I've used my Verum 1 MK2 with three amplifiers. With two of them I confirm I have to boost the bass, but with a third one this is less of a need. I suspect this depends on the suitability of the headphone amplifier to work with such an unusually low impedance. Regarding the cable, also mine showed false contact issues after few weeks. But it was not on the connectors, or the soldering points, rather along the cable itself. I was planning to buy a 5 metres cable anyway, I got me a custom built one, it costed me almost one third of the cost of the headphones themselves 😅 Consider the provided cable a courtesy cable, and plan to buy a custom made quality cable.

I have had good results with the bluesound node-x, the headphone output of the PM-KI Ruby and the headphone output of the Technics SU-7700. Actually this last, a vintage integrated from 1977, is a very serious choice, because it is damn good looking, in silver, has tone controls (remember one tick more for the base) and it sounds fantastic. Vintage amplifier did not have dedicated headphone circuitry, they were simply using the speaker output with say a 300 ohm resistor in series to the headphone output. This kind of setup is well suited for a low impedance headphone like the Verum 1.

Goog one with the logical threadripping the semitech babble We all have now & then on the big chanels... I agree with U on the ultimate goal of getting as close to the original sound recorded as possible, but would argue that We all should wait for a product that gets things done right out of the box, never requiring any EQ (it's always a matter of some degree of knowledge about the software & keen hearing in order to make things right for an individual pair of ears + specific brain that interprets the incoming signals), because it makes the manufacturers push out good enough things never making them perfect, as the audiomumblers will make them work for themselves with EQ, while the broad public will buy them anyway never knowing the sound butts 🤕Keep up the mean work! 🤗!
The Verum's were a big surprise in that overall they compete with the Sundars while being less technical and clean by a meaningful amount. They're fun, engaging and highly enjoyable. I got mine about six months into the war and the build has several small issues and I assume missing the right screws etc, but whatever. Sound great, work flawlessly. Can't wait for the next model he brings out.
I remember his recommendation before I bought my verum 1's version 2. I agree something seemed off! They have become my go to headphones. In fact they are the exact styled version in this video. Voices sound so natural and their sound has nothing that actually draws attention to itself. I agree they aren't bass head headphone but neither am I a bass head. They look like something Davinci designed and headphones Conan uses. They actually now have the verum 2's that I will probably get at some point.
I commend you for holding no punches on Joshua Valour and Andrew Robinson. Many viewers feel these guys are omniscient. It's pretty obvious they're both getting kickbacks from manufacturers
That’s exactly the issue. I make no money on any links in my videos/descriptions. I’m not entirely sure about Valour, but Robinson, Cheapaudioman and Darko all make money from the manufacturers. At least Stereophile argues their reviewers are behind a wall separating sales from reviews.
@@athathsonty2925 This 100% this. The tiny difference is when Darko, Cheapman and Gutt and others get called on things, they at least exhibit a touch of shame.
Same driver, probably same sound signature. Biggest difference is the headband, and biggest sound-related difference are the thinner angled and perforated lambskin pads vs. the original deeper non-angled full-leather pads, but the differences from that are quite subtle according to measurements done by cskippy (IIRC) from SBAF.
Bought the aeon open x on your recommendation, they don't distort and the tuning is almost there, still a little sibilant to me and I can do with an even darker tilt. Incredible how reluctant "audiophile" brands have been to adopt harman, even the aeon have too much treble yet most youtube review darlings think these are "veiled".
Harman target for headphones is fine but it’s dogcrap for IEMs and we have the reverse problem in this space where every “decent” (mid) chifi iem tries its best to adhere to it despite the target being too shouty with little upper treble. Why Harman decided to create their own separate IE target and make it objectively worse? I will never understand

