- We meet Darren Moser, a Star Wars costume and prop builder who's been working on a life-size K-2SO from Rogue One. His version of the droid is meant to be puppeted, and Darren demonstrates the joint and linkage systems he's using to bring this character to life.
Find more of Darren's projects at drscifi.com/ and follow along his K-2SO build at www.therpf.com/showthread.php?...

Thanks for watching! Наука
I look forward to Tested catching up with this guy again when the whole thing is done.
Darren Moser Sweet, thanks for following up.
this is amazing :D do you have any videos of him up anywhere?
Met Darren Moser at celebration and got pictures with him as Cassian. He is such a talented guy and nice. Amazing work he does for BD-1 as well!
Thanks Noah!
his shirt makes it 500% better than it already is
so cool, "did you know that wasn't me?" lol k2so was fantastic
Agreed, Vader scene was epic.
I really liked this guy. Do more stuff with him.

These comments are to accurate for Tested, only V L would have such accurate comments!
It didn't say "we'll show you how we make...".
doesn't sound good, does it?
That is very cool. Once your torso is finished, from the front the puppeteer will be nearly invisible. Well done.
That mirror trick is actually really clever. I wonder how it would look in person.
I haven't even watched the video yet, even so I just get really excited over these "making" videos that you upload, always a treat...
Scuba fins! Genius! And those finger extenders!
Loving the Captain Harlock costumes near the door!
That is just awesome. I hope you guys come back to Darren when he's finished K2.
This is so cool. Cant wait to see K2 when its finished.
In episode 1 and 2 this is how they did the non-skinned C-3PO. Its called the Japanese Bunraku method.
it's also how they did the skeleton terminator.
People like this really inspire me to keep going on with a dificult project.
His head is freakin' gorgeous! His design to, one of the best Star Wars designs i've seen in a while, movie wise.
Love this interview and the process behind making the life sized puppet of our beloved K-2SO. Alan Tudyk was the best choice for that character.
wonderful to see his passion
Outs standing build. Keep Working it looks great and will be Amazing when you finish.
Cool dude! I'm glad that I am not the only one obsessed with this droid... I already have five in different sizes...
I'm loving the Captain Harlock and Emeraldas costumes in the back too!
Holy awesome DIY build Batman! It's amazing the kinds of stuff people can build themselves
DARREN! My favorite show (TESTED). 501st skills! Well done brother, hope to troop with ya soon!
I love the Ashley Wood influence in K2's design. Popbot brought to life.
It walks so majestically clumsy, I love it.
I would like to attend this next year. Flights might be costly...but I'd love to go
My first thought when Darren said that K-2SO's feet were attached to his feet was "that has to be like walking around in some long swim flippers..." fast forward to the part of the video with Darren and K-2SO walking around, and BAM! ACTUAL swim flippers. I love it.
This K2SO is amazing !
This is really impressive. :) Lovely work!
its the flippers that makes this work, look forward to seeing it finished
This is really great. Looks fantastic. Was kinda hoping it was an animatronic, but still really cool!!!
Very impressive!! Great job!
That Firefly/Rogue One t-shirt rocks !
Great job! Love the flipper feet.
Thats really cool creativity is so fun
could have used a wired camera to a small DVR screen, one battery, better frame rate, wire could just run down tube. be cheaper and lighter than iPad+camera+battery for camera
Michael Edmond Why don't you go build your own if you're so smart.
w00tkid
You're a waste of space.
Fantastic and inspiring
yesssss i waited so long for you to upload a prop thingy nice
RIP Grant you enriched our lives , taken too soon 😪
OMG! James Bruton needs to make one of these!!!
Really cool, I think the only thing missing is head movement, to give the puppet a bit more life. Besides head movement is key in K2SO comic timing.
Man I wish I was this constructive and good at math.
Was secretly hoping to see Ace Cosplay's build on here.
Foshay has anybody let her know yet? Love her build, gonna be enormous though!
Yeah, I'm still waiting to see the complete build with my own eyes. Her controlling it is gonna be a sight for sure! She'll look tiny compared to it no doubt.
2:48, Dude looked so annoyed that the interviewer was interrupting him
very cool, very cool
cosplay chris' hand moleman peaking in the background!
ThatKiwiGamer hell yeah, I was searching in the comments for someone else that saw him.
