought of it as a happy song before!! I love it... and I think it's clear she's found Brilliance 😁💜🤟🏼👊🏼🖖🏼

I've seen Ani live probably more than any other artist , well her and the Pogues, and The Cure, always amazing, one of the true greats of my or any generation.

Well, this is my cue to add that Ian Neville is absolutely brilliant back there. He's doing fills perfectly while laying down a killer rhythm that's true to Ani's very distinctive style. I commented above that I'm going to be seeking out more of his work.

AM SO HAPPY TO SEE ANI DIFRANCO ASK HER GUESTS TO PLAY ON NPR TOGETHER. WHAT A GREAT MIX OF TALENT. THANK YOU ALL.
I remember the first time I heard Ani, I stole one of my sister's CDs because I didn't have any of my own to play on my discman on the way to South Dakota and I can't thank her enough for that first reveling, and all it's reckoning. It's my favorite wonder, saw her in 2012 and I almost cancelled actually going due to suffering from chronic anxiety but went anyways. She walked on stage and I felt my whole entirety awake in gratitude and I moved my entire body intuitively perfectly to join her
It is so odd to see all the vitriol and trolling in the comments here. I listened to an interview on Terry Gross's show by a British woman (whose name escapes me), who said...Do you believe that a woman should be able to inherit property? Own property independent of a spouse? Drive a car? Vote? Get equal pay for equal work? Pursue an education and profession according to her preferences and abilities? Congratulations, you are a feminist!
Sadly, that's not a feminist, any more. Maybe during Ani's heyday, but now, if that's all you believe, you're a rightwing backwards troll. The regressive left and 4th wave feminism has taken over a true liberalism I once so fervently believed in and fought for. Sad.
Legend. Ani if you see these words, know that when I saw that you were on Tiny Desk this morning I had a visceral twinge of excitement. I watch RUclips every day and this reaction is unprecedented for me. Never stop. Never change. What another posting here called preachy, I call a plate full genuine caring with three extra helpings of "willing to do something about it." I don't always agree with your views but I do believe that if we were all willing to put our necks out and make a stand for the betterment of others as you do, this world will be a better place. I wonder if your greatest legacy will ironically not be your music but your courageous example of "human." Thank you Ani
Swan Dive was always one of my favorite Ani DiFranco songs. Other favorites are Subdivision, Fire Door, What How When Where Why Who, Rush Hour, Sunday Morning...
In one of these songs Ani chose to play, she certainly hit the spot with me as I like it when she said "It was up to her at an early age to get out and kick some ass"...yes, I like her dithering in information.
I came waltzing into this video with a swagger and a confidence where i was like ooo and Ani tiny desk! I was thinking Grey maybe firedoor (Living in clip one of my all time fav albums) and when I saw the songs I was like... hmm I don't know these songs. So I sat quietly in the back and reacquainted myself with these 3 songs. I prefer her live as I always love hearing her commentary. Turns out I know Swan Dive yay for me happy dance awesome concert
Love you hair Ani, but mine is better. Kidding. Love you! Listening to your music for over 20 years! Thank you for all your hard work and filling me with musical awesomeness.
Ani, your fantastic. Wonderful, talented group by your side. Finally, I have come to really appreciate your amazing talent abd inspiring messages in your songs. thank you!!!!
Ani in New York shows how well she keeps an audience happy, her guitar playing excels, the lyrics improve, and she stays the course with pushing causes against the man, Patriarchy, of course while your album/cd booming bass will not be sold with the car. NPR, and those gals loved her here. Watch out for those tampons Ani. Hope you're well. laters
My parents sang me her songs as lullabies when I was a kid. Part of the reason they named me Anya was so my nickname could be Ani as well. One of my all time favorite artists

Ani Difranco is an institution. One day I hope we realise her legacy.

She spans multiple generations already!!!! I have no doubts she will be remembered.
Yes and no.. thank god she’s never been a hypergamist..

I don't always agree with your views but I do believe that if we were all willing to put our necks out and make a stand for the betterment of others as you do, this world will be a better place. I wonder if your greatest legacy will ironically not be your music but your courageous example of "human." Thank you Ani
Ani di franco, une des plus grande artiste Auteur, compositrice et interprète + indépendant ...Bravo à elle (salam du maroc)
music has no age, age doesn't change the facts: if you are passionate, pursue!
Thank you for your inspirational comment! I APPRECIATE IT!!!!
Thank you! Appreciate your words
OMG! This Ani DiFranco set was so awesome!!! I have been listening to her since I was 14 yrs old. You are still rocking!!! :D
I love her songs, she is so awesome. Just noticed the guy behind the Amp.
Talk about my two favorite things!!! Ani AND npr. Wow!!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANI!
I need a woman like her in my life shes dope
Swan Dive is amazing!
Hope you're well. laters
