    =====================
    JS Maya まや (DDG-179) joins the JMSDF’s Escort Flotilla 1, based in Yokosuka.
    Launched on July 30th 2018 from the JMU Shipyard in Yokohama, the JS Maya is the first of a new class of improved destroyers with ballistic missile defense capabilities. Each unit costs around US$1,5Bn and were being built at the JMU’s shipyard at Isogo Ward in Yokohama. This will be a two ship class: JS Maya and JS Haguro.

    What a handsome vessel. The bridge level might give you a nosebleed, but you'll have a great view of the coming battle in the SCS.
    BTW, why are they only building two? They also built only two Arago-Class vessels (the Maya-class predecessor). The Australians only budgeted for three Hobart -class air defense warfare destroyers. Building fewer class vessels increases costs (just look at the Zumwalt), and limits your ability to adequately correct issues that may arise during production. I guess we're a little spoiled as we continue to lay down and improve Arleigh Burke ships (now up to Flight III ships).

    • @izumishion6267
      @izumishion6267 7 месяцев назад

      Mostly because the JMSDF doesn't need a large fleet like the US or UK who patrol the world. These ships are used to patrol Japan's territorial waters and such, they aren't meant to go to war. Japan also doesn't have many places to build warships thus they prefer quality over quantity.

    The Maya DDG 179 and Haguro DDG 180 are newer subclasses of the DDG 177 Atago and DDG 178 Ashigara. While it shares the same design characteristics as the Atago-class, the Maya-class possesses a larger hull. The enlarged hull is believed to allow future naval weapons to be accommodated, most notably railguns and laser point-defense systems. The Maya-class features the newer Aegis Baseline 9 system (referred as J7 in Japan). The Atago-class uses the Aegis Baseline 7 system.[3] The Maya-class is also the first JMSDF Aegis vessel to be ready for ballistic missile defense (BMD) from the time of its commissioning. • @briananthony4044

      I do wonder the same. Wuhan having virus research facility seems suspicious. Also Chinese leaders wouldn't be too worried about some deaths if it knocks out the West. Which it has economically. In NZ's case government debt is forecast to climb from less than 20% of GDP to as high as 50% due to the COVID19 virus. Countries with much higher debts to begin with are going to be basket cases. British leaders have earmarked over 600 billion, the US over 2 trillion. Another pandemic will strike before 2030, this is our 3rd since 2000 with Sars and Birdflu. It is going to take decades to get debt and revenue back to where they were pre virus. The next will strike well before then. To be sure defence budgets are likely to be cut to the bone everywhere but China.
