- Plant Lovers! Here's a delicious plant with a somewhat confused sense of identity!! Sold to me as Epidendrum floribundum, it most likely isn't that species, but rather a primary hybrid called Epicyclia Mabel Kanda - which is a cross between Epidendrum paniculatum & Encyclia cordigera. But whatever it is actually called, it's a beautiful, vigorous and fragrant orchid...which is quite easy to grow! Well, it is once you've figured it out and I made quite a serious mistake last year which resulted in near death and no blooms! So lets take a look at this fabulous orchid and the care I've figured out works for it in my climate!
The nursery I mention I bought this plant from is here: fitzroynursery.com.au/ Хобби
I just got this orchid from Lowe’s of all places and went a bit nuts buying whatever sounded interesting. I love fragrant orchids and am a beginner going down and down the rabbit hole all the while. I’m very excited I got this one.
New to your channel and love your informative videos that don’t leave me confused :)

Thanks for finding me and good luck with it!
Same!! Got mine from Home Depot around the same time you did. Good luck :)
I got one this spring at Lowe’s in Alabama USA
That is beautiful. I fear I’m too warm for that but would sure try at least once.
Thanks for watching!
Hello Matthew, I am learning a great deal from your entertaining videos. It is very useful to find out about the growth patterns of particular orchids and their general care. Very envious however regarding the cold climate orchids you have in Melbourne as I live in Brisbane with its hot and humid summers. Thank you.
Thanks for watching - and you will be able to grow MANY more types of orchids than me in your climate!
I have an encyclica polybutton and am STRUGGLING with this thing…and it’s meant to be easy to grow. Your E Mabel Kanda is glorious ❤
Thank you - good luck with yours!
Lovely plant!! I just got one today labeled as a Mable Kanda. We shall see whether or not the tag is correct!! Yours is beautiful, thank you for sharing
Oh interesting! Good luck with yours!
The encyclia radii once upon the time. Love love love. The flowers last forever and if u keep out in the morning, it has perfume like English roses
Thanks for watching!
She’s beautiful I might get an encyclia!!!!
Thanks for watching!
Hi Matthew, I have Epy. Serena O’Neill, which is supposed to be an offspring of your Mabel Kanda. I definitely see the family resemblance so I think you’re right. It looks like you’ve conquered the culture and your plant is thriving! I love the green flowers. Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
❤❤
That could also be Epicyclia Belmont, which is Epi paniculatum x Enc tampensis, but I don't think Belmont was ever widely produced.
Just looked that up - certainly looks like it!!
Ciao! Adoro i tuoi video. Hai Bellissime piante, complimenti 👏👏.

I am in LOVE with those beautiful green blooms. I am going on the hunt for her as soon as spring arrives!! Thank you for the introduction. :)
Thanks for watching!
If you are in the US they are sold by Lowe’s in the wrapped section on the bottom shelf. Good luck

Ohhh..no idea! I'd suggest going along to a few orchid group meetings in your area and see what other people grow in your climate and ask advice! Very different climate to mine but a LOT of options! Good luck!
Splendid
Thanks Rachel!
Edit. After watching your entire video, that may be E Mabel Kanda. The blooms seem a bit larger and more pinkish than mine. So mine shall be Belmont and yours a true Mabel Kanda i'm guessing... Also because you report some issues with cold temps and crown rot? I have mine in the cold outdoors and never had anything of the sort. Or maybe mine and yours are just different clones of the same hybrid? hehe who knows! These two hybrids are really similar. One thing I agree with you. It's by no means an Epidendrum floribundum. None! Over here in Europe this is fairly common and appears every spring for sale. Mine flowers several times per year, 2 at least. The fragrance is really delicious despite faint. Overall its a really really robust hybrid that people tend to love more and more. I keep mine really in a rather "bad" way, not in prime conditions and it still blooms and blooms for me despite sub optimal care. One of those I truly recommend. I might start keeping mine better after this video! They have lot of potential to flower way better than I've been having.. Agree with you in all points throughout the video since most of it has been same experience for me with this plant. Clever points and lots of good info.
Thanks for watching and thanks for sharing your experience! Here's to better care in 24!
I bought mine as ep floribundum so I'm guessing mine will be the same as urs Matt
Possibly!
