This whole album is so good. Another band to check out from this era is Brand New.
Definitely
What Brand New song would he want to do? I would go with the whole catalog, but he's just one man. Mebbe Jesus Christ? Or Mebbe like Play crack the sky? Oooh Mebbe 131 there's a bunch of things that he can do from Brand New
@Jerm how about seventy time 7, since that song was directed at taking back sunday. That song has some strong lyrics, and has a great build up
Failure By Design, Seventy Times 7, Jude Law and a Semester Abroad
Definitely showing season or degausser.
“If I’m just bad news, then you’re a liar”
From my prospective growing up right in the middle of this scene, this was one of my favorite eras of emo and right at the beginning of the true height of its popularity. Emo started in a couple of places in the early (some say earlier) and really formed as a genre in the mid 90s. It started to explode when really excellent song writers who were also very charismatic got into the scene like My Chemical Romance, Blink-182, Fallout Boy, Taking back Sunday, Underoath, etc. they and many others charted and and gold and platinum hits. This was a huggge genre that melded with pop, butt rock, punk, hardcore, and metal in some cases. For the best early band imho is Thursday, I’d check out “Signals over the Air”
If you want to see how this evolved as a scene i, check out
Saosin “7 years” then
Silverstein “Smile in Your sleep”, then
Senses Fail “Bite to Break Skin”
From First to Last (lead singer is Skrillex)
“Note to Self”
Chiodos “The Words ‘best friend’ become redefined”
Escape the Fate- situations
Paramore “Misery Business”
My chemical Romance “Helena”, “I’m not Oaky”, “Ghost of You”, “Welcome to the Black Parade”
The Used “the Taste of Ink”
For poppier Emo
Motion City Soundtrack “Tell me that it’s Alright”
Most emo fans got into metal, metalcore, hardcore, etc and most of the harder emo bands went with them, the others started experimenting and went to pop, indie rock, electronic, or anything else
I’d pay you to listen to some of them but I just lost my job 😅
You’re exactly right about the school break up thing. I remember crying to “Emily” by From First to Last after my first middle school break up 😂
Great reaction and thanks for checking out the music that defined and made a home for a lot of us sad kids
❤❤❤
not taking anything away from the bands you listed, but you’re missing like 15 years of earlier emo there. bands like rites of spring, embrace, and turning point were doing emo in the mid 80s to early 90s. fun fact: thursday actually named themselves after a turning point song. the term emo was coined at that time (emotional hardcore -> emocore -> emo) and it was a full fledged genre by the mid-90s. bands like sunny day real estate, jawbox, and jawbreaker (no relation) all experienced minor breakthroughs into the mainstream. there’s a lot of great stuff to dig into!
Recommend "this photograph is proof", "set phasers to stun", or "cute without the e". This song is good, but doesn't really highlight how much their songs are duets.
Agreed.
pwhere you want to be is their best album and in my personal top 5 albums all time
So many underrated songs on that album, in my opinion.
Id agree but this song is a major classic.
My favorite band Taking back sunday Tell all your friends is a masterpiece
Fun fact: Flava Flav was in the official video for this.
What did I just witness? Never in a million years didn't expect this to pop up. 🤣
Taking Back Sunday and Brand New started an era. Cute With an E (cut from the team) and The Ballad of Sal Villanueva are both personal favorites. Brand New's 1st, 2nd and 3rd albums are great too. Great reaction to an untapped reaction genre. Thanks
The ballad of Sal villanueve is such an amazing song
The face he makes when that bass hits @ 7:10 during the outro is very relatable 😅
I wanted to see a reaction to this song to see if someone thinks the same way about it that I do…. Then I saw the “Be you… They’ll adjust” tag line on your intro.
Damn. Thank you pal.
One of the best emo songs of all time. This band is one of the greatest most iconic and most influential emo bands of all time and I’m still listening to them after 20 years
Favorite band, glad you watch
I remember when this album came to me. I was serving on a submarine and in port working 12 hour shifts in the freezing cold after months at sea. I’d blast this in my truck and get all my anger out.
You should do “cute without the e” or “you know how I do”
Man I really wish u would’ve done the video 😂 flava flave is in the whole thing
You picking up the Juice WRLD flavor here illustrates exactly why my 37yo ass loved that guy. This was my shit in high school and Juice just hit all those same notes and emotions. RIP.
Absolutely. I’ve always been more partial to 90s and 2000s rap and don’t get into much modern stuff, but as soon as I heard juice wrld it clicked for me. He was this new generations answer to emo music.
I stumbled on your videos almost by accident and I’ve really been enjoying it! I never had any interest in reaction videos but you changed my mind. It’s great to see someone checking out music that I have loved for years.
Dope reaction to this one man. Lovin the juice wrld comparison. He has been noted saying yellowcard and bands like this were big inspirations to him so ur right on the money
Damn. I feel old. I saw TBS when they opened up for Avril Lavine before they got big big.
