- *UPDATE NOVEMBER 2023* - November will be the last month for pipe crate. The small business couldn’t sustain itself due to taxes, fees, etc. Sure, it was pricey, but he was making near zero margins for profit. In the end it wasn’t sustainable. Hate to see a small business in the pipe world go way of the dodo. That said, you can at least stick around to enjoy a little pipe smoking “history” now 🥲.

I subbed because I enjoyed your content and organization of your video. I watched his video. I understood what he stated. I made an educated decision that it was not a subscription that would be worth spending the money. I am an aromatic smoker and 8 months into this art and I have bought 70 tins and about 20 pipes inexpensive off ebay. I have really enjoyed my journey and I share it with all I know every day. But I have so many other tobaccos that interest me to try already, that I can buy them quicker then I can smoke them. In 3 or 4 years, I would be ready to support this box of new, because it will get me to test things I have questions on and I only have 1 Oz to give it a try. Just not ready yet!
I am surprised there are not more sub boxes for pipe tobacco, the service works well for the hobby, but this price is way to high. The whole idea behind these type of subs is to get good stuff that you may not try on your own at a good Value. I am a fan of these kind of boxes, I sub to 3 different cigar boxes every month. I may go ahead a swap one of those out to this box for a while, seeing that it is a new service, the more people that join should make it possible for them to provide a better value. I am at the very least intrigued.
I think that’s kind of where I’m at too. I’m supporting so it continues to grow and evolves over time! I think it’s great

I think comparing this to Rolex was on point. It’s a luxury brand as are subscription boxes a luxury.
I have had different subscriptions over the years of different types. It’s not something you need or do to save money. It’s a gift you give yourself. After a few months you actually stop anticipating the arrival. So as it slips to the back of your mind. When the box shows up and surprises you because you’ve basically forgotten it. Then you get a great surprise gift from yourself. You open the box with anticipation and then when you get to the treasures inside. You get a joy and satisfaction that is very hard to put a price on. That in my opinion is the point of any subscription box.

Two: I once drew out a design and found a great pipe maker and all around cool guy to make it, absolutely love it. The company is OWL Pipes, they are all handmade by the owner and his wife makes these awesome custom wooden boxes they come in. You really can't beat the feeling of opening your custom box when you want a smoke and knowing your supporting a small family business.

I saw Alan’s video on ‘The Pipe Cottage’, and I believe he’s looking at it from the perspective of an experienced Pipe smoker and tobacco connoisseur. Would I subscribe to this now? Probably not. Would I have subscribed to this 10, 15 years ago? Absolutely! For the novice smoker exploring new blends, or someone who simply doesn’t have time to dive into the latest/greatest news and reviews of pipe blends this might be the way to go! If the packaging ends up in the trash can I don't care how pretty it looks all I care about is what's in it. And anyone who says they're willing to pay an extra 2 3 or $4 for something to look pretty as it sets in the trash can, i can't see eye to eye. When I buy a $800 Stetson or a pair of $600 Western boots yes I keep the Box but They will return to those boxes when I'm not using them. My tobacco is not going to reenter that Box.
BTW I have a subscription and my 2nd Box is due on the 15th lol

@@GetPiped Yeah man 0 hate. Actually really like their product and their selections are great so far. I think they just need trim back on the color box to black & white and I think there going to be golden.
I like your videos. The pipe crate seems a little too expensive for just 3 ounces of tobacco when I can get 3 ounces of Sir Walter Raleigh or Super Value for 11 bucks.

Yeah, I think it was a good idea, but when you can get 1oz tobacco online for $3-6, your going to be hard pressed (in this economy) to get folks to spend twice that a month - especially when most pipers have a boat load of tobacco on hand.

A 1oz box is awesome. Il tell you what would be great if he is able to offer 1offs as well like a 1oz of blends like folklore in the 1oz sampler

Great coverage on this product. I can see newer pipe smokers enjoying it. And it’s a hard pass for me if you talk about religion or politics on your pipe channel (pipe cottage).
The Tin Society was $25 a month (for a similar offering) and it unfortunately folded. Pipe smokers are notoriously cheap.

Love your content. Got a question I just started pipe smoking and I and I’ve noticed I have a lot of saliva. Would you recommend staying with a strait pipe or a bend pipe? Thanks!
I would suggest a straight pipe. The bent pipes will collect the saliva and moisture.
Nice video. Im in the camp of buy what makes you happy.
However, i will disagree with you comparing a Rolex box to this. The reason for that is because this tobacco is consumable and a rolex is not. If i dont have the rolex box the value is lowered if/when i go to sell the watch. I cant sell smoked tobacco.
With all that being said, i like the presentation. I think most people want to open something and it look nice vs saving a few bucks and having a zip lock bag of tobacco sliding around in a box.

I dont know. If a guy has to spend 20 mins explaining why you need something you prob dont need it. Also anyone who receives the item for free then leaves a review on how great it is comes off to me as biased. However if you can afford $300 or $600 a year on tobacco mystery boxes good for you.
I don’t hate your take. It has some merit. But anyone who is willingly makes a 20 minute video and the subsequent 10 hours of editing for 0 dollars might have a strong claim as well.
