The whole defense looked slow and flat footed
I think special teams needs to be talked about. Washington kicked it to brown and williams 5 out of 7 kickoffs rather than a touchback for a reason. The Bengals didn’t return it past the 30 once. Not to mention giving up a 60 yard return to Ekeler to open the second half.
Burrow can overcome a lot like we saw with a shaky oline for basically his whole NFL career so far. But. No QB can overcome a terrible defense. Look at Jayden Daniels and LSU last season. He put up historic crazy numbers playing unstoppable and they still lost 3 games because their D sucked. Cincy's defense doesn't have to be elite they just have to be competent and they can win ball games if Burrow and the offense is indeed finding their groove. And really none of this matters if they keep losing guys to injuries. I'm still believin though

I'm not actually that confident in our ability to cover the grass. I'm pretty sure that if a QB threw to the grass, the grass is making that catch and none of our guys will be anywhere near it. Also the refs will call PI on some Bengals DB on the play regardless.

We been losing so many players on defense and it’s catching up to us. The guys we been drafting aren’t cutting it on defense.

Cincy loses a game because of a defensive meltdown and now problems permeate every aspect of the team/organization? BS. This happens to every team in NFL when at least expected. It's football. It's being humans.
Lou chose the wrong approach. He put his players into position waiting on the plays to come to them. He should have blitz much more to get Daniels out of his comfort zone. He's to worried about the defense giving up big plays. The latter would be better because less time is taken off the clock and the offense doesn't have to play keep up with the Jones. One punt and we are singing a different tune. The players were put into a position to fail because we wanted to wait for a rookie QB to mistakes instead forcing him to make mistakes. It didn't happen.
ZT and Lou need to trust the players to do the right thing and not fail. Let the players play football and call plays the best fit the situations. We do not need to tear down anything.

Things weren't any different under Marvin Lewis so I don't think just changing the HC will be of any significance. There's something structural or higher up that needs to change.
Too many common threads from the Marvin Lewis era into the Zac Taylor era. Slow starts, playing up or down to opponents depending on competition, playcalling predictability and malaise. No need for a crystal ball when it's patterned behavior.

The Commanders went to his side with short passes over and over again. Cliff is no head coach but he is a helluva OC. He found the weakness and exploited it. .
