Hey, I'm 19 but I was raised on good music and this is one of my favorite songs. The bassist is playing one of the funkiest grooves I've ever heard and my hat is off for anybody who can play a jazz flute like that!
In the 70s, we didn't categorize the music. If we could dance to it, it sounded good, was funky, musicians were on point, singers were singing, that's all that was required.
Exactly right. Categorization is mainly done for commercial reasons, but I increasingly believe that you can at most say that there is music for different purposes, without attaching all kinds of labels to it.

Song is 46 years old and still in the Coolness Hall of Fame. Indescribable how good this song makes me feel. I just know I'm in the wind when I hear it. That intro, that bass, the bongos, the drums and then Lonnie on that synth, then that voice "Expand Your MInd..." A song about love and peace and the brotherhood of man, ending with that plea "Expand Your MInd. Expand Your Mind." Masterpiece, Master Peace, To Everyone Joy and Peace.

Lonnie is a Richmond, Virginia native along with his brothers Donald & Ray. Their father, Lonnie, Sr. sang with the legendary gospel group, "The Harmonizing Four". Donald is featured here on vocals and is also a accomplished pianist and flutist. Ray is the last original member of the "Jarmels" who made the song "A Little Bit of Soap". Just a bit of history from a homer.

Still a timeless classic and I'm still playing it. Many thanks for the upload.

As a PlayStation 2 player, this song literally gives me the chills when I play Grand Theft Auto Vice City.
And that's how I became interested on Lonnie Liston Smith.
I was in my early 20s when I first things track. Blew my mind then, still does now . I'm 58, it's my all time favourite track to dance to. Takes me right back to the jazz room in clubs xxx

Soon as I heard this I wanted more... that was over 25 years ago
This tune is before its time, and still sounds as fresh as the laundry I put on my line this morning. I never tire of listening to this classic tune!
To this day quite a few smooth jazz artists continue to cover it and I think that even some rap artists have sampled it
Nice analogy!
The cow bell, conga, bass player, drummer, keyboard player and of course the singing makes this Expansion of music a classic.
How did you not mention the flute at the end😮
How good is this Funk Fusion masterpiece ... mesmerising
One of the very best tunes ever composed lyrically and instrumentally.
This Classic Still kicking in 2019 awesome.

This song is an anthem, great song that all the Black folks loved when it came out. in the 70s. 70s music was so fabulous.
