Back in the day when we had to rep our hood battling neighboring crews, it was to see who had the illest flows. until it became a business, then MC's wanted in to make money. Fast forward to the present, A lot of Rappers aren't taking pride in their lyrical skills like they used to because it's all about numbers, who's charting, so they forgotten when Hip-Hop was in it's purest form. That's why a lot of battle rapper's rarely become mainstream in the industry. Battle rapper's take pride in the Hip-Hop culture, whether they get paid or not.
