A fan trip on the South Shore with two photo runbys at Michigan City; one downtown, and the other where the C&O (former Pere Marquette passes over). If the train looks like it's going fast it certainly was, with portions of the CSS&SB good for probably 90 MPH running in that era.

I grew up in Michigan City in the 50's and early 60's, so I really appreciate this video. My father commuted to Chicago for many years on the South Shore, and my mother, brother, and I would pick him up every evening. And I explored the MC yard and shops back when security wasn't a big thing. Cheers from Wisconsin!

LOVE it. Born in 73 near SB and have taken SS many times to Chicago over the years. Love seeing any footage of their vintage cars and little joes. Michiana Mainlines is also a great channel for those wanting to see trains and history from northern Indiana and southern Michigan. Bruce does a great job with his content.

Those new Alco C628's in the train at 0:51 to 0:54 are Ferrocaril del Pacifico units headed for delivery in Mexico. They were built in April 1964, so that dates this footage pretty well. I wonder what the Schmidt's of Philadelphia Brewing Company reefer at 3:28 was doing in the Calumet region? Thanks for posting!
