Amazing! Followed your VR tutorials and now this AR tutorial. This new technology is very exciting. Video tutorials are the best way to learn imo. Thank you so much for these!
Great tutorial, will use it as a base to start playing with this markerless approach, thanks for sharing. Although one flaw is that as it does not know about the surroundings if you open the app in a room/area with obstacles the ships fly through them. Might see how this works with the Structure Sensor
Hey Mathew! thank you so much for this tutorial! i'm having some trouble and i'm hoping you can help me. I'm halfway thu the tutorial, xcode builds out just fine, with no errors (on an iphone 8 btw ) but i can't see the spaceship anywhere. When the app opens.. i get a request to use the camera but when the camera turns on there is no spaceship to be found. any idea what i am doing wrong or why the space ship is hidden?
MatthewHallberg Nah you're good. There's is so much to learn. My problem is that I try to learn too many things at once. I need to get past that somehow
dude...story of my life. I want to know everything, and I get jealous when people know something I don't, it's the worst. It leads my down a path of knowing only a little about a lot of different things which isn't very conducive to making money. It seems the people that make the most money are experts in a very specific field, so it's not looking too good for my financial future lol.
MatthewHallberg There's nothing wrong with being a Renaissance man. I'm a true beginner in all of this, I like to dabble in a lot of things. And right now, this is what I want to learn---your videos are EVERYTHING. Thank you
Hi Matthew - Great tutorial and I'm loving your videos so far they're really fun and great learning tools. Following this tutorial, I find that when I deploy to my Galaxy S8+, my surroundings come out great and I can see around me. Not the best picture but it works. My problem is that the ship / models don't show up on the phone? It does on my Mac, but not when I deploy to the phone. Everything else is working fine. Any fixes for this? I scanned the comments but no joy! :(
Need help. Only one spaceship is coming on the screen and after I shoot it down, no other spaceship is coming on the game screen . Kindly help with the solution
Appreciated work Mathew, could you please make a video to make an object changes color by simply selecting colors from a drawer/sidebar of application, thanks
Good question, I don't think we can easily. The project would need some time of image processing. I do plan to experiment with openCV here soon, so that might be the answer. Even so, we would probably not be able to do buttons without some type of image or marker.
Just nailed it MatthewHallberg, thanks a lot and please continue the great work. And a small doubt, can you please give more clarity regarding the plane co-ordinates that are to be used for Andriod, I have tried a few but my camera view is always inverted.
Thanks dude. I am not 100% sure because I don't have a good Android phone right now but you should just be able to rotate and flip that texture until it looks right when you build out. I don't know what coordinates for sure so you will probably just have to try a few different orientations.
Well, it doesn't work. I can see the camera texture but there are no enemies around the camera. SOLVED - My phone doesn't have gyroscope. It works on phones with gyro
my android 6 phone supports Gyroscope, I wonder that this doesn't work. why? cuz no error report during building, the game opens well on my phone, but I can't move my camera with gyroscope. help please
Greatly appreciate you Matthew! You've helped me learn a lot and I can only wish the best for you and bow my hat to you for sharing your knowledge with others.
Hi Matt, Thanks for the tutorial. I am encountering one issue tho. When I rotate my device/camera, the spacecraft or even a static object looks like orbiting itself. It looks like theres a relation with the camera probly? Or the gyro function are behaving weird? Thanks again for the tutorials.
No problem, but yeah it doesn't work great. I went over doing this in type of markerless AR in Vuforia in my latest video so you could try to replicate this using those techniques. Might work a little better depending on the phone you are using.
Hi, How can I open a website URL from an image marker using ARCore in Unity? I am trying to build an AR app using ARCore in Unity. I have ten images and ten url links to websites, I need to link the ten images with those ten url links. When I scan the image with the phone's camera, I want the URL to open directly. I've done image tracking with video before, but now I want to do image tracking linking to a URL. Do you know any tutorial to follow it? Thank you!
Hi !! Your videos are amazing and easy to understand. Thank you so much !!! :D However I have a question, would it be possible to move towards the object by getting the camera closer to it ? My camera works in the x and y - axis.
+Austino Davis yeah I actually stupidly moved the object in the code when I should have just moved the player lol. I should probably just redo this video, I probably will at some point soon.
The video is really fantastic. I got one query..everything is working fine except that when playing it on android phone I can see environment through device only if i tilt the camera down and at times side ways ..if I tilt the camera up then it shows complete black ......though Spaceships can be seen. Please help....(Struggling to fix it.)
Thanks for the tutorial, and I want to ask something.... I build this project on android, I've already change the -90 rotation into 90 but the result still upside down, can you help me fix this ?

