My dear, take a closer look at your history. The family was Chalcedonian Orthodox Christian. There was no Roman Catholic Church until the Great Schizm in the 11th century, even though they were located in the western part of the growing Christian world.

Exactly! And yet the Merovingians were so interesting and did so much, allowing the Carolingians to get their empire in the first place.
