Hi. I have been MIA lately. New issues, find out Tuesday if I have to have brain surgery. Cathy, of course we adore your style content, but the importance of creating the community is so incredible. It’s true that we would like support from others for the hard issues we face but it isn’t often available. Your candor, vulnerability and honest sharing of not only the stressors in your life, but practical yet profound coping mechanisms is so appreciated. Your comment section always has multiple people sharing that they have been uplifted by you or will begin to implement something you have suggested. What a gift to us all. Thank you so much for continuing to light up RUclips with your presence and advice. Love from Texas, where it has finally dropped under 100 degrees.
OH Marti, I am so happy to see you!!! I have been worried about you and hoping that you are okay! Thank you for your message today, I am so relieved to hear from you!! My family and I are praying for you and wishing you the best at your appointment! Love you my friend!! ❤️❤️❤️
After trying to loose my pandemia kilos in vain, I lost more than 10 kilos since March. This is not fast, but without stress and feeling hungry. Motivation was fear of getting diabetes. Eating a log of vegetables is good, but not enough. Eating more protein (no protein powder) and enough fiber combined with intermittent fasting on most of the days made my weightloss possible. I like good food but try to keep the portions smaller than I used to. I stopped snacking completely, cake or small sweets are only eaten at the end of a meal and not every day. But I'm not going to extremes: when meeting friends from time to time in a restaurant or café I enjoy the food there, not skipping the cake or dessert. The trouble with sugar is that sugar is a liar, promising me that I would feel better on a hard day and then it takes the energy out of me, so my body asks for more sugar.... I have to keep this in mind.
Cathy, EVERY SINGLE THING you said really hit home with me. I'm so thankful. When I started me weight loss journey I had some really hurtful comments from "friends". Things like who are you trying to impress, you must have a boyfriend, at your age what does it matter. Finally I stopped sharing with anyone. It's so great to listen to your videos and feel part of a community that understands. I'm very grateful. 🥰
The way I lost weight is to stop dieting. I eat anything I want as long as I only eat when I'm truly hungry and I stop as soon as I'm satisfied. I never feel full anymore, but I make sure I can go at least four hours before my next meal. I never say no to treats as long it's during the time I'm hungry. This way I'm never deprived of my favorite foods. Down over 60lbs!
This is my community! I love your posts & really need this support. I’m in the same boat as you are: hubby with metastatic cancer (currently doing well) & adult son with special needs who’s had 2 kidney transplants. 😢 I’m THE caregiver & I do a great job supporting them, not so much for myself. I wish we could do a live group chat together because I think this is my tribe. My friends are sympathetic but can’t really understand. Thanks for all you do Kathy! ❤❤❤❤❤
Definitely low carb (cutting out all white things - sugar, rice, pasta, bread, white flour). Follow Dr Eric Westman who runs a weight loss clinic for Duke University, and Canadian Jason Fung, MD .
Yes Cathy, don't give up. Congratulations for keeping those 27 pounds off.💜 What has helped me is to look at how far Ive come. I just looked at some pictures from a few years ago, and told myself I'm not going back. Ive worked too hard to loose weight, so that inspires me. I plan to be at my weight loss goal by the Spring of 2025, but if Im not, I'll just keeping going till I do. When I start craving sweets, I brush my teeth, I also ask myself, am I really hungry or just bored? Am I really hungry or am I thirsty. I try not to bring candy, cookies ice cream ect.. into the house cause if its in my house, Im probably going to eat it.😊
My tip? When you eat fiber, you feel full longer. Another thing is to use Stevia. Zevia soda has no dye or bad sweeteners. Do things one day at a time, even one meal at a time. It's all about choices. Everything you put in your mouth is a choice you actually make.
Oh my gosh. Cathy, God bless you with mental and physical strength to deal with your situation. Praying for your peace and comfort! Yes, staying in the present will save you. Give your future to God, and trust His plan.
