Apple Vision Pro is pretty futuristic and cool. But why does it exist? Is Apple pushing tech a little too far?

I don’t think we need to answer why, right now. Very interesting conversation. 48 hours in, the why for me has been the opposite. I can focus more. I want less multitasking. Having a device that is capable of these things makes me want less stuff. Also, I see it as a tool. Pick it up and use it and then put it back down. The battery life being 2-3hrs is good for our health lol.

Ah interesting perspective 👌🏼 and cool that you’re able to focus more w it. I think it would have the opposite effect on me - too much stimuli everywhere, and layers on top of visual IRL reality kinda seems like visual overload to me usually

🔷my take is that Steve Jobs would have never approved that clunky looking Vision pro with a battery pack attached. I am conflicted as I never want to be that guy that refuses a new technology, at 62 years old, I drive a Tesla (my 2nd one) and try to understand each new thing that comes out. I won't rush out and buy it and lately, I have gotten into watches, mechanical watches, the kind that you can wind up. I love the ticking. I spend most of my day in front of my computer for work. and I guess it would be cool to have goggles that I could walk around my house and still work. but not those, they just look too clunky.. maybe version 3 or 4 will be better. Agreed, it feels like another product that Steve Jobs would've abhorred. I think the thing that bothers me about it is related to what you said about walking around the house and still work - while that could be incredibly useful, having even less separation from attention-grabbing tech in our already oversaturated periphery feels very claustrophobic to me. I'm sure the tech in it is incredible, but I can barely stand even using all my 348957 apple devices as is lol

I've been watching all the videos, and this looks really cool. This isn't just another VR-AR headset. This is a whole new level. The descriptions are all superlatives.
I've seen videos of people taking these outside and I don't get it. Sure, on a bus, or subway, or plane it might be nice to shut everyone else out and just do work without people watching over your shoulder, but my sister agrees with you. She just sees this as another way for us to isolate ourselves from each other.
I can't imagine using this anywhere except alone on the couch.
I also wear glasses, so I balk at the need for corrective lenses that would have to be replaced if my prescription changes.
To me, it looks like a really fancy iPad. I'll just save the money and get a new iPad. I already have a large-screen TV.
I've always been fascinated with 3-D.
And yes, adjusted for inflation, this costs half as much as the original Macintosh cost in 1984. But I didn't buy one of those then either.
We'll just have to see what the early adopters learn about what makes sense and what doesn't.

Excellent points, and it really does feel like the beginning of a new level of wearable tech. A portal has opened. Not sure I'm wanting to dip my feet into that world tho. The tangible world is already too much lol....but maybe that's what will draw a lot of people to it? The temporary virtual abyss/fantasy realm. 🧐

Apple being more 'woke' is not a good thing, it like all others should be neutral especially when they are curating our experiences in such close and invasive way. 🔷

Good point. Big tech companies dictating our past, present, and future is sometimes incredible, with a side order of creepiness. Did we really ask for computer goggles which put even more reality on top of IRL reality? 🧐 how much more stimulation/distraction does the human race really need tbh
