I find it so hilarious the range of movies that come from Stephen King novels. 2 or 3 movies from his books are some of the best movies that have ever been made in film history. The shawshank redemption, the green mile, Stand by me, the Shining. They are all so phenomenal it makes you wonder how on Earth somebody could ever come up with such a good story. John Coffey was an empath, a healing Heyoke. He knew Paul was in pain when they first shook hands and looked into his eyes for the first time. He referred to the ugliness and hatred in the world like glass in his brain, and he just was ready to leave. Michael Clark Duncan was such a fine actor and so very missed. You are such a tender man, your review touched my heart.
Coffey wanting it to end makes all the more sense because in the book there are several portions contained within that hint to John having already been alive for 100s of years. 100s of years of feeling the pain of the world, taken from his homeland to be enslaved and living through all of that.
I need to reread the book again, then. I remember hints that his origins are mysterious, that he just sort of appeared out of nowhere (like an angel might); but nothing about his being around for that long...
This isn't more than a movie; this is an example of pinnacle filmmaking. This is what beautiful story telling, filmography, directing, acting, writing and everything else can come together to create. The story breaks my heart because he was innocent and had nothing to do with their murders.

James Cromwell, the guy who played Hal, was actually taller that Duncan. Duncan was 1.96 meters and Cromwell is 2.01 meters. Still they made him look so huge even compared to Cromwell
Since you reacted to Forrest Gump last week, did you notice that the scene where he visits Coffey's lawyer was a reunion of Forrest (Hanks) and Lt. Dan (Sinise)?
4:17 Don't misunderstand this moment, young man. This moment you watched wasn't slavery; it's punishment. There was a form of punishment that prisons had during the time known as "chain gangs." Convicts were put to work digging ditches and plowing fields as a form of manual labor.
I was coming here to comment the same but reading through the comments to check if anyone else had said it first and I couldn't have put it better myself mine would have been a lot vaguer lol
I'm gonna have to disagree and disagree based on a few things. Forced labor is slavery for one. And for two if you are based in the US the constitution views it as sush as well if it didn't it wouldn't of been the loop hole written in the amendment that abolished slavery.
So.... still slavery, then, eh?! It is still happening even today, when they make prisoners clean ditches or work in the prison woodshop or do hospital laundry and pay them 38 cents an hour for commissary money. Legalized slavery.
John Coffey, was such a beautiful and tragic character. Someone that was misunderstood, but had a gift that he used to help people. But because people were fearful , bigoted, and just downright judgemental is why all this happened. This movie is so powerful even now.
The beautiful soundtrack in this movie is composed by the brilliant Thomas Newman, my absolute favourite. His music always has a nostalgic otherworldly sound and I can't get enough of it.
This is one of those films that once you've seen it you can never ever forget it. I still cry sometimes even watching reaction videos to it. The film touches you deeply. It is a story by Stephen King
I've watch a lot of reaction videos over the years but I have to hand it you. This was by far the best REACTION I have ever watched! I will now subscribe, and thank you from Florida USA! Peace and Cheers Mate!
I love your honest reaction!!! This movie is ageless!! The content is sadly still relevant!!! Always look forward to your reactions!!! Stay safe sweetheart!
Heartwarming fact: Sam Rockwell the actor who played Wild Bill is actually a really nice guy & the girls who played his characters victims actually had trouble being terrified of him
Dang it Dillion , I cried at this movie, and I cried again at the reaction. Being a guy, its not often, but Michael Clark Duncan and Tom Hanks , they can spill it out, and we cannot help the way we take it in. I hope you watched this again with the missus
The only time I've seen this movie is reactors and that's only been three so far and it touches my heart so many times I'm literally tearing up because it's just wow and to learn that the man who played John Coffey passed away makes it just as much more tragic . Both wild Bill and Percy totally deserved every single thing that they got. Everyone in that movie played so magnificently that I sometimes forget character from the actor because it's so impeccable. I started getting really into movie reactors because it's like watching it with the best friend where you can share reactions of the sad parts so angry parts good parts phenomenal reaction truly. They have a handful of people that I love watching movies with and you're one of the top five my friend 100% . I'm sure you get it all the time but wow
Yup I’ve only seen this movie like once or twice but ever since then I’ve only seen it through reactors and it’s a great experience seeing them react to the movie for the first time.
Before I watch this, I'm gonna wager that Percy is the first person Dillon calls a wanker/tosser/bastard. Well, tosspot is pretty close. I'm calling that a win.