Very well said Cathy - each point is invaluable to success in taking care of ourselves. I used to enjoy the Weight Watcher meetings too, went with my best friend and we even made friends with the regulars, a pleasant bit of “time off” when we were busy mums. I find that by starting my day with a walk or by going down to our home gym in the basement it sets the tone for my day. I feel that since I’ve invested at least 30 minutes in my health I don’t want to blow it by making poor choices the rest of the day. I’ve also learned that it’s never too late to stop a negative behaviour - I used to tell myself that I’ll do better tomorrow but, instead of waiting, I stop immediately that I recognize a bad habit/choice. More often than not, it works. I’m in this for the long haul 😊
Hi Cathy! I started my weight loss journey when you did. You are so inspiring. I started with the balance plate but moved to low carb as I found that to be most helpful to me. I’ve lost 70lbs. Here’s what has helped me. I try to be consistent. Not perfect. I increased my activity. Try to get in my steps for the day. I decided to get a journal and state what it was that I wanted most days, it’s important to understand your why. I was sick of feeling bad. This has been the first time I’ve ever approached weight loss with the idea towards to feeling better and not trying to get to a certain number or size. Just don’t give up! Keep going! I’m 63, have a similar body to yours. If I can do it, anyone can! Thank you for your continued inspiration!!
I have a silly thing that works for me. When I crave sugar I will eat a dill pickle. Not sure why this works but for me it takes the edge off to make a better choice. I’m also getting counseling….not saying you need this but for me it has helped me deal with stressors in my life. Just remember you are stronger than you know!!! I wish you good health and happiness throughout this chapter of life.
I have heard about the dill pickle trick before, good to know that it works! Counselling is a great idea, I have went in the past when dealing with my husbands diagnosis and found it to be helpful.
@@stylewithcathyover50 I’m sure you are struggling with it all. If you can’t go anywhere there is counseling online. I don’t like to do that but it is available in case you need something. I so love your channel. I can relate to so much of your content
Oh, those Werther's... we have them here in France, and for months on end they were the last of my sugar fixes. I've been about a month without them, and there are days when I still hear them calling! I'm also working on cleaning up my nutrition, switching to decaf coffee, and cutting out sugar. One thing that has helped is baking oatmeal muffins with only 1/4 cup of sugar in a dozen. They're filling, a bit sweet, and I make them with olive oil for more health benefits. This was a fantastic video!
Always love your videos. So real and relatable. I myself have gone from a 16 to a 12. This journey took 2 years. Im still losing slowly. Also have a chronically ill hubby with serious issues. We are no good to anyone if we are worn down. We can all come here and encourage each other. Thanks for all you do!🙂
Great video Cathy‼️ Not only are we over weight but we have the body shape (Apple) that is the most challenging. I am a lifetime Weight Watcher, but guess what, it doesn’t work unless you follow it! So around age 65, my doctor told me that I’m at the age where I can no longer just live off of snacks, fast food etc. He said I needed foods with high density nutrition. So I decided every time I ate, whether snack or meal, it would be nutritious. And within one month I was feeling better and had lost 8 pounds 🎉 When you see results and aren’t really even trying, it makes you want to stick with it. Like you, I’m kinda off track right now (2vacations, a funeral we had to travel to Florida for, and my health isn’t good). Right now I’m trying to get an appointment with a surgeon to have surgery and his receptionist won’t return my call ( more stress)! But I have learned to give myself grace and not be so hard on a slip up. I love this group and don’t know what I’d do without it and YOU! ❤. Love, Susan
Thanks so much Cathy!! I have similar obstacles-life is so messy at times. So important to enjoy the journey and make time to take care of myself. I appreciate this community and the personal comments from other supporters as well. We’ll all get there one day at a time!! Prayers for you, your husband, and daughter. I don’t comment much but I’ve been following your channel for awhile. Wishing you 100k!!