Not a genre I ever gravitated too but I respect all music so it’s good to see new music on the channel as you continue your journey down the musical yellow brick road. 😊✌️
You do an awesome job at first impression reviews! Some people are very surface-level with first impressions just to turn them out and you put a lot of effort into these. Subscribed. Even more invested if you head down the indie rock road... 🖤
Motionless in white- thoughts and prayers👍🤘
It’d be interesting to see you react to Coheed and Cambria. Either The Pavilion, Welcome Home, or A Favor House Atlantic. All of their albums are concept albums that tell an epic sci-fi/space opera story. There are companion comic books that tell the story too
The suffering is awesome to
My favorite of theirs is probably This Photograph is Proof or Make Damn Sure.
Also yes this was totally 2002-2010ish era…. Blasted this in my high school car, windows down… on the iPod (connected through the cassette tape)
Emo is great bro, I would also recommend Alkaline Trio, Modest Mouse, Built to Spill, Alexisonfire, City & Colour, Death Cab for Cutie, AFI. It's a great and underappreciated genre.
Man I miss seeing alexisonfire live, they were amazing back in the day. One of my fav gigs ever was seeing them tour with moneen (another great Canadian band if people haven’t heard of them)
I wouldn't call modest mouse emo
@@paranoidandroid9979Thanks for the comment, and I agree that now MM doesn't necessarily fit that definition but when I showed them to friends in high school and college in the late 90's, they were considered Emo because there wasn't really another box to fit them into. This is probably why music shouldn't be labeled because the musicians themselves are pulling from so many different inspirations when they make their own music. I just hope that "indie, college rock, emo" etc. bands get more reactors viewing them and exposing more people to these great bands that never quite made it mainstream.
Hey man! Long time fan, old emo head here.
Emo has a ton of sub genres. One of them is called Math Rock, because emo tends to have some pretty complex stuff going on, musically - those switch ups you were talking about.
Where do the dono suggestions happen, the Patreon? Definitely have some suggestions if you want to see some of the Emo highlights!
love this album. You should check out more of their music, even if you dont do reaction videos for the other stuff.
Look up some videos from when we were young festival in las vegas. The used, paramore, sleeping with sirens. Story of the year... jimmy eat world.... We're some of my favorites at the festival. Crowds were huge at this festival.
This music video with Flava Flav was awesome lol
I've seen them 6 times live... awesome awesome live show. Check out A decade under the influence
So i jumped into this genre after it really came through (2000-2010), primarily because of peer pressure to "not be emo". So my enjoyment of these bands is truly organic.
As for your question is this genre still going on, they had a 3-day festival which only had bands from this era (and a few other more current bands) and every day was sold out within an hour or two called When We Were Young Festival.
you should check out:
Destroy Rebuild Destroy Until God Shows "Mr. Owl Ate My Metal Worm"
Silverstein "My Herone"
Hawthorn Heights "Ohio Is for Lovers"
My daughter is a vocalist in a band and she sings that kind of music
This was a fantastic album though Post punk emo is things like this and brand new
Traditional emo is less punk rock and more folk rock with similar emotional lyrics
Dashboard confessional is the most popular band of the emo genre check out "screaming infidelitys"
Either way I'm always glad to see you dip your toes into some new music and this reaction was awesome 😎
To understand the difference
As time passes everything gets lumped into a same group but really they're completely separate genres
What Brand New song would he want to do? I would go with the whole catalog, but he's just one man. Mebbe Jesus Christ? Or Mebbe like Play crack the sky? Oooh Mebbe 131 there's a bunch of things that he can do from Brand New
@@Jerm44905 I'd start where a large amount of the fan base started "sic Transit Gloria..."
It's the closest thing they have to a radio song and was on heavy rotation on fuse back in the day not to mention the video is brilliant
I wonder how polo would react to welcome to the black parade by my chemical romance to me they are the full package of emo. Especially the music video for it and Helena
They're a phenomenal group!
Definitely check out Brand New if you like these guys. Heads up each of their albums sound radically different though.
They are one of my favorite bands. They're not emo more so screamo.
Ooo if you’re looking to throw another TBS song in the mix you should check out Liar (It Takes One to Know One) but you gotta watch the music video with it! That song had me under a spell when I was younger 🤣
these were MY GUYS during high school and i have such a soft spot in my heart for them. they bring me back to a better time and i always smile in nostalgia 🥹🥲 1:34
I dont know how I missed this 2 weeks ago... I was 14 when TBS first came out and was an absolute emo kid. I've seen them at Warped Tour and I've seen them at the Virgin Megastore in Downtown Disney for the release of their 2nd album, still have both my signed copies of their first 2 albums. They really helped define emo in the early 2000s, although it was around for a while longer than that. Older emo doesnt have as much polish but theres still some really cool stuff in each era of emo. Im kind of glad you didn't react to the official video because it would've probably been a bit distracting since you would be surprised to see Flavor Flav in a genre like this but its a cool video you should check out anyway.