From a Texan, it brings me joy to see one such as yourself moved by the deeper meanings in such creative works my heart is right there with you brother. If you enjoyed this movie as well as the Shawshank Redemption, you can thank the creative genius of Stephen King, for he wrote them both. However this doesn't take anything away from the creative expression of his genius by the movie makers involved.
I cried so much that I had to wait a few minutes before leaving the theater. So many people can't believe it's a Stephen King book. As a child of the 80's I'd recommend the Karate Kid trilogy.
I watched this once when I was little, like 6 or 7, and all I could remember was the scene of him outside at 15:20 and the mouse getting stepped on and it traumatized me skskks I had no idea what was going on, I hated it lmao
Tom Hanks and Gary Sinise made another film together, Forest Gump, which is another movie you should watch. BTW, John Coffey died ... yes innocent, but tired ... and he wanted to be relieved of his powers. Actor who played John Coffey was Michael Clarke Duncan and he has since passed away. What an actor. Percy (played by Doug Hutchinson) was a great actor in this movie as he raised so much emotion from the viewer. Must take great acting to be hated so much.
What an amazing streak of movies you're putting out!! Everyday I see an upload and it's a movie I've been waiting for you to watch. Castaway please for future Tom Hanks movie :)
Can you react to Watership Down (1978) please, it’s so worth a watch and it’s an amazing story to follow from the beginning to the end of the film. Love the Tom Hanks Trilogy, Saving Private Ryan, The Green Mile & Forest Gump are the Pinnacle of what film making is.
I think you might be a bit confused at the beginning? This movie takes place in 1935, so those weren't slaves. Those were just prisoners doing labor. Slavery was abolished in the US in 1865, which was 70 years before this took place.
I believe John was very old. Alive during the slave days and that's where some of his scars came from. That also explains why there is no record of him. Just a theory, but I feel that anyway.
You are , by far, my favorite movie reactor. I knew when I saw you were reacting to this movie it was gonna be an epic reaction. You did not disappoint. I've watched dozens of movie reactions and thus is hands down, my favorite. May wanna try a few older movies. There are some great ones...cool hand luke....one flew over the cuckois nest and the postman always rings twice are a few if my favorites. Thanks for making my day.
Michael Clarke Duncan was the actor who played John Coffey. He was the rookie phenom of this ensemble-- this being his, I think, 2nd movie ever? He was less experienced than the others. They got him an acting coach who enabled him to tap into whatever it was inside of him that WAS the character. ...and... ...He passed away in 2012.
I enjoyed watching your reactions, But your comments at the end about people with hate touched me the most tyvm to know their are people around the world like you with a heart
Beyond the mystical aspects of John Coffey's abilities, there was so much good in this movie to make any "invested" viewer enlightened about life and death. Honor, respect, belief, succor, helping fellow humans -- all beneficial to living a good life for one's self and for others.
I just loved the movie the first time and watch it over and over again. I love the acting, the storyline, how the prisoner Waters have pity for John Coffey and some of the others. It‘s just amazing!
Here's some tidbit of info: 1) Michael Clarke Duncan paid tribute to Tom Hanks at a celebration of Tom and saying that Tom was the one who helped/guided him how to do this character. ruclips.net/video/47grTxhtN8o/видео.html 2) Gary Sinise (the man sitting on the porch of the house talking about John Coffey) was the second movie that Gary did with Tom. The first one was Forest Gump, the second one was this one and the third was Apollo 13. In the scene where Lt Dan shows his new legs (titanium same as the shuttle), gives a hint of Apollo 13. Gary was so recognized after the movie Forest Gump, that people started seeing him in public and saying Hi Lt Dan ... so Gary started a band called the Lt Dan Band, and goes around to entertain the Veterans and is heavily involved with the Veterans and military as he has many in his immediate family (and his wife's family) that went to war and knows about PTSD, etc. Listen to his story here. ruclips.net/video/3bbTOjBi7nA/видео.html Also, of course Gary Sinise would be at the same function as Michael and took to the stage to do a tribute to Hanks. ruclips.net/video/rBhL2OztgFY/видео.html BTW, here is a video of Tom Hanks surprising Gary Sinise, as Forest Gump when the Lt Dan Band is doing a live concert. ruclips.net/video/-ac2SfUUGZU/видео.html 3) Some may not be too religious, but if you notice, John Coffey's initials are JC ... coincidence? 4) When Belinda asks where did John get his scars, he doesn't remember, but some have said that since there was no record of him before the girls' incident, that he may have gotten his scars from the days of slavery. 5) The movie where Paul loses it at the beginning and again, near the end when John is watching it, is the classic movie Top Hat, with Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers dancing to the song Cheek-to-Cheek. 6) The reason why John wanted to go was because 1) there was no proof of what Wild Billy had done and he was caught with the two dead girls, so in order to take away the pain from the parents, and give them closure, he tried to give it to them, 2) also, he was 'dog tired'.
