that's the downside of the old formula. it followed a specific route every season that it got so tiring quickly. by the end of DP, a lot of fans wanted to retire ash already or at least not make him the protag temporarily. you can tell it had become a literal money printing machine at some point because they just didn't care about the macro story and continuation.

I think Liko's character was so well fleshed out without the very typical straightforward growth of a Pokemon trainer from the games. Rystal also bonded with Terapagos to capture it, so it's only fair for Liko who is actively helping and protecting Terapagos to capture it deservedly. All the question now is with Roy, how will Roy show his competence as a trainer to deserve the shiny Rayquaza? And Dot might get something, an Ogerpon maybe?
James AFAIK never battled the Pokemon that went with him along the way, it's nothing new and James has been widely praised for this. Go catching Suicune was bad though. Still, the fact they moved away from Ash's journey wasn't made only to help Nina Matsumoto catch a break, but it was also meant to move on a different direction than Ash's anime. They could have chosen thriller, mystery, adventure, romance, slice of life or whatever else, and it'd be nobody's business to compare it to Ash. Besides, complaining about future characters getting legendary Pokemon just because Ash didn't get any is silly complaint. The show was criticized for not allowing Ash to have one so if anything it is correcting the previous show's shortcoming. Why would Horizons need to keep that low standard?

My only complain is that the previous episodes kept giving hints that Terapagos was the key to Rakua like Lucius was travelling with it for the purpose of finding Rakua, but no Terapagos was indeed from Area Zero and was Rystal's pokemon meaning it was just going along for the ride and had no connection to Raqua whatsoever, in fact stopping the Rakurium from spreading by using the energy of the six heroes was his only purpose besides that he was kind of invisible. PS: I say Rakua instead of Laqua, as I think it sounds better. Edit: Remember when they met Briar and started telling her the connections between Terapagos, Lucius and the six heroes? Briar just replied "Wow, still so much to learn, so many connections" not really, if she is indeed learning Heath's story and the connections between Area Zero and the crystal pool like in the games, Lucius story despite having Terapagos really has nothing to do with what she's learning, like I sad, if Terapagos was indeed the key to Rakua that would have been a little different, but no.
Maybe make Terapagos do anything other than serve as a plot device. Maybe then I'll actually say, "Wow, she actually caught a Legendary. She doesn't really need 3 extra slots for other pokemon when she has that on her side." I swear I'd get more enjoyment out of her catching any other Pokemon considering this is Episode 75, and she still only has two pokemon, both of which aren't even fully evolved yet. Aside from Alola and Journeys Ash, every other variant of Ash would've had a full team by this point. Also, "surpassing Ash?" We know that Ash would definitely CLAP Liko in a 3 v 3. Ash has proved that he can handle legendaries, so no matter how many legendaries she gets, Ash would win.
Why is this even a discussion? Obviously if Liko and Ash fought Ash would win, he IS the strongest trainer in the whole world. I do think that there are some team compositions that would make ash loose because terapagos really is a powerhouse in lore and floragato is decent enough but any decent team of ash would most likely win. Honestly i do like Liko more as a character but she is not focused on growing stronger like ash, she simply requires strength to achieve her goals.
I mean, it's not that hard to surprise him. He got a lot of badges out of pity from the gym leaders or dumb luck or anything but earning it by battling them. Ash in the Kanto league was high gym leader level (a bit stronger than Roy). So, Ash would beat Liko.
My only complain is that the previous episodes kept giving hints that Terapagos was the key to Rakua like Lucius was travelling with it for the purpose of finding Rakua, but no Terapagos was indeed from Area Zero and was Rystal's pokemon meaning it was just going along for the ride and had no connection to Raqua whatsoever, in fact stopping the Rakurium from spreading by using the energy of the six heroes was his only purpose besides that he was kind of invisible.
PS: I say Rakua instead of Laqua, as I think it sounds better.
Edit: Remember when they met Briar and started telling her the connections between Terapagos, Lucius and the six heroes? Briar just replied "Wow, still so much to learn, so many connections" not really, if she is indeed learning Heath's story and the connections between Area Zero and the crystal pool like in the games, Lucius story despite having Terapagos really has nothing to do with what she's learning, like I sad, if Terapagos was indeed the key to Rakua that would have been a little different, but no.
Maybe make Terapagos do anything other than serve as a plot device. Maybe then I'll actually say, "Wow, she actually caught a Legendary. She doesn't really need 3 extra slots for other pokemon when she has that on her side."
I swear I'd get more enjoyment out of her catching any other Pokemon considering this is Episode 75, and she still only has two pokemon, both of which aren't even fully evolved yet.

Why is this even a discussion? Obviously if Liko and Ash fought Ash would win, he IS the strongest trainer in the whole world. I do think that there are some team compositions that would make ash loose because terapagos really is a powerhouse in lore and floragato is decent enough but any decent team of ash would most likely win. Honestly i do like Liko more as a character but she is not focused on growing stronger like ash, she simply requires strength to achieve her goals.

I mean, it's not that hard to surprise him. He got a lot of badges out of pity from the gym leaders or dumb luck or anything but earning it by battling them. Liko doesn't need to stay more than 3 years, she will achieve her goal and Horizons will be the start of a generational change of new characters and stories, so they won't reset each time the old lead and stagnanting the series for other 20 years. Ash was just there because they didn't know what to do with him anymore! There are a lot of other series who kept the generational change by years: Beyblade, Precure, JoJo, Dragon Quest, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Xenoblade, etc and it was the time to do so also for pokemon (except games and manga)

I'm sorry but how does Liko surpass ash? she has a worse battle record then he does in both of their first journey's and are we going to forget that ash not only defeated a couple of legendry's with basic mon's but also has a meltan one of the rarest pokemon in the franchise? in fact to this day you can't even really get one as easily as terapogos. Liko getting a legendary just makes her a bit stronger but as a trainer? I feel she still has a ways to go honestly think her getting terapogos means she won't be around as the main protagonist for very long I think this series has a most a year left

Liko has proven herself to be a worthy successor to Ash with this. Plus she’s done more in such a short time that took Ash years. I feel keeping Ash 10 made him stagnant. He should have been at least 19 maybe 20 by the time his journey ended.
Ash has been trash since Gen 2 it took him six generations to learn how to properly trained his Pokemon I'll never forget how bro lost to a brand new trainer with his level 100 Pikachu or when he lost to a special ed trainer who didn't know how many Pokemon he had that boy been fodder so if Horizons is creating a proper characters with a good story I'm all there for it and we'll watch it eventually. I doubt any of those characters will be as peak as Brock though. That's the real OG of Pokemon.