Oh Cathy! I needed this. I am visiting my mom for the last two months. I have gained back 8 lbs! I wanted to give up for the remainder of this visit.i return home to Paraguay in 6 weeks and you have motivated me to do better. At least try not to gain any more.😊Thanks
Sorry your hubby isn't well, Life can be tough at times. I lost weight by not thinking of a 'diet' but Life style change. This really helped me . Been doing it for over 4 years now & lost 68 lbs without dieting. I'm down to 173 lb & i'm 5':10''so i still have some to lose. I eat healthy, home cooked meals, keep sugar to a minumum, exercise every day, i walk daily no matter what the weather & do aerobics at home 5 times per week. All the best to you & your hubby♥
A quote I often see on The Motivational Doctor’s channel that helps me stay on track is “If you don’t make time for your wellness now prepare to make time for illness tomorrow”. Another good one I’ve read is “If you’re tired of starting over stop quitting”. I am 5’ 2” and past 2 years went from 162 to current weight of 127 and lowered my cholesterol. A big key is finding foods I love even if little more expensive. Premier Protein, Chia, Flourish protein pancake mix, etc. Meal prep every Sunday including healthy & tasty berry bran muffins, etc. As a fellow 🇨🇦 love your grocery hauls to get ideas. Please continue this series. One thing I slack on is weight training bc while I lost a lot of weight I also lost muscle. At 52 & post menopausal I need to strength train but not easy to do after work when I just want to relax.
Try over 70, you are so real a very honest person, thank you for support. I even have shopped and bought spanks pants. Weight has always been a Rollercoaster ride for me. I'm taking a senior exercise class and have lost 19 to 21 pounds, thanks to you I'm back on track. You've got this.
I hear you Cathy ! ... whenever I get depressed or worried I usually turn to something sweet ... I've heard that sweets and carbs in general are addicting ... I 've noticed the more carbs I eat the more I want ... if I can go for a few days without eating them I will start to not think of them ... but it is hard ...you have lost a good amount of weight and you haven't put it back on ... that's great !!! ... and you look beautifu' !!! ... you have accomplished a lot ... before you start to beat yourself up about not being perfect go look at some before and after pictures ... that should help.
Excellent video, Cathy! Lots of wisdom. 👍🏻 My #1 weight maintenance tip is to fall in love with a sport. Weight will fall off without you giving it a second thought. And you will maintain it effortlessly! Sports come with support systems automatically, too. Another tip is to ask women in their 60s and older how they avoid weight gain.
You can do it Cathy! I understand completely where you're coming from. I also have slipped in the last month or so, 'treating' myself to sweet treats in the evening and gained 4 lbs!! I'm back on the program now and have lost a half pound in the last week...It's hard though, isn't it? Emotional snacking is just so easy to do, it feels good at the time, but we kick ourselves later. We need to remember that we are none of us perfect. We may get bucked off the healthy eating horse from time to time but as long as we get back in the saddle, we'll be OK. Best wishes Cathy, cheering you on from the West Coast!
You are so right about all of these things, Cathy. After having a tremendous weight loss over the past 2 years and trying to maintain, making the best choice for the moment is key. If fast food is necessary there are things like the chili at Wendy's that is good and better for you. If you eat some jelly beans, eat a couple of mandarins too and get the good food in there on top of it. Next time you may just choose the fruit only. Being prepared in the fridge and pantry in number 1!
Well done Cathy on your positivity about both your health issues, love your videos as you give great advice to everyone 😊 please keep uploading them 😊 as you are truly inspirational.❤❤
Thanks Cathy. This was just what I needed at this time. It has helped me to feel better about the fact that I must eat sensibly and well through all the life changes and generally I do.
You only have 23 pounds to go! Go back to the balanced plate. Don’t bring your trigger foods into the house. How’s your walking going? I am doing just one mile most days. It’s more the habit than the walk or distance. Just push yourself out and do it. Your weather will be cold soon. Get out while you can. Then do walk at home for one mile inside. Remember: IT IS ONLY A CRAVING! It will pass. Just struggle through it. And the fast food meal is not sugar! If you have a drive thru problem as well, make your burger and fries meal at home. Skip half the roll. Add more vegetables. It’s better than drive thru.
