Any theory or experience on 'high shipping cost' strategy in cheap auction starting prices? to cover the COGs, fees, and shipping costs, then the 'auction amount' is 'profit' number??

eBay sure hates it when sellers do this. eBay fought it for a long time, but then eBay changed its policy to charge selling fees on the item's final price AND all shipping and handling charges. Used to, eBay only got paid on a low-priced item when the seller would make up the profit in extra-high ship costs. At least eBay gets its full fee now, although punishing all sellers for the few who jacked up the ship prices seems wrong to me.
Personally, I'd never do this. Bidders won't like it if they see it before they bid and are less likely to bid. Because if the bidding rises too much and they win, their extra-high shipping charges will be added to their final bid.
But it's worse if bidders don't notice the high shipping fees when they bid and end up winning the item. When they check out to pay and see the sky-high fees, they might very well cancel the sale and/or leave negative feedback about the high fees added along the lines of, "... when it only cost $6.47 to ship!"
Your comps always tell the tale. As the video explains, if your item sells a lot then you can start at much lower bids and expect lots of bidders. If your item has tons of competition (think iPhone cell phone case), then you almost certainly should do a Buy It Now listing and forgo the auction.
The real answer @foghornleg90 is I want you to learn more and more about what sells how to find those items cheap, such as garage sale and flea market finds. We will cover sourcing a lot more on this channel and in the FB group, although we've already got a few sourcing videos posted. This way, your buy cost is SO low, profit is super-simple to make on almost every sale. Then, you charge Calculated shipping only to stay competitive with perhaps a 50- or 75-cent Handling fee added to your shipping policy (eBay offers a place for this) to cover your box, tape, dunnage, and so on.
How many great deals you find at a garage sale or thrift store is directly proportional to the amount of knowledge you have about what you can resell on eBay. Stay tuned, you're going to learn a LOT here that will make you a ton of dough.

So much great info in this one from the rationale of choosing between auction and BIN for specific items, how to determine the number of days for an auction listing, how to choose which day of the week to start an auction, and the actual time of day to start an auction-- ALL important aspects for a successful auction! And, "Scheduled" listing, for the WIN! Thanks also for the shout out to @TheAntiqueNomad, will check him out.