@DarrenMoser you should totally make one of those motion cap suits for yourself, so that you look like what a puppeteer could've been on set.
I want to see this at Star wars Celebration next year
Darren Moser can you document your build on your youtube channel?
Darn it, if I didn't have school, I'd start making one, too... Awesome build though. May the Force be with you.
they be gangsta, until a literal ghost child possesses it
very cool
LOL I made a Puppet just like that one too! Just much much much smaller, Daxter from the Jak & Daxter Game series ^^
I love that he's using swim fins for the feet hahaha
one of the few good things about that movie.
where is the rest of this video, I want to see this thing completed
That is an amazing shirt.....
Thank you so much! Fantastic.
3:18 Dude in the red got Jonah Falcon beat to bits!
For the next one day build please do something from mst 3000!!! With the reboot just released I think it's mighty appropriate
The little girls look tells all. Yep that's my dad wearing a robot. Love you.
All he has to work on is his movement, matching K2's graceful fluid motions and lanky stride is going to be tough.
need more attachment points below the waist...
that's still got a long way to go
sonicase thanks captain obvious
Where can you find footage of the grievous version?
Fantastic build! Was he 100% CGI in the movie?
wow. I wonder if you could join rebel legion with this. that would be super cool
Adam. do you have any props from the movie " I Robot " It's my favourite syfy movie. Spike from the UK
what was that costume in the back with skull and crossbones please
Please do a follow up on this when it's finished Norm!
Why did you use the music from plamo tsukurou at the end"?
wouldn't it be nice to create a small k2so with joints that can articulate pretty well
nice
"Hey everybody, it's No-" *Ctrl + W*
2:24 Pazuzu jump scare.
Should have used an FPV camera set up for race drones, wouldn't have any latency and would be much cheaper and more concealed.
Wait, was the RPF meetup in Frank's shop?
Simon Southey-Davis yes.
Why the hell can't I find footage of the General Grievous puppet?
i love the empire. they were well funded, fully equipped and organized. the rebels were just a bunch of stinking hippies
but your 'droid' is still SUMMER THAN A BUNCH OF ROCKS#!
0:13 Insta of the girl with the sword, pls? Need it for a school project.
cool
Atleastwe have another k2so
If this dude has a year or two before the next convention he may want to look into automating the legs so he can mimic K2SO's loping walk.
Elemental_Phoenix legs sound hard.
Maybe, but most of the weight should be supported by the puppeteer's body and then it's just a simple matter of automating the legs correctly.
U should revisit this maker
K2 is on version 3. He'll be at Star Wars Celebration Anaheim this May 2022
Anyone else recognize the instrumental cover of "Walkie Talkie Man" by Steriogram for the intro song?
Tested is always great to watch. Is it just me, or does it always sound like Norm always has to get a word in whenever he's interviewing someone? Like...I get he's trying to ask questions/get a good conversation flow going, but why does it always seem like he just cut off the guest just so he can say something?
I want a tutorial on how to make this
General Grievous wasn't a droid Norm.
I can't stand norm
That kid on the left xD 0:24
but can he give the finger?
It look like a comando droid from Star Wars
He should dress up as Alan Tudyk in a motion capture suit
John Castro 😂😂😂😂😂😂
what other puppet are they talking abouth that has the same mechanics
I think it was General Grievous, great looking puppet.
2.74 ... oh no .. CALCULUS ALERT!!!! RUN!!! FIRE!!! MAYDAY MAYDAY!!! HOUSTON WE HAVE A PROLLY going to mess something up!!!
I saw Cosplay Criss's Mole man head, but not him.
It has potential for sure but the walking looks very odd, the knees dont bend much at all.
6:48 Dude... I wouldn't trust myself to navigate a con floor using a 2 frame per second feed.
rather than an imperial officer uniform this guy should just wear the green screen spandex suit
That girl with the purple hair is stupidly ridiculously unbelievably atrociously really really good looking. Seriously she's a beaut- it makes me mad lol
Kudos to the builder. He has a lot of love for his project. The movement just isn't like a droid, kids will still love it, it looks amazing. But the movement is the only downside. I don't there will every be a k2 in real life
Darren Moser Hey! It's a big project to undertake and I know I couldn't even get close! I'll definitely keep an eye on your project though I love K2.
Kilo-Lima Glass half empty?
w00tkid full
I want to get into robotics
