- This year marks the 25th anniversary of one of Belgium’s most iconic dance labels: Bonzai. The importance this local powerhouse had on ravers and dancefloors worldwide was just astonishing. Multiple generations of fans have grown up with these timeless classics that span from trance to progressive, or the sturdier electronic genres. From bringing out the first record to ultimately becoming a global force with around a dozen sub-labels and hundreds of releases to date, Bonzai have engraved themselves in the definitive history of dance music.
To mark this special occasion that is a quarter century of Bonzai, Red Bull Elektropedia has teamed up with the guys behind this legendary institution to bring you this exclusive one hour documentary, showing you the story of the record label and the worldwide impact it had on the electronic music scene.

Dit is en blijft toch goud om te zien. Het zou eigenlijk verplicht in het lespakket moeten zitten... maar tot die tijd doen we het met deze docu!
I just found this channel. JUST AMAZING!!!! i was 16 in '92, so missed the best years of destelbergen bocca, and globe,..... We and all friends, had a wonderfull time!! Cherry moon, montini, illusion, carat, globe, extreme,...... We were so lucky to have this moment in time..... With fisherman's, and many other great party things... But without the music it would just never not be the same, but completely not existend!!!! And this, is a periode that we could enjoy, and gave every week a reason to look out to the next weekend.... Untill 2000.... Police started razzia's and just with ridiculous excuses closing every disco. But even now.... They still dance to the same kind of music. What music style survived more then 30 years???!!!! Just 1 bad thing, DJ's like REGI, that wanted commercializing and money.... Nothing about good music, or this culture. He was one of the reasons that the music got less unique and mind-blowing.... Commercializing and the law fucked up the entire peace, love and xtc world!!! Now it's my age, at 46 I'm just old, but still feel the same when I hear this music... I wish all the best for the channel. I hope to see more and more about this period '88 until '99. Many thanks.... Peace?...... No just XTC!! that is a word that explaines the entire moment, and best time for someone that discover going out at 17years.....
zo gelukkig dat ik dit heb mogen meemaken in mijn jeugd... 25 jaar geleden was alles zo veel beter en leuker. We hebben de tijd van ons leven meegemaakt en ze gaan dit nooit meer van ons afnemen. Thanks Bonzai !!!

J'avais 18ans en 1990 j'ai connu Boccaccio Cherry globe la Rocca Balmoral et tout le reste 7 ans de sortie de 90 a 97 7 ans de folie des weekend de 4 a 5 jours non stop de boîte en boîte. Quel folie les années 90 avec la house music bonzai et tout les autre label qui non on fais dancer.
I consider myself to be blessed, because I could play all these killer tracks back in the day in my club. Thank you very much Bonzai for giving me the best time of my life.

When I lived in lieden I used to shop in cyber records little did I know it was the home of bonzai records, I lived in the haven in Leiden only 300 metres from the shop and I remember the tunes banging out next to new times bar and often went to buy some new tunes. I visited Leiden last year and took a walk down the harlemerstratt to see where it all began. Thanks for the music as cyber records will always be my favourite record shop in Holland in the year 2000.
Loved this, brought me back to browsing records every Saturday morning in Abbey Discs in Dublin circa 93/94 and seeing many Bonzai records. I actually have an old Members of Mayday mix tape, which has Thunderball playing in it. Great memories! 😊

18:30 is so important. You had to go to the club in order to experience the music. No internet, mp3, no major label distribution. Only the clubs first. Harthouse limited the number of records they pressed.

El punto finalllllle......... Omg!!!!!! I thought I was old and just not for me anymore....... Just listening after 25years..... I get the same feeling. Yes the Beatles, many many great songs made in the 80's...... But do they give the same effect as this?! I thought it was great xtc, but just listening it again.... Feels still the same!!! I hope that before I die, they give me just an xtc and the good old '90s house!!!! And die in peace.... What can go wrong?

Als ik aan de Cherry Moon nog eens passeer in Lokeren krijg ik nog altijd een crop in de keel. Wat een periode ! Die sfeer in die mega clubs toen met Bonzai muziek, dat blijft toch uniek.
Na zoveel jaar, al die platen op een deftige hifi setup afspelen toont ook goed hoe sommige platen in elkaar zijn geflanst, maar als dat aan't knallen wat in de dance tempel met +100dB maakte het allemaal niet veel meer uit. Zelfs zonder drugs kan je perfect in trace geraken met deze iconische schijven. Leuk ook om dit stukje te sluiten met El Punto Final ! Mooie reportage.

We need good well known good record stores in the UK and get the records imported as all the major stores have gone bankrupt or cannot order them in .curriers don't give don't care about fragile items
When trance was trance and it needs to make a return badly. EDM needs to die and make DJ, club and rave culture great again. From 1970's - mid 2000's where the underground analog turntablist feel, vibe, skill really thrived. Great documentary though.

Keep it real guys vinal sales are getting on again re-release your lable again to the fullest, I have 15 records from bonzai all original releases from back in the day and sure I bought universal nation a few weeks ago on bonzai because it was the one that got away at the time, thanks for this documentary it really brings it back and bonzai was so hard to find in Ireland apart from one record shop that sold your stuff... Can't wait for the rebirth of a bonzai night in Amsterdam ar in i love techno in ghent
Sorry to dissapoint you. But I love techno Ghent doesn't excist anymore. And it all started there in vooruit Ghent. I was there from the beginning in 1995.👍
@@Followyourpassions cheers for the reply I am aware of I love techno not on in gent anymore that's why I said a rebirth of a night in I love techno or in Amsterdam. Either way it's crap the way things are who knows what clubbing would be like in the next few years it will never be the same all we have is memories. I was at I love techno 1998 1999 2000 2001 I few from Ireland each year
@@ianfrancis2179 the kompass club in Ghent is now also closed from this year. Was a great place with good techno. You can find it on RUclips also. They are going to an other location. We still have kozzmozz in vooruit Ghent 👌.