Thank you, Cathy. Well done. Plan to follow your roadmap. It would be very easy for me to fall into feeling sorry for myself. Instead, I choose to work at getting stronger every day and make progress with my health. This week I have fallen into the sugar trap. I need to work on that. Thank again for your wisdom and encouragement. ❤
I keep thinking to myself… I eat to live.. not live to eat. My vice is carbs.. carbs are or were my favorite friend I could turn to.. I turned 50 this past December and due to major health issues I went from 220 to 183 and I have put on about 10 pounds and it was like someone punched me in the stomach. I felt like a failure and was so depressed. I am going back to a healthier diet and lifestyle. Due to health issues am unable to exercise or go to gym. I’m looking for chair exercise that I can do to get moving more than I am. It’s a journey for sure and when you do the best you can for that day, then that’s all you can do. One day at a time ❤.. thank you Cathy for your videos and your time. I look forward to seeing your future videos! Blessings to you and your family ❤
I think sugar is everyone’s Achilles heel Cathy you’ve lost weight I’ve been trying to lose weight the last 5 years and no such luck my scale is stuck exercising 1.5 hours a day doesn’t help either but I keep at it just because I don’t want to get bigger. You help to motivate me to keep going..
Cathy, I just love you. I must’ve missed this video when you originally posted it and came across it today. I have been so down on myself and off due to life events. You are so inspiring I even found myself crying through this video. Thank you for sharing these wonderful tips because of you. I am starting a new today with a new positive outlook. Thank you so much, dear lady.
I hope you keep doing these videos because they are affirming and encouraging. I feel like I'm making changes along with you, and it helps to not feel alone. I got off track on exercise when my mom died several months ago, so many details to take care of, stress...so now I'm doing stretching in the morning, eating less and staying clear of my known pitfalls, and feel encouraged. A large part of it is your encouragement. Thank you Cathy! You are helping me!!
Thank you, Kathy, for this video! Congratulations on losing 27 pounds! I’ve plateaued, too - I’ve lost about 25 pounds going to aquafit twice a week, walking 25 minutes most days, and following your healthy eating tips. (Thank you!) since mid-August, life has revved up, and I’ve run right to the chocolate and ice cream. I KNOW it’s not healthy for me, but there you are. I’m just grateful I haven’t put weight back on! Be proud of what you’ve accomplished, and try not to bring candy into the house. I try to have a healthy lunch I like waiting at home, so if I’m tempted by fast food when I’m out, I tell myself “You’ll have a good lunch when you get home.” Often I find fast food doesn’t taste as good as it smells. And I agree that the Werther’s company should have to supply its customers with a personal trainer (or at least access to a personal trainer app) to work off the calories from their delicious candies!😁 I can’t have them in the house either.
I love what you said about a good meal waiting at home, that is so true. And also, I really don't even like the taste of fast food, for me I think it's more of a soothing mechanism.
Thanks for sharing all these tips cathy😊 I'm a turtle at losing weight& always want to give up. I'm down 8lbs in two months. I feel so much better already. It's the mind set for me that's so hard. Your videos always help. Thanks for all you do. Best to everyone on this weight loss to better health❤
Thank you, Cathy. I have made the chickpea salad that you shared several times. It’s hard to find recipes that are good for you but not so fussy and call for ingredients that are hard to find. That is a good one!
I think "progress not perfection" when I am trying to change eating habits. I think if you just strive to continue to make little changes to your diet and exercise program, you will continue to improve over time. I don't do anything radical that I won't stick with long term.
Hi Cathy, I love your Holloween decorations!! 🎃🎃 I’ve been frustrated too. I’ve walked 5 miles 5 days a week doing your diet and not lost anything. I gave up the last week and have been foraging for sugar. I’ll get back on track, it’s a speed bump. That’s how I’m thinking about it at least.
I guess my comment is lost in cyberspace! I am glad you do these videos because they are affirming, encouraging and they really help me, thank you. It is helpful to know we aren't alone, that our struggles are common. I was also off my routine when my mom passed away, so much to wrap up and so much stress, exercise was the last thing on my mind. I'm back to stretching (it's relaxing) and staying away (for the most part, except a weekend day!) from my pitfall items (salty snacks). You are encouraging and are definitely helping me! Thank you Cathy!
