Hannibal is basically the Michael Jordan "and I took that personally" meme in real life.
@themoroccan1956 It Sounds Like It
Ah yes, Cannae, famous for immortalising the double envelopment tactic, shown in a video that has neither "double" nor "envelopment".
Because reality is far from being perfect. It was kinda envelopment, but not exactly. You can check the sources yourself. The only thing that isn't really accurate is the numbers.
It’s just bizarre that Rome lost this many people, and still won the war

Casualties really doesn't mean anything if a nation is determined to keep fighting
In those years Rome lost 4 major battles-Trebbia, Ticino, Trasimeno and Canne. The defeat at Cannae was the most devastating. Hannibal was a far superior general to the Romans, but he had a small army. His goal was to raise the Italic populations against Rome, but he failed. The reason was that Rome, when conquering other peoples, did not subdue them, but assimilated them. These became part of Rome on equal terms. The ruling classes of the defeated peoples became part of the Senate. For this reason, when Hannibal arrived, most of the Italic cities did not rebel against Rome but continued to fight alongside it. At that point, it was impossible for Hannibal, even if he won battles, to defeat Rome, and he remained for years in southern Italy unable to do anything.
One of those times when “I could’ve done it better” is actually applicable, Cannae legit looked like Rome purposefully let their little brother beat them so they didn’t cry to their mom
Lmao
"They are surrounding us, should we bring the troops from north who did nothing all the time?"
"...Nah we good"
I have two questions. 1. Why do you think that the Romans are dying faster than Hannibal's army warriors, if at least half of his warriors are Gauls with almost no armor? 2. According to some historians, the only Romans who survived were the actually ones in the very front, they were able to break through aforementioned Gauls and get out. Whoever remained on flanks and in the back died or were captured. This is what actually Hannibal used to his advantage. He knew that the Romans would push in the center and break it, and planned his tactics accordingly, sucking them in and then counter attacking on the flanks and rear.
all these googlemaps videos are bullshit

What’s up with the two Roman camps randomly out in the distance
The one detail this animation got right was those 2 Roman camps. Both Polybius & Livy attest that the Romans had 2 camps.
As for the famous “double envelopment”, there is no evidence of it here-a major mistake in researching this battle.
The roman army were under the comand of the TWO consuls, who couldn`t stand each other, and had oposing tactical views to such a degree that they decided that rather than cooperating the whole time, they would hold comand in alternative days.
Their two camps, were the camps of each consul and "his" troops......
@@jorgebarriosmur I knew that they couldn’t stand each other which was the case commonly. But it seems like a bit much for a camp
Very good! I'll be waiting anxious for the Trebia someday.
"Vincere scis, Hannibal, victoria uti nescis"
W video as always🔥
"yo those Romans got caught fr through bruh I thought they would win"☠️☠️☠️
Following Oversimplfieds trend? We love to see it!
The small clump of Romans on the outside read the wiki synopsis and took a pass.
Great!
That’s impressive 😧
Can you please do battle of masurian lakes. Would Much appreciate it

Another battle in the “Russia trying to purposefully lose WW1 for the Entente” collection
How come Mapsinanutshell did a Cannae video today too?
cool
It's crazy that it all happened within one day.
How you do the numbers of units like this?
can you make Russian civil war video please?
Nice
Carthage could have dealt a crippling blow here.
If only the carthaginian senate had supported him adequately
you dont just occupy land after walking through them, thats not how it works
the carthaginian front was actually dying way faster than the romans at the start, it was only hannibal that motivated the alive ones back to fight

That was called the great Ambush?
Cannae was not an ambush
No the battle of lake trasmiene was the great ambush not cannae
Hello
Ahhh it was the roman one , not the WW2 one .
This video is not accurate. At least it doesn’t match the historical accounts.
Why didn't the Romans just use that road nearby?
Maybe because it didn’t exist then. Im pretty sure cannae was literally a field when this took place

Hannibal is undoubtedly one of the greatest military geniuses in history.
Ну здрастуй я твій новий підписник зви мене жук
hmmm...
First of all the exact location of the battle has not been established to date
Second the army numbers (as well as the casualty numbers) claimed by , initially, Polybius (not a witness nor a contemporary) then by some others are highly suspect.
So this video is more like "an artist rendering of the cannae battle" than anything close to reality
