good vid mate for a shallow crossing, and walking the rivers or creeks in north Australia not recommended snapping handbags live here, but your right, loss of traction due to a heavy foot not the go. slow and steady if your wheel spin slower even still, don't panic an floor it, it will do you no good. we consider windscreen level as a deep water crossing
+itll doo "snapping handbags." Good one! We get them too. The funny thing is, some 4x4 hire companies will not pay out insurance (if engine damage results) if a water crossing is not walked first. And in some areas the handbags will get you!
Great video, good advice at the end there too. Not sure how easy it would be to remove the glow plugs on my 2.4 tdci defender! :/ luckily the air intake is pretty high, high enough that you get a wet bum before getting into trouble! That G-Wagen is very impressive for that application too, clever to put drain holes in the floor!
the use of a fishing rod or other long pole, with a marked rope and heavy weight attached will help judge depth and put some grease on the weight and some of the bottom will come back to show what is there. one way to escape the snapping handbags.
With regards to expelling water from a flooded engine - how would you go about it if the vehicle had a automatic transmission ( will the shift lever physically engage the transmission without electrics running ) , or if it was a Diesel engine with no glow plugs eg. Toyota 1HD ?
What happens to the transmission in deep water? What if the clutch is depressed to change a gear while in deep water? Will the water get into the clutch housing and then through it into the gearbox?
One thing I have to do to my Jeep JK is remove the damn carpets for times like these. Thank goodness for those drain plugs! And yes your right only a handfull of vehicles are made for these sort of off roading. Seen a few toyota hiluxs and such here in australia and they absolutely stink to high heaven of muddy water because they have taken on water and that smell never goes away..
Hi. What would be the best solution if the vehicle is an automatic and permanent 4 wheel drive... I own the the vw amarok... hasn't been near water thank goodness..m was just wondering what would need to be done
"Put it all together again and you'll be able to drive off without damage." Except for the damage that will be caused by the water that is now down in the motor oil, transmission, differentials, and electrical contacts.
Hi! I'm looking for an offroad car and I was wondering if any of these are good for that. I would drive mostly in a mud and wet soil, mostly in forest. My vehicles are: Nissan terrano II 2000-2005, Nissan patrol 1982-1990, Jeep cherokee 1989-1995. Which one is better, if any? Any suggestions?
Rule no 2 ,check what the bottom of said river is (It could be 3ft of silt then you are f___ked ) and it doesn't matter what you are in ,unless it's a boat !.
so this video is educating the masses on how to drive deep water. Right so were going to take mums honda steam soccer van and were going to just drive into the river..... what a joke..... you need a snorkel for 1 .. 2 a workinig 4x4 system.. 3 a 4wd with height clearence 10 out 10 for darwin awards

Rule number 1! Always check the depth before crossing!

maestro idolo!!!, he visto todos tus videos, gracias por tus enseñanzas!!!
None of these vehicles have snorkels?
Fancy getting the Defender stuck!! I am surprised at you Andrew!!

Great video. I hate when water enters my fog lamps. There are drain holes but it's the sediment left behind.

Great advise, thank you!
Thank you very much! and great advices!
How often you grease the front axels?? Awesome video.

Could you do a video of what to do when bogged down in extreme water
I already did. Years ago, with an Isuzu.
I'll be sure to check it out mate

Except for the damage that will be caused by the water that is now down in the motor oil, transmission, differentials, and electrical contacts.
Great video ! Did you lock the diff or engage any lower gear before crossing ?
Rear locker engaged when going in a straight line. Low ratio, first and second gear.

nissan patrol for sure, reliable and plenty of aftermarket gear
QLDPATTERSON Thanks a lot! ^-^
I would also take the patrol. cheap one if you need any modifications etc.
I drove a patrol through the worse roads found approaching the Darien jungle. Never had an issue with it.

Huh?
G-Wagon :-))) lol
You need a Jeep. LOL proven how ineffective.
Eric Miller a Jeep? vs a G class? lol the merc is so much better at offroading
