Good review. Hopefully it will not start leaking oil within the 1st 500 miles unlike my 890r. Having to pay for tech pack is a rip off also. Im glad I traded my 890r for a s1000r sport. Best decision ever

You don't have to pay for the tech pack. Its not a rip off. If you don't want it, don't pay, if you do, then pay. Make your mind up if the money is worth it to you.

@@Omar-kw5uiat the price that the bike is, it should come with those features included for no additional cost. That’s the whole problem people have and it is the only reasonable take.

@@SludgedB well if you think the bike is too expensive then don’t buy it. Vote with your wallet. If you end up buying it anyway at the price but moan that it’s too expensive, then it clearly wasn’t because there was no other competition that came at a lower price. That’s just a fact of business.

Hope the problems of the 890 have been sorted as this isn’t getting mentioned at all by any of the reviewers. I will remind you , engine oil leak, coolant leak , break disc warping resulting in break pulsing at low speed, the indicators coming on in wet weather on there own and not functioning on the tft.
If they have sorted these issues then sounds good .

Not true at all. We get paid by Bennetts to produce independent editorial content that you can trust in the hope that you'll have a warm feeling about Bennetts when your insurance is due. Chad is a freelance tester who works for us. Manufacturers invite Bennetts on the launch and we choose which tester we send. Chad, like all our test team is massively experienced and respected across the industry for his ability to asses a bike thoroughly and objectively. Road testing is harder than you might imagine in the same way as brain surgery is (probably) even harder than it looks. Just because he makes it look easy and enjoyable doesn't mean that anyone can do it. And if the bike he rides is a good bike, what's so bad about him saying that?

Nice one Chad. Thank you. I’ll be testing this one out for sure. For the roads it sounds like it’s in the Goldilocks zone, and $5k cheaper than the overcooked bigger brother that will only be a statement of the buyers, when only 0.0000001% of all riders will be able to push that one to its limits.

I’ve recent just started getting back into bikes and back when I was younger the 990 was considered the “superduke” man how times have changed. My last bike was a 690 Duke back then and I miss it a lot.

The fuelling got optimized by an experienced Pro and is now on a entirely different level - you could call it « day and night » from what it was out of the factory (in 2020 already "better" than in 2017) - from 5’000 rpm onwards it exactly follows the ideal 13,25 : 1 right to the cut-off point and makes max. power from 10’800-11’300 rpm 🏁
The CP3 red-lines in every gear at 11’500 rpm except in 6th gear.
At the racetrack, tucked behind a semi-high windshield, wearing tight (custom-made) full racing leathers and an aerodynamic AGV Pista RR helmet, I was able to see 249 Km/h in 5th.
In ideal conditions on the German Autobahn, 263 Km/h in 6th. Allow for a 8% deduction to get to GPS values.

excellent question as I've also been looking at both... the 890R is cheaper, lighter, same power/torque and has fancy Brembo Stylema, Ohlins suspension etc; the 990 does look more 'mature' and like a slightly smaller Super Duke, the 890R seems very narrow and supermoto style