Hi Cathy, this was a great video! You are a beautiful woman, so inspiring, and so current with everything. I appreciate all the tips. Weight loss is an ongoing struggle for me so I appreciate your videos so much! Thank you for sharing with us. Have a wonderful blessed day!🙏❤️🤗
Thank you for this video! I needed it! I too am an emotional eater too and sugar is my problem as well. I know you said having someone to talk to helped you. Is there anything else that has helped? Maybe journaling or therapy, etc. I was thinking maybe writing things down would help to change them.
I was never one to journal, but if it helps you, I would try it. I don't have any tricks, I just keep telling myself progress over perfection and if I slip up, I just move on.
I'm going to a nutritionist at the end of the month, first visit. I've tried losing on my on but need some guidance and accountability. If it wasn't for you and you sharing your weight loss journey, I don't think I'd have this new mindset. Thank you for sharing so much with us. You're the best!
Get a calendar. Write down what you eat. When you write down what you're having before you go to eat it, you have a real chance to change your mind, lol. Keep the calendar near the table. You can go back and highlight your really good days. Its a glance back at the month.
I missed this the other day ! I hear your struggle it’s hard for me as my scale doesn’t budge except go up then down then it looks as if I’m losing and it says nope you can’t do that and im suddenly up the weight I just lost keep going girl I’m touting for ya stress does do a number on a person say how do you make your smoothie with yogurt?
Hi Cathy really good video and very good information Cathy and I have had some bad days but I started fresh the next day and I’m doing some exercises thanks again for sharing your video I really enjoyed it and they are very helpful Cathy have a great week ❤x
I have lost two hundred pounds i ten years ago and kept it off by eating Ketogenic diet I got doctor Westman’s book ,it wasn’t easy at first at Christmas I eat my favorite food but the rest of the year I eat smart I am seventy one sugar wasn’t my problem it was salt plus thyroid issues
I tried the carnivore diet for about a month. I am a BIG sugar eater- but I found that I didn't want sugar anymore- so, I too think it had something to do with a high protein diet.
Perhaps one day Cathy; you can take a look at the many low carb channels: keto, carnivore lifestyle is helping thousands of people ! #keep an open mind
I’m struggling, I have been feeling very stressed and anxious lately. I have thought about making a chat video, but unsure if I should, if anyone would find it helpful.

We are no good to anyone if we are worn down. We can all come here and encourage each other. Thanks for all you do!🙂
Thank you!
❤. Love, Susan
Thanks Susan, I appreciate you!💖
Hi Cathy, Thanks so much for this grounded and heartfelt video.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you! I appreciate you saying hello today. 💖
Oh Cathy! I needed this. I am visiting my mom for the last two months. I have gained back 8 lbs! I wanted to give up for the remainder of this visit.i return home to Paraguay in 6 weeks and you have motivated me to do better. At least try not to gain any more.😊Thanks
You got this Rita! Hugs to you!
Thank you!
Thank you Cathy for the achievable ideas for loss weight...so helpful...thank you!!!❤❤❤
Glad it was helpful!
WOW, that is amazing!! Congrats on your weight loss. 💖
Thank you!
Love that!
Thank you for keeping it real and know that you are helping others by sharing your story and your feelings. You are an inspiration! ❤
You are so welcome!
Thanks Linda!💖
You are so right about all of these things, Cathy. After having a tremendous weight loss over the past 2 years and trying to maintain, making the best choice for the moment is key. If fast food is necessary there are things like the chili at Wendy's that is good and better for you. If you eat some jelly beans, eat a couple of mandarins too and get the good food in there on top of it. Next time you may just choose the fruit only. Being prepared in the fridge and pantry in number 1!
Great tips! Thank you.
Well done Cathy on your positivity about both your health issues, love your videos as you give great advice to everyone 😊 please keep uploading them 😊 as you are truly inspirational.❤❤
Thank you for this Cathy. ❤
You are so welcome!
Thanks for your tips and your support.
