- The Emotions were composed of three sisters Hutchinson, Wanda, Sheila and Jeanette, who hailed from Chicago, Illinois. When they first began singing at the Mt Sinai Baptist Church, they were joined by their father Joe and were known as the Hutchinsons, before adopting the Heavenly Sunbeams moniker.
They first appeared on TV in 1958 as a one off and then hosted a radio gospel program. Their newfound fame got them a weekly TV series and brought them to the attention of The Staple Singers who in turn suggested that legendary Stax/Volt Records in 1968. They wanted to break out of gospel and move into pop music so they changed their name to The Emotions.
Soon sister Pam replaced Jeanette in the trio and they began to work with Isaac Hayes (Shaft). They released four singles, but were unable to reach the top 40 except for the #39 "So I Can Love You" in 1969. "Black Christmas" and "Blind Alley" became underground favorites for R&B crowd and Mariah Carey used a sample of "Blind Alley" in her hit song "Dream Lover". Carey says that the riff inspired the song was put way down in the mix.
Stax/Volt famously imploded in 1975 and the sisters found themselves without label support. Maurice White stepped in and signed the group to his Kalimba Productions which was distributed by Columbia Records and their first collaboration resulted in the "Flowers" LP which again failed to make top 50 in the double sided single "Flowers/I Don't Wanna Lose Your Love", but opened them up to a new audience that fell in love with the intricate harmonies that played over a totally funky new sound. The song was embraced by the disco crowd who pushed it to #3 on the disco chart, and R&B radio where it peaked at #13. - Видеоклипы

None other than Verdine White
There will never be music like this ever again ❤❤
One of the greatest girl groups of all time paired with one of the greatest bands in history.
Actually, the Greatest female singing group!
This is one of many reasons The Emotions should be in The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.Let's start the hashtag #THEEMOTIONSFORHOF2020 ❤❤❤❤
I agree!!!!The Emotions were THE girl group of the 70's ,but they always ranked high on my list past that decade!
@Anthony Jolly
They need to be in R&B HOF
or Music HOF.
It shouldn't be titled rocknroll since it's different music styles.
In '76 when this song aired was the year I started college, and I saw these girls live in Jax, Fla the very next yr in 1977.
They were the opening group for EWF. I was flabbergasted during their performance. Their voices were beautiful and the rhythm of their music was breath taking.
They have got to be the greatest female group ever we rocked them when we're in Cali.
The “Soul” of Soul Music, is the bass! The Emotions, vocals❤️Thanks for this awesome mix..🕺💃🏾🕺💃🏾🕺💃🏾🕺💃🏾
Wanda, Sheila and Jeanette!!! Sounds AWESOME after 41 years (recorded in 1976).
Steven Johnson Yes Indeed 🤗
This song was done with over 30 musicians ,playing as a super group. That's why it sounds so deep, and these ladies soar over it all without being pushed up front in the mix, its perfect harmony.
Funk in its purest form
I'm glad I was a kid back in these days...we had so much fun and all we wanted to do was go dancing and have fun...and we sure Did....and nobody had a goddamned cell phone in their face all the time.
Now this is music. I was barely a teenager. But this type of music is a classic. These Sisters had it together.
THESE ARE MY GIRLS RIGHT HERE AND STILL IN 2019!