I'm not an audiophool, by no means. I wanted a review on verums because as a average consumer looking to replace my aging HD559s, the Verums seem cool. I have poor vision so audio quality in games and songs is important to make up for the deficiency, but I'm not into buying tons of equipment because the music I listen to is primarily metal, so for me if they can make "Tornado of souls" by Megadeth sound better than my HD559s, its worth it. Had to sub, this review/takedown was juicy. I think I'll buy the verums what is EQ?
Don't underestimate how good metal can sound on the right gear. Nice open warm-leaning headphones can make some albums sound massive. Albums like Rust In Peace tend to benefit from a speaker-like presentation.
@@AndrewIllingworth1 I’ve paired my Verum 1 with the iFi Zen DAC v2 (paid £179 at Richer Sounds) and they sound great with either balanced or unbalanced cables. Lot’s of power, clean as a whistle, warm, lush tones. Balanced offers more power on tap, not that you’ll need it.
hi, can you recommend what you think is the best headphone amp that fits Verum 1 at a price of $200-300? Or will I get, for example, just as good results but using the headphone output from a typical amplifier as Marantz PM6007 or CD6007? Are fans of neutral sound (not colored through media)
I realize this is an old video. Im just catching up to it today. A friend of mine sent me these to listen to for several months. I noted they were heavier than my Dan Clarks, but they didn't bother me. Headphones are like shoes - what one may find comfortable, another may find too tight or too loose.

Dear SA, you had better say these are terrible. Not because the chap who makes them is allegedly antisemitic, homophobic and prone to telling customers he hopes they get cancer. Actually they were great, but I needed a pair of PX8s for holiday purposes. Not entirely sure about the PX8s. Please review them so that I can decide if I like mine or not.
You will be disappointed in the review, I'm sorry. I learned a long time ago that many people do things we find terrible but still do great things. I couldn't imagine not watching 30 Rock with Tina Fey, because Alec Baldwin left a terrible voice mail for his daughter and may have committed manslaughter. The PX8's aren't on my review list yet, so you're not going to know if you like them or not for quite some time.
@@scientificaudiophile I was being facetious, of course. Developing, building and marketing these headphones was, by any standard, a remarkable achievement and deserves recognition. The Verum Headphones I received 3 months ago after 5 months of waiting are GREAT. I would buy more.
How many heads do you have that would warrant purchasing more? I have heard he's working on a new version. No release date yet.
You turned me to a diane bish devotee.
Nice nod to the disastrous state of academia SA. I imagine yourself having a Phd for sure!
Joshua Valor is a joke. I've had the Verum One mk2 for two years with no problems.
Great review, you almost made me buy the Verum 1 again 😅
Thank you very much for yours generosity. I will keep making honest video review.
You know, your round head does have alot of curves. Excellent vid.
Kickbacks or not, I despise JV and AR because they talk BS ; Humbug RUclips Reviewers.
@@athathsonty2925 This 100% this. The tiny difference is when Darko, Cheapman and Gutt and others get called on things, they at least exhibit a touch of shame.
@@rejean2744 Agreed.
This is the Verum one version 2. I don't know why they just didn't call it the verum 2
I know. Would have been smart marketing.
Glad you like the Aeon's.
Hey SA, good video as always!
I'm considering ordering the new Sennheiser HD490 Pro headphones, but it's a lot of money and I'm about to move... Maybe you are going to review them? ... so I can wait just a bit longer and not use the money until I've heard your review :)
Unfortunately they're not on my radar right now.
Don't buy them