Hi thanks for the tutorial, I learned so much with this. I'm new to unity tho . can I ask if where should I put the script if I want to put a healthbar? should I insert it in the Main Camera?

Nice tutorial, but I'm facing quite a few problems with unity. After writing code for update in webCamScript and playing ,nothing is displayed on camera and on clicking on scene I see my plane turned back to 0 degrees and when i stop the playing ,it reverts back. Please help me out with this ...
id like to have more of this tut : starting from scratch. In the end you were going so fast i had to pause the video a lot of times but really nice vid man
Awesome! But for some reason its not working on my android phone. It works fine on unity but when played on my phone there is this grey screen all the time
why u have created cube, our ship is no longer inside that boundary......... Could u have me out for creating virtual scroll bar as u have one tutorial virtual button. And this tutorial is my favorite one really.. thanks for that... please keep upload such kind of videos.
Thanks, but if the ship is no longer inside the cube just drag it until it is. I am not sure a virtual scroll bar is possible as of right now, at least with Vuforia but I will keep it in mind!
Nice work, reminds me of my pre cardboard ios sdk days! if only meta didn't get bought by apple. Kudan's production licences are soooo expensive. Question, have you explored AR toolkit for Unity? They claim they can do markerless tracking, which i'm assuming is 6dof but I have not tried it out yet. artoolkit.org/documentation/doku.php?id=3_Marker_Training:marker_nft_fiducial_markers
No actually I have not yet. Everyone always asked me that but I was under the impression you needed to use markers so I never looked into because Vuforia works so well. Dude keeps these links coming. I don't no how I missed that. Definitely experimenting with that this weekend.
6dof is an industry acronym for 6 degrees of freedom also know as motion tracking, versus 3dof which is just gyro tracking. It's used to differentiate the levels of immersion. but yah it's pretty apparent at least the high end ios device will have some sort of stereo/depth tracking system next year. That plus many more full tango+ android motion tracking devices next year will make the mobile ar/vr scene very great. Can't wait.
Ohh I get it, I am used to seeing dof in terms of robotic arms but never heard of it in the context of VR thats really interesting. I can't wait for that though, with the addition of depth sensors AR and VR is going to go crazy.
hi,i'm building shooting game and ur video is really nice and helped me lot..how can i get the image that is clicked as user defined target..i mean Getting the image used for a UserDefinedTarget ....i'm making AR game with vuforia package.

webcam works completely fine in my unity editor but whenever i build it for my android phone only black screens appear and a moving ship (of course) . Anyone any idea?
will it not work on android? I tried upto the enemy ship placing in AR. After building to android, the camera is not rotating. it is stable. I can't see the ship. Can you help me?
Hi, very good tutorial, well explained but I tried to do it and I got the expected results in Unity, however when I build & run in my android device, the space ship doesn't appear, any idea on what is going wrong?
Hey! First of all thank you for the video, because it's easy to follow and well understandable! On the other hand I can't use my webcam (first step). Somehow I'm able to set it on, I don't see the anything in my monitor. I do the same like you, I copied the script from your website, I set the same position for the Main Camera and for the Plane. Unity says an error: NullReferenceException: Object reference set to an instance of an object. I don't really no, what does it mean. And suddenly you get a Plane after 3.29 minutes in the video and I don't really understand how and why? The AR Camera Assets work fine on my computer so I have the necessary drivers and stuff between Unity and the Webcam. (I have a Mac with OSX High Sierra and Unity 2017.3.0f3.) I hope, you can help me. Thanks in advance.
Can you update this for 2019?
Matthew,
This is a very nice tutorial. You made it so easy to follow and fun.