We thought those Daze would last forever 1976 danced all Night 💯🤗
Underrated, one of the great girl groups of the last 50 years...this is lit, just entering junior high when this was bangin'...
Cathlean Johnson yes, they were just at the beacon in nyc last sat. nite feb. 17TH, along with bluenotes, bloodstone,an others. sold out so I went roller skating !! Jersey checkin in !!!!! Class of " 72 "
LUCKY 472 You obviously have good taste, never got to see those ladies in person and sorry you didn't... Virginia Class of '77' in the house..
The perfection.....nothing else. Vocal and instrumental
The emotions must be one of the most underrated bands ! They're super iconic what the 70s were I love all these remixed songs from a truly brilliant era in music it's taking me back growing up in Oldham Wigan Bolton England 1976 1986 ! Playing football all day during the school summer holidays and we were out all day till we couldn't see the football and my mum telling me to come in !!! Brilliant films Star wars superman jaws star trek James bond the spy who loved the Moonraker the Deer Hunter apolcypse now marathon man return of the Jedi empire strikes back raiders of the lost ark Gregory's girl officer + a gentleman tootsie blade runner smoke y and the bandit !
Classic cut, vocals and brass for me
Bassline and Horns.
dang childhood memories but still jamming to it now
I so love Emotions
Pure perfection..... the Emotions" rules, you girls kept the 70s rockin.😎
Great extended mix! I always thought this song was too short.
From the first note, you know you gonna love it and move to the dancefloor. The voice, the beat and the tune bear a striking resemblance with the Sisters Sledge.
In the golden days of Gay Disco in the late seventies we used to tear up the dance floor to this.
Sister sledge resembles them.
First year of High School, what a time. Dream come true to attend 1 of 2 historically black high schools in Richmond, Virginia. Maggie L Walker.❤❤❤ That feeling that was in the air, PRICELESS!
Remains an underrated cult dance cut to this day. They were my childhood neighbors and I wonder if they know this jam is still faithfully played in Chicago’s underground house music clubs.
This is the first song I listen to every morning. There isn't much that can go wrong during the rest of the day.
I swear boomers had the best music! 🫰 👏
WHO IS STILL PLAYING THIS RECORD TODAY IN 2018? I KNOW I AM.
2019 still listening
@@johngray3247 And will still be blasting this in 2020!!!!

yes yes yes love love..good memories..dancing at aunt betty living room..😊😊😊
This is a GREAT mix! I always thought this song was too short. This is perfect!
SUPERBLY EXTENDED MIX !!!
Doesn't get any better than this!
Gregory Davis it really doesn't !! If I hear this one more time, I'm going to actively seek out dance classes ! I think it's a true shame there's no place to go out and dance with people who love this stuff. At least not in my neck of the woods, and I'm in a fairly cosmopolitan area. It's the kids these days have terrible taste. Just terrible !!!
Am a DJ but I stared as a light man at club 88 this song had some breaks I never forget how much fun I had with this song
Club 88 in east orange nj?
I grew up on this, true FUNK!!!
LET'S DANCE
💃 🙆💃🙅💃💁💃🙋💃
This can not be ever redone by anyone else. DiscoCat you’re a Tiger dude. Just lethal.
The youngsters of today will never understand how great our generation of music was...today music is trash
CAN YOU DIG IT SUCKERS!!!!!! THIS IT! This is what Funky soul is all about. Having EWF as your backup doesn't hurt.
They just don’t make music like this anymore and yesssssssssssss I’m still listening
I always thought this song was too short. Great remix!
Put you in the mood for a party 🎉
This song is still as powerful, propulsive, and outright narcotic as the first time I heard it in 1976. It is an R&B masterpiece, a proto- Disco masterpiece, and a Pop masterpiece, even if it never actually charted Pop. The bassline is scorched-Earth, the guitars and horns are perfect counterpoints and punctuations, the engineering and sound quality of this recording are State of the Art nearly half a century later, and the vocals are simultaneously divine and sensual. To me, one of the greatest legacies of classic Soul and Disco are the combination of the so-called "masculine" (DEEEEP bass and Funk elements) topped with "feminine" elements (the Emotions' inimitable and angelic vocals). (IMHO, "Spring Affair" nearly everything by First Choice, and "Dancing In Paradise" are two other examples...)
Verdine white is killing that bass line on this song
Classic guaranteed to fill any dance floor quick and in a hurry.
Yesssss! I love this song! These ladies had some good grooves!
Facts!!! When music was music!
Outstanding mix!

DiscoCat, what are you doing to me!!!! I have loved this song for decades and I have always wanted to hear an extended version of this timeless classic, and once again, you have delivered in spades, sweetie, you are EVERYTHING!!!!
Dyana Bartley I bet you made DiscoCat's day when you said that ! Obviously he or she is talented as they come... still those who have it like to be reminded sometimes.... and baby I agree all the way !!!! This is it !!! I can't not move to this !!!!
I already got my soul train line up dance perfectly choreographed to this !!! You could be paralyzed and hypnotized... sheeeeyit ... and still know exactly how to cut up a high pile shag rug. RIP Don Cornelius !!! You know they say he was a thug, but he could teach these youngsters something. I still ain't a bit mad with him
These ladies are one of the best to ever record. They had the secret sauce. Way underrated ... and still sound great today.
This song is for my mom Pauline cowans happy 63th b-day thank you mom love you mom miss you mom rip