@@scientificaudiophile Thanks I've already seen it, it's very good but rating is not a drink and food so it's hard do decifer.
@@sighheinrich I'm trying to get all reviewers to use the Infinite Rating Systems, but they seem reluctant, even though it is much better for consumer.
and iv never had any driver problems with any cheap koss headsets, only wear and tear of cables which is lifetime warranty. i have a 20 year old pair that still works fine.
I have had mine for 5 months with NO PROBLEMS.
I think I'll buy the verums
what is EQ?
Don't underestimate how good metal can sound on the right gear. Nice open warm-leaning headphones can make some albums sound massive. Albums like Rust In Peace tend to benefit from a speaker-like presentation.
Great review! Please could you recomend a wallet friendly DAC/amp for the Verum 1s? My budget is around £200/$200
I actually like the FIIO K11. Just play with the filters. They shouldn’t sound different but on mine they did.
I'll look into that one, thanks again!!@@scientificaudiophile
Get the Schitt MIDGARD ~$200
I realize this is an old video. Im just catching up to it today. A friend of mine sent me these to listen to for several months. I thought they sounded fantastic, but I found them to be very heavy and unwieldy on my head. I could not lean back in a chair without them being pushed off of my head. For that reason, I did not buy a pair.
I noted they were heavier than my Dan Clarks, but they didn't bother me. Headphones are like shoes - what one may find comfortable, another may find too tight or too loose.
That is fact no one can do a blind test and say expensive speaker cables nor other audio fancy cables , none cannot prove it.. many videos have people blindfold and half pick cheap and some pick higher priced and other couldn't hear dufference.. that is 100 pct fact..so I will never buy expensive fancy cables
Dear SA, you had better say these are terrible. Not because the chap who makes them is allegedly antisemitic, homophobic and prone to telling customers he hopes they get cancer. No. It's because I just sold mine and if you say they are great I will feel bad and deeply regret my decision, being entirely incapable of trusting my own experience without external validation.
My experience of them was that they had a feel of hairiness and a soundstage like no other headphone I have heard. The other stuff does get in the way, however, especially in terms of customer relations.
Ps. Autocorrect changed airiness to hairiness, but hairiness is funnier.
Nowadays, people can no longer express their lack of sympathy for jews, lgbt or muslims and such without being stigmatized.
Sad.
It's always funny to read about my antisemitism, considering I'm a jew :)
😂😅😂
Excellent review
Glad you liked it!
I would like to see the veen diagram, comparing steroid users and audiophiles Ironically, I think it’ll look like some cool, set headphones.
I must admit to a little dark pleasure in the laser eyes trolling of JV ha ha
You are abrasive and acidic…

_"... up until ... today ..."_
I use two Verums, an original and an mk 2
(I love both of them),
and the original can do (very rarely) such a thing
that it almost stops one of its sides.
It makes sound but only very subtle sound compared to
the normal state.
It can be "repaired" by cranking up and down the volume
a few times, then it comes alive again.
No, it's not an amp thing,
when it is "broken" temporarily, you can put it into any amp,
until you play that volume up/down thing with it.
It's a very rare phenomenon and
it appeared only with the original,
not with the mk 2.
But no complaints.
Verum rules.
Can you post your EQ settings.
@scientificaudiophile please.
I also just added them to the description:
80 Hz Gain 6.1 dB Q 0.70 Low Shelf
2200 Hz Gain 7.0 dB Q 2.8 Peak Filter
4000 Hz Gain 2.7 dB Q 3.2 Peak Filter
6500 Hz Gain 4.5 dB Q 4.0 Peak Filter

I just found you and will sub and checkout your reviews .
Thanks for the sub! But after you see my Passion for Sound video, I'll expect an unsub.
Thanks for the review!
My pleasure!
I noticed you stopped mentioning that you burned in your equipment for a few hundred hours. How is a man supposed to trust the word of a man that does not burn in his equipment with pink noise.
It's implied.
I mean, he did say he listened to a song for 600 hours, I think it's subtly implied there XD
@@ArtificialDjDAGX I do not get how music is pink noise. If you do not burn in your equipment with pink noise the drivers will be burned in uneven. Meaning you get some frequencies boosted and some attenuated depending on the music you listen to. This is audiophile knowleg 1O1

Fair and brutal. Very nice!
I have a pair of Verum ones. I'm thinking of getting a second pair before Ukraine gets invaded by Russia.
But where is the "scientific review" in this?
I've seen reviews (less than positive). using poor power sources or basic DAC's. No one can ever tell me something sucks if all you did was plug them into an AVR headphone jack.
Very true.
@@scientificaudiophile I forgot to mention the reason they claim this AVR test is legitimate: They interpret the specs as if 100mw should be more than enough, and often...it isn't. Even my Grado SR80 (open pads from 325's) sounded very different in a headphone jack vs an amp.
There's never enough power. Especially because they rate headphone amps the same as speaker amplifiers - usually inflated.
Thanks for debunking these lazy and unqualified reviewers.
Another banger from S.A.
You should do one about boring reviewers (Joshua is #1), no matter if they are honest reviewers
