Sara Bareilles - Live Vocal Range (C3-G5/B5-E6)

  • Sara's overall vocal range! I tried to use a wide variety of performances, ranging from a video of Sara in junior high school, to a scream she let out in an interview a few days ago.
    After completing the project I noticed that one of the flaws of this video is that I included mostly sustained notes (especially in the C#5 section). I'm aware that it may annoy some people, but I believe these are some of her most impressive moments as a vocalist.
    This is the hardest I've ever worked on a project. I must have listened to hundreds, if not a thousand performances over the past 10 months while doing homework/during my free time. Thanks for watching!

    The B5 doesn't sound mixed. She nice column of support from like F3/F#3-Eb5/E5, some of her F5s weren't all bad though. She struggles a bit with nasality and her vowel shaping, something that's been present her whole career but has gotten better. It just means her notes aren't always as open as they could be. But wow, A4-D5 is>>>

    • @PNWmusic
      @PNWmusic  7 лет назад +9

      MrSkinnyJeanz3 I always appreciate your comments, thank you! I agree, A4-D5 is my favorite part of her belting range.

    • @jaxthomas-delgrande5592
      @jaxthomas-delgrande5592 5 лет назад +2

      MrSkinnyJeanz3 what most people consider nasality is way to alleviate pressure off of the larynx. It allows the sound to be more ‘heady’ and whilst an overemphasis of this can be present in a lot of singers voices I don’t think hers is excessive. Just putting in my two cents. Please don’t get mad lol

    • @josivantorres2218
      @josivantorres2218 5 лет назад

      MrSkinnyJeanz3 the support is actually F3/F#3-E5 since she consistently supports E5.

    Her comfortable most resonated tones/notes are in Alto range imo. So by that she is an alto? But like her range is crazy! Her tone is more mezzo. So I'm confused haha.. She is so talented and I just love her!

    Interesting, in her book Sounds Like Me, (2015) she said the Eb in "Brave" is the very top of her register, but she's clearing singing above that.

    • @deyanncrete8030
      @deyanncrete8030 4 года назад +2

      I have this feeling that many singers underrate their actual potential and vocal ability and clearly Sara is guilty of that haha

    • @NaShea955
      @NaShea955 4 года назад +1

      SuperDerezzed could she possibly have meant the top of her supported register? cause I know just around there (Eb5-E5) is where she loses support

    • @williamriviere795
      @williamriviere795 4 года назад +2

      @@NaShea955 I don't think she loses support at Eb5-E5, it feels more like a change in registers. I think she went from chest to mix, or if she was already in a chest mix, she added more head voice, making it sound headier, lighter, but it's still a mix. It's better for the voice that trying to pull chest voice higher.
      But I would agree on the fact that since 7:55, it's exclamations, or singing for fun in what seems more like a masked head voice, not a mix.

      She'd definitely a mezzo with a very very good range. If she was a soprano she wouldn't go that low and even if she did it wouldn't be as supported and clear. Also she can go high but lacks great support above E5/F5 which is basically where a mezzo would naturally switch to head voice - passagio (this does not mean its impossible to go higher than that in chest voice as a mezzo, however it gets a little bit more tricky up there, comparing to a soprano). You can tell her comfort region is basically F3-E5 -A5 which is rougly where mezzo's typical range falls (A3-A5). Because she is a trained vocalist, she obviously can play with extremes very well and with years of experience she extended her vocal range to at least 3 octoves or more which is great. But yeah guys that's a mezzo.

      She supports something like F3/F#3-D5/Eb5, with resonance, consistently to me. She can get very tight on D5/Eb5 and higher, but the consistent support is still here. I'm still skeptical about some E5s and F5s.