My top three movies have always been (in no particular order) Green Mile, Shawshank and Forrest Gump. I’d love to see you do Forrest Gump - most people completely misunderstand Jenny, and I have this theory you will actually understand her character. Forrest Gump and Shawshank were up for the same Oscar, and people fight about which one deserved it till this day! Followed your channel in my insomnia, loved your react vids, cheers mate!
As to the Christian Meanings Behind This, you mentioned: I'm pretty confident that was included as a mark of authenticity of the times, as was the racial prejudices displayed by the characters. Having read a lot of King's work, i'm pretty sure he often likes to include such things to show their absurdity to rationality. I got the impression that Mr. Coffey's abilities were meant to be entirely mysterious, and unexplainable by anything known to mankind.
That movie is a real Chef d'Oeuvre, actors were very great in everything they did. I watch it at least (and yes I still have tears) once a year to remember that people being are ugly to each other, and that we need to be better. John Coffey - Jesus Christ, the sad part is... someone that would do something like that (miracles) today would probably be killed. If a mouse can live that long... just think a bit how long John Coffey was living... he had some scars on him from being a slave. Which would mean that he was alive before 1865 (13th amendment abolishing slavery in the US). The movie with JC story was in 1935... JC clearly doesn't look 70 years old.
My first movie that made me cried, and I was 12. A bit young to watch this movie. Also Sam Rockwell as Wild Bill, one of my favorite performances of his. Also Sam Rockwell a VERY underrated actor.
@@lynnhathaway3755 I waited to read the book because I like to have the mental picture of the characters. I’ve seen it so many times and I cry anyway. Michael Clarke Duncan WAS John Coffey! 🥲
There are certain movies that need watched more than once and this is one off them, everyone played their part well in the film, unfortunately it didn't get the recognition it deserved.
This story is a fiery success for several reasons. Sometimes everything just comes together. The soundtrack, Direction, costumes, script, and acting come together in masterful harmony. I think the casting director knocked it out of the park. In my opinion, there were stand-out acting performances in the roles of Billy the Kid, Percy, Jon Coffey, Eduard Delacroix, The Trustee, Dean Stanton, the girls' Father, the Warden, woman witnessing the execution, and Coffey's lawyer. Perhaps the best acted film ever and when combined with Stephen King''s storytelling ......Masterpiece.

great reaction man! You definitely caught onto Percy quick; guess we all have seen their type unfortunately. He got away with his crap because to have ANY job, much less a secure one with decent pay at that time was a rarity. To lose it would put them into Immediate serious danger of a quick spiral down, losing everything they had worked for. It was a terrible time. Btw: The era was 1935 during our Great Depression; so though they were at a hard labor Prison, and the men working were actually prisoners, not slaves.
Most movies are made just to make a profit. some movies are made by a creative person with a new concept. Then there are some movies which are just all-around well-refined masterpieces. This is one of those. BTW, just want to point out something a lot of people miss. John Coffey was an implied angel (agent of good/god). Why was he afraid of darkness but nothing else? He was a creature of light, and of course a creature of light would fear darkness if nothing else. Purity vs Taint, light vs dark Loved your reaction, bud.

Fun fact: They built a small elevated runway for Michael Clark Duncan to walk on so he'd seem so much taller than he already was. Miss that big man
Yes because he was just as big as David Morse (Brutus). And John Coffey had to be exceptionally huge.
James Cromwell, the guy who played Hal, was actually taller that Duncan. Duncan was 1.96 meters and Cromwell is 2.01 meters. Still they made him look so huge even compared to Cromwell
I was wondering if he was walking on something attached to his feet or something XD
Since you reacted to Forrest Gump last week, did you notice that the scene where he visits Coffey's lawyer was a reunion of Forrest (Hanks) and Lt. Dan (Sinise)?
Good observation

Don't misunderstand this moment, young man.