MakeDamnSure by them had some success on MTV when it came out, along with This Photograph Is Proof(I Know You Know) which was on the Spiderman 2 soundtrack. But instead of either of those I would suggest the song There's No I In Team.
A lot of bands from this era had a lead singer and a 2nd singer. Sometimes one did the clean vocals while the other did the screams/growls, sometimes they went back and forth but imo no one does it as well as TBS and Theres No I In Team does it so well.
I could write 50 more paragraphs about them but Im also gonna throw some more emo titles at you that all have something a little different going on, just in case you ever run out of picks. (One more thing about songs from this era.... it was kind of a badge of honor to have a ridiculous long song title, bonus points if it was a reference to some classic film or something like that)
Brand New - Sic Transit Gloria... Glory Fades
Thursday - Standing On The Edge of Summer
Underoath - Its Dangerous Business Walking Out Your Front Door
Finch - What It Is To Burn
Thrice - Under A Killing Moon
Saosin - Seven Years
The Used - Buried Myself Alive
Funeral For A Friend - Juneau
Armor For Sleep - Car Underwater
You should check out Chiodos and Circa Survive. Saw the latter live in probably ~07-08 or so. Anthony Green was a coked out madman, but Gawddamn that dudes got a voice on him. They broke every single one of their instruments The Who style at the end of their set lmao. My buddy caught the broken off headstock of Nick Beard’s bass lol. Also saw Coheed live and met Mike McColgan of Dropkick Murphy’s/Street Dogs fame, dude talked to us for like 15 minutes before the Street Dogs played. That was a hell of a day.
bro turned a 1MIN SONG into 10mins ,s thats game! respeck
This is THE song I first think of when when I hear the word ‘emo’
Alriiiight emo has entered the chat! Not enough people react to this genre IMO.
i was into emo for a while in the early 2000's. probably more of the screamo genre with albums like senses fail- let in enfold you, circa survive- juturna, thursday-war all the time, alexisonfire-debut album, and mewithoutyou- catch for us the foxes. some honorable mentions are the used-blue and yellow and emery-the question. TBS was more pop to my click and then the "scene" kids took over and i moved onto heavy metal lol. a punk band that went emo was AFI. from the boy who destroyed the world to the album sing the sorrow. if i could choose one for you to react to that isnt what i refer to as "emo pop", itd be Thursday - war all the time. it is not as cheerful sounding. for the pop stuff i think you would like AFI- miss murder or AFI-silver and cold. its all good though. even if you dont make a video, i think these are all worth listening to
Afi's Halloween album or black sails are where it's at
Everything from the great Golden baby is amazing 👏
Shoot, I think "This Photograph Is Proof" by Taking Back Sunday is really good, too
Imagine pausing the fkkkknnnngggg song at the most crescendo(aka the best!) part of the song! Jimminy Christmas dude!
You should check out Taking Back Sunday's - Set Phasers to Stun or A Decade Under the Influence
More emo!!! 🖤
i mean your kinda spot on with the time line, the almost blink but not, the juice world being inspired ect. check out this band and their first like 3 albums especially you wont regret it i promise you.
They had beef with Brand new cuz some chick was getting it by both singers
Never knew this omfg that’s hilarious
IF IM JUST BAD NEWS, THEN YOURE A LIAR (maybe I should hate you, for this) this song saved so many souls. Still a banger, imo their best song but yeah!
Isn't EMO short for emotion? This reminds me of Green Day!
Polo check out the comedian ISMO. He is hilarious!!!!!
More emo! TBS, MCR, etc.
Please do more emo.. its the best stuff out there!
Oh yeah Juice Wrld is the closest thing Ive been able to find that's modern day emo. RIP
Do you know anything about Calliope Mori, rapper and vtuber (a person who uses a anime avatar, not vocaloid)? She have many covers and original songs.
Here you can see her singong GODZILLA by Eminem, live, on oen of hers karaoke streams
ruclips.net/video/KT-2uH21VII/видео.html
Also, I can recomend Hoshimachi Suisei, Moona Hoshinova, Gawr Gura and many others really talentes vtuber singers
how about some talking heads?
sorry im just too distracted by the spinning thing from iron man 2
pop post-emo*
what a random band lol
Taking back Sunday is solid good! But try The Black Parade by My Chemical Romance, It's amazing.
Now this is real EMO not that fake Machine Gun Kelly emo which is just pop punk in goth clothing. Emo was purely about music not the look
Should have watched the video. Flavor flav lip syncs the whole track lol
There are way better emo songs out there imho.
That said, I prefer harder stuff. Some emo numetal for instance, like Linkin Park or Papa Roach.
If I’m just bad news…then your a liar

@Officialchrisklein
Emo in the day was just short for emotive hardcore. Midwest emo from the 90s was a lot more sad Boi shit 09 shit was more upbeat with more hardcore instrumentals
