That's pretty much how the Greeks felt, honestly. They were more scared of Zeus than adorers. In fact, that was pretty much how they felt about the vast majority of their pantheon (and how ancient peoples pretty much felt in general). The ancients worshiped their gods not to win their favor so much as to avoid their wrath.
I'm curious if Zeus being disguised as a bird to impregnate someone is the source of the stork story that parents tell their children are where babies come from.

"His sister, Hestia, would tend to the ever burning hearth fire in the center of his grand hall, which, unless I'm missing something, is a pretty lame job for a goddess to have." Yeah, Jon, you missed something. That ever burning hearth fire was the fire that kept all fires in the homes of the mortals that warmed them and cooked their food. If this fire ever went out, mankind would parish. Okay, yeah, the person poking a stick at a fire does seem lame for a goddess, but would you want Jane-Nobody watching over the fire of life for mankind? She also had another important job, (at least as far as the Gods were concerned, and more suitable for the stature of a Goddess,) Hestia was responsible for presiding over every and all sacrifices. So, if you were sacrificing a few oxen for Zeus's birthday, you had better hope Hestia was attending the party, otherwise Zeus isn't getting his sacrifice, and we know how that can ruin someone's day (or life.)
So she guards the thing that the "gods" punished a titan for stealing and giving to humans, the thing that if the "gods" had their way humans would not have... yeah an oh so important job. There is also the fact that it would be pointless if on of those "gods" wasn't such a complete pansy and didn't morn for half a year just because she can't go see her daughter, so again really useful job.
@@lilchristuten7568 not quite sure where you where going with your comment, but I do think a couple of things should be made clear. 1. Fire existed before mankind and was around at the dawn of man's birth, however fire was to mankind as fire is to animals today. Prometheus stole the secrets of fire to give to mankind, giving mortals the ability to utilize fire. 2. The Goddess Demeter only mourns three months of the year... equal to the amount of pomegranate seeds her daughter, Persephone, ate from the fruit given to her by Hades. 😉
@@skyden24195 If mankind couldn't utilize fire (like animals can't as you said) then they couldn't make build fires to keep them warm at night and in the cold months and therefore that ever-burning fire is useless, so, again if the "gods" had their way her job would be useless.
@@lilchristuten7568 no, you misunderstood. Hestia was in charge of the hearth AFTER mankind learned how to create and utilize fire. There would not be a hearth for her to tend to until then. Hestia's job(s) seem to more or less come into existence as mankind began to become "intelligent" more or less. Take her job of residing over sacrifices, until humans understood the concept of sacrifices to the Gods, Hestia would not have had that job. It does really seem, in the Greek mythos, that Hestia is a very reserved and humble Goddess, especially compared to the rest of the Gods in general. All the rest are always shown to be hot tempered, violent, vengeful, often lustful. I'll admit, the first time I had heard of Hestia, she was over all described as "staying out of the limelight." Most religious acknowledgment of her was in the form of small statuettes and/or alters in the homes of the Greeks. Hestia was indeed the Goddess of the Hearth. The Hearth was the central feature of the home. It was where the family derived warmth and where the family’s meals were prepared. As the Goddess of the Hearth, Hestia was thought to be the Goddess who maintained peace in the home and when She looked upon you favorable, good fortune would flow into your dwelling.

Hey Jon! I have a few ideas for you! I’m like super super into mythology of all backgrounds and while learning about the different myths I’ve discovered some parallels in fables and fairytales. For example in the Greek myth of Helen of Troy the APPLE thrown says “for the most beautiful”, some translations said “for the fairest of them all”. Another one from Norse mythology. Not sure the exact name of the myth but look up “Thor looses his hammer” but it has some parallels with red riding-hood. You should look into it, it’s super interesting
You should have mentioned the story about when he went to go kill Hypnos for trying to put him to sleep, then he flew to the only place he could go…the Tartarus Cave [a.k.a. Where his mother Nyx(a.k.a. Goddess of the Night) lives] and Zeus stopped pursuing Hypnos because he was actually AFRAID of Nyx because she is older and possibly more powerful then