It's still slavery. Just because the people involved were accused of something doesn't change the nature of forced labor.
One of my favorites of all time, not many movies more powerful
John Coffey, was such a beautiful and tragic character. Someone that was misunderstood, but had a gift that he used to help people.
But because people were fearful , bigoted, and just downright judgemental is why all this happened. This movie is so powerful even now.
this was the hardest film to finish EVER
The beautiful soundtrack in this movie is composed by the brilliant Thomas Newman, my absolute favourite. His music always has a nostalgic otherworldly sound and I can't get enough of it.
Talking about Cassie...the lady in the rocking chair...he was looking at the stars, referring to Cassiopeia.
Forgot one: Gladiator. A MUST SEE.
Heartwarming fact: Sam Rockwell the actor who played Wild Bill is actually a really nice guy & the girls who played his characters victims actually had trouble being terrified of him
Sam Rockwell is a real nice down to earth guy, the first movie I saw him in was Iron Man 2 as Justin Hammer
Dang it Dillion , I cried at this movie, and I cried again at the reaction. Being a guy, its not often, but Michael Clark Duncan and Tom Hanks , they can spill it out, and we cannot help the way we take it in. I hope you watched this again with the missus
yeah green mile, shawshank redemption, and sixth sense are probably my top three favorite movies
Wise choice :)). Mine are Green Mile, Shawshank Redemption and Spider-Man 2002
The only time I've seen this movie is reactors and that's only been three so far and it touches my heart so many times I'm literally tearing up because it's just wow and to learn that the man who played John Coffey passed away makes it just as much more tragic .
That's still 1000x nicer than the names I call Percy!
Michael Clark Duncan sadly passed away a gentle giant and ill always remember him playing characters such as this. And I agree with your sentiments
So, in regards to the character of inmate "Billy", I read this phrase once: "Some people need a hard lesson; other people ARE the hard lesson."
Absolutely man, this and Shawshank are absolutely the best movies
I cried so much that I had to wait a few minutes before leaving the theater. So many people can't believe it's a Stephen King book. As a child of the 80's I'd recommend the Karate Kid trilogy.
Yeah movies like this one are an absolute masterpiece
The absolute derision with which you can say the word “wanker” is really amazing 😂
Hahaha he’s hilarious
I love this movie, love the acting the dialog, all of it. However no line in any movie I've ever seen hits quite like;"Piss on me?!" Fricking gold!
I saw this movie at the theatre when it came out and cried the whole time. Very sad and touching movie.
Now you gotta watch The Mist. Third time Frank Darabont adapted a Stephen King story
I watched this once when I was little, like 6 or 7, and all I could remember was the scene of him outside at 15:20 and the mouse getting stepped on and it traumatized me skskks I had no idea what was going on, I hated it lmao
It's nice to see a grown man be emotional
Del's execution is the one moment everyone is okay with what ever amount of swearing you wanna do.
Michael Clarke Duncan played John Coffey he died in 2012 RIP
RIP Indeed
Lovely man.
I don’t think there’s a character in film that I hate more than Percy.
Agreed
Well to be fair Percy didn't rape and kill two girls.
Granted, Wild Bill did arguably more heinous things, but he's much more amusing.
@@ComeOnIsSuchAJoy Good point he did have a hell of a sense of humor.
Umbridge?
Truly an incredible, heart-wrenching film!
I have seen this movie so many times, and have watched so many reactions. I have never not teared up (at the very least).
18:00 And there it is. God, that exact moment. I love seeing it every time. Just a normal, Depression-era prison drama? Wrong.
Watership Down - man what a film. Watched by kids and adults, both who learnt a lesson in life! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
A great Movie but Brutalfor a Kids movie
Now you've seen 2 of the 3 movies of Stephen King non-horror perfection. Now you need to react to Stand By Me.
Gorgeous heart wrenching film. I have never forgotten it or the feelings it evoked. Be good to each other.
I think you might be a bit confused at the beginning? This movie takes place in 1935, so those weren't slaves. Those were just prisoners doing labor. Slavery was abolished in the US in 1865, which was 70 years before this took place.
Oh yesss. This is a good movie.
Edit: can y’all please stop complaining about his reactions?? Let it go bruh. 😒😒
One of the greatest films I’ve ever seen, there is no film that has made me so emotional.
I just loved the movie the first time and watch it over and over again. I love the acting, the storyline, how the prisoner Waters have pity for John Coffey and some of the others. It‘s just amazing!