Sending love, hugs, and prayers. 🙏❤️
Thank you 😊
Thank you, Cathy. Well done. Plan to follow your roadmap. It would be very easy for me to fall into feeling sorry for myself. Instead, I choose to work at getting stronger every day and make progress with my health. This week I have fallen into the sugar trap. I need to work on that. Thank again for your wisdom and encouragement. ❤
One day at a time Gina! Nice to see you today!💖
Thank you!
You are so welcome! ❤️
I'm so sorry about your Mom Karen. You support me also, I love seeing your face pop up in the comments. Thank you for being here. 💖
You got this!
Thank you. So well presented, and thank you for truly caring about your audience and sharing your story.
Thanks for watching!
I really needed to hear this today! Thank you for your content, I look forward to your posts. Also, tips for adding protein ??? I just can’t do eggs!
Thank you for this I needed this too
You are so welcome!
Thank you, Cathy. I have made the chickpea salad that you shared several times. It’s hard to find recipes that are good for you but not so fussy and call for ingredients that are hard to find. That is a good one!
You are so welcome!
Wonderful words of wisdom. TFS ❤️
You are so welcome!
I really needed this video today. Thank you Kathy for your wise words and encouragement. 🍗🧆🍤🍝
Happy to help!
I think "progress not perfection" when I am trying to change eating habits. I think if you just strive to continue to make little changes to your diet and exercise program, you will continue to improve over time. I don't do anything radical that I won't stick with long term.
Hi Cathy, I love your Holloween decorations!! 🎃🎃
I’ve been frustrated too. I’ve walked 5 miles 5 days a week doing your diet and not lost anything. I gave up the last week and have been foraging for sugar.
I’ll get back on track, it’s a speed bump. That’s how I’m thinking about it at least.
Wow, that's a lot of walking. I really need to start.
🎉🎉🎉 NOW PLEASE 🙏🏽
Having an accountability partner has been great for me to report to a friend daily
Really good motivation ! Thank you
You're so welcome!
Excellent video.
Thank you very much!
I'm so sorry about your Mom Karen. You support me also, I love seeing your face pop up in the comments. Thank you for being here. 💖
Hi Cathy, this was a great video! You are a beautiful woman, so inspiring, and so current with everything. I appreciate all the tips. Weight loss is an ongoing struggle for me so I appreciate your videos so much! Thank you for sharing with us. Have a wonderful blessed day!🙏❤️🤗
You are so welcome!
I think you’re doing great! I’m on this weight loss journey with you. Caramel apples are my nemesis 😂😂😂😂❤
IMHO that was your best shareable video to date ❤❤❤
I'm proud of you Mary! We are always here to support you!
Great video... thanks
Thanks Alana, you too! xo
I am a BIG sugar eater- but I found that I didn't want sugar anymore- so, I too think it had something to do with a high protein diet.
sugar is not the enemy neither is carbs dont eat junk food eat fruit when u crave sugar mangos bananas etc
Perhaps one day Cathy; you can take a look at the many low carb channels: keto, carnivore lifestyle is helping thousands of people ! #keep an open mind
I'm not interested in either of those, it's important to find something that works for each individual.
@@stylewithcathyover50 - there is also "animal-based" ... I'm sure you'll get there !
When I started to lose weight, I just started eating breakfast around 10, then little by little it was 12 noon. I lost 16 lbs. Then I plateaued.
Do you follow Dr Mary Claire Haver? She talks a lot about how menopause affects our metabolism and many other aspects of our lives.
Have you found your weightloss motivation yet?...I have really been struggling to find mine. Your video made me feel not so alone.
I’m struggling, I have been feeling very stressed and anxious lately. I have thought about making a chat video, but unsure if I should, if anyone would find it helpful.
@StyleWithCathy You are not alone either. (((Hugs))). Sometimes it helps to know you are not the only one struggling. 💕
What's your hba1c?
How much weight have you lost?
27 Pounds.
@@stylewithcathyover50 Keep up the good work. 👍
Thanks!
Cut out snacking.
Sorry...weight loss!!!❤
Cathy, this is excellent, thank you!🩷 I love the part about letting go of past failures. And the part about not putting ourselves down.
It's so true!