I've been looking for a comment about how you can get manscape sent down under. Now I'm just smirking 😏 thinking of stupid jokes.
"With their powers combined" immediately made me think, "I am Captain Planet!" ...I was a 90's kid.
Zeus was perseus father(by turning into a golden shower to impregnate dandae) Than perseus had a daughter elctryon whom had alcmene that zeus got pregnant and had Hercules. So zeus wasn't just Hercules father but also his great great grandfather
The f***
@@abin5603 perseus is Hercules's great grandfarther and perseus's farther is zeus
@@abin5603 well that's greek mythology for you
Hestia was indeed the Goddess of the Hearth. The Hearth was the central feature of the home. It was where the family derived warmth and where the family’s meals were prepared. As the Goddess of the Hearth, Hestia was thought to be the Goddess who maintained peace in the home and when She looked upon you favorable, good fortune would flow into your dwelling.
*sees the title and subject*
Me: oh youll have to make like at least 5 more episodes to capture all of his shenanigans
john, ive watch a lot of your videos, but never liked or commented. That "by the pubes of zeuse" bit made me cry. you're the best!
16:18 in the world of mythologies everything is possible and sometimes complicated. Hey Jon i got a question, are going to messed up origins of various gods and goddesses from Hindu and Norse myths in the future?
Nice job dude! I love Greek mythology. The best was the giant book compared to the skinny without Zeus sleeping around. Good stuff.
Solo, the hundred handers and cyclops were BROTHERS to Kronos, not sons. And Disney Hades said it to the titans
Man, the youtube channels you find during a pandemic. Subscribed to this channel weeks ago and I have not been disappointed by it.
I swear Zeus loves to disguise as other things and get Mortal women pregnant and in trouble🤷🏾♀
We need a whole series on the loves of Zeus!
I love Zeus. I hope to see a live video showing your decent into madness talking about the family linage of the Greek Gods.
Yes ! Gunthers back! 🐶Such a cutie! But great video and I have so many questions? What? Zeus is a very complicated being! It’s amazing how you can keep it all straight ! I had to pause and review your previous creation video; you did a while back to kinda follow the logic😂 looking forward to seeing the next video! Lots of love xoxo 🤟
Once again smacked it out of the park solo standing home run💥
Best ad for Manscape on youtube
Yessir The Video is finally out(Whoever sees this comment i hope u have a bless and successful life)
same goes out to you, kind one
You too😇
I'm his son hahaha that's my dad
You too, kind one.
Thank you 😊 and you too
I don’t have any messed up origins, that’s for sure
He did a good job of not going over old things and teaching us new things 👍🏾good video
I guess I'm a ten year old boy on the inside, but I kept laughing when he said bAlLs 👁👄👁
I'm slightly disturbed by how fitting the sponsor for this video is for the video
You should have mentioned the story about when he went to go kill Hypnos for trying to put him to sleep, then he flew to the only place he could go…the Tartarus Cave [a.k.a. Where his mother Nyx(a.k.a. Goddess of the Night) lives] and Zeus stopped pursuing Hypnos because he was actually AFRAID of Nyx because she is older and possibly more powerful then
You should do the Juniper tree. Its wild glory and SUPER messed up!
Zeus the quagmire of the greek mythology
giggidy! LOL
GIGGIGIGGITY GOOOOUOUO
@@MarCamus 🤔
This has to be my favourite RUclips channel.
I love these mythology video’s ESPECIALLY this one on Zeus showing how he was as a father, husband and ruler (terrible at all three)
Just some small notes:
- the cyclopses and hecatoncheires where Kronoses brothers not Zeus’s
- Hermes was Zeus’s messenger
- iris was hera’s messenger
Just some comments from a mythology nerd
LOVE this series and every other messed up series keep up the great work
PLEASE do Artemis she is one of my favorite Greek goddesses 😁
and cant wait for you to break down Zeus even more
Zeus always thought with the wrong head…I’ll see myself out.
The day Disney does a remake of this movie is when it'll be too soon
Cackling bc of the sponsor and shortly after talking about Zeus cutting Kronos’ ⚽️🏀 just 💀💀💀
I just love you as somebody that took ancient civilizations and mythology has a college course you are great and I mean I was just so absorbed it was my favorite class so absorbed I know there was history there there's history behind everything they say but you know just the story time of it all it's so great and I love you for it I watch you every time I can you are wonderful
love the content, Im in a mythology class this semester where we study all these different myths from around the world and compare the cultures
i was literally rewatching old videos a while ago.😂🕺
I'm so happy right now. That has been the funniest RUclips ad I've heard in ages!
Cronos overthrew his father for power
Zeus overthrew Cronos for power
Kratos killed Zeus out of vengeance
Atreus... uh...
God overthrew Zeus for power
Kratos: "Don't even think about it boy."
Can you do the origins of the Norse gods like Loki, Thor, Odin, etc?