Dillon, it is a sad movie but something wonderful came out of it. Mr. Jingles won an Oscar for Best Supporting Rodent in a Drama. 😀😀🐀🐀
ROFLL
Here's some tidbit of info:
1) Michael Clarke Duncan paid tribute to Tom Hanks at a celebration of Tom and saying that Tom was the one who helped/guided him how to do this character. ruclips.net/video/47grTxhtN8o/видео.html
2) Gary Sinise (the man sitting on the porch of the house talking about John Coffey) was the second movie that Gary did with Tom. Listen to his story here. ruclips.net/video/3bbTOjBi7nA/видео.html Also, of course Gary Sinise would be at the same function as Michael and took to the stage to do a tribute to Hanks. ruclips.net/video/rBhL2OztgFY/видео.html BTW, here is a video of Tom Hanks surprising Gary Sinise, as Forest Gump when the Lt Dan Band is doing a live concert. ruclips.net/video/-ac2SfUUGZU/видео.html
3) Some may not be too religious, but if you notice, John Coffey's initials are JC ... coincidence?
I’ve said it over and over again. This movie will be your favorite movie you’ve ever seen that you never want to see you again.
Coffey's abilities were meant to be entirely mysterious, and unexplainable by anything known to mankind.
a beautiful film. just elegantly perfect.
He’s such a great actor
I saw it when it first came out. I had to sit in the theater until everyone was gone because I was sobbing uncontrollably!
L Garner I read the book before I saw the movie so I knew what was coming. I was crying from the minute Michael Clark Duncan appeared.
@@lynnhathaway3755 I waited to read the book because I like to have the mental picture of the characters. I’ve seen it so many times and I cry anyway. Michael Clarke Duncan WAS John Coffey! 🥲
It's so tragic they don't make movies like this anymore. Plot. story. Emotional impact. Pacing. Actors. Now it's all cgi and lasers. I
Flawless performances by all.
Man, you just watched six heavy movies in a row. For a fun change of pace, I highly recommend putting "Hell Comes To Frogtown" on your list! 🐸 😎
Yes or Spiderman series
If u haven't watched them before
Definitely Spider-Man 🖤 Raimi films(fave) plenty fun to be had.
ComeOnIsSuchAJoy ...I can report that "Hell Comes To Frogtown" and the Sam Raimi Spiderman Trilogy is not on this channel. However I would love those drugs you're taking, because you must be high to make such an easily veritable/disprovable statement.
@@BigGator5 I meant he watched THIS movie before Christmas, whereas "Shawshank," "Schindler," SPR, etc. were more recent.
And he's done at least the first Raimi "Spider-Man" flick; can't remember off hand if he's done the second one.
ComeOnIsSuchAJoy ...Ah, I see. Your wording was a bit unclear. Thank you for clearing that up.
I haven't watch this all yet but those people working weren't slaves, they were just prisoners. Back in the day some prisons made you do labor instead of starting fights and stabbing other people for fun
I watched this movie in bed next to my girlfriend sleeping, thinking I would fall asleep, then I'm crawling closer to the tv to hear every word and im in tears by the end. Next night we watched together and both In tears, this movie moved us so much
AWESOME Reaction!!!! there's a few movies that can make me fall apart... this was one of them and still does every time i watch it. I have been guilty of getting the feels from "saving private ryan" "The Shawshank Redemption" and "Schindler's List"... and many many more
Thank You. You are the first person to ever say It is a mouse, not a Rat. And people should know that. Mouse and Rat a 2 different species, if they want to be simple about it. Ok, this movie is one of the Greats. Thank you for sharing with us.
This movie is absolutely something amazing 💕
great reaction man!
I don't think anyone has ever paralleled the green mile and elderly Paul's daily walk over the grassy hill before. Nice one, dude!
Purity vs Taint, light vs dark
Loved your reaction, bud.
While we all hate the characters of Percy and Wild Billy, we have to acknowledge that this was incredible acting by two actors. Kudos to them
Yup if they made you hate those characters then they did a great job portraying them
The actor who played Percy is a creep in real life. He married a 16 year old girl when he was 51.
He compared a human to a dog and poor john had him as his defender.
Yup
Beautiful reaction that made the movie - the Green Mile- cry- ordering it today on Amazon, Thank You 🙏🏻
It is an amazing film based on an original story by Stephen King. King's strength has always been his characters. Not another King film but one that might give you similar feels would be Powder (1995).
