I don’t know if there are studies have been done on this but I almost have to wonder how large age gaps affect younger couples 18+. My mom and biological dad got married when she was 20 and he was 30. They divorced three years after I was born.
It's still a stupid phrase though, it doesn't have much meaning and it only sounds "deep". Numbers have different value, for starters. 20 isn't the same as 80. Age is also more than just a number, it determines a stage on life and the physiological and psychological development of the person. A 5 year old, a 15 year old, a 35 year old and a 65 year old are all on different stages. What people on adult relationships with age gaps should say it's that they're in a consensual relationship between two (or more) adults and it's none of anyone's business what they do with their lives. That's reasonable.
Find an accredited therapist who specializes in sexual abuse recovery. It is possible to deal with the trauma so that you can lead a fulfilling life. There is hope.

When I was 14 i was groomed by a 22 year old guy online. It almost ruined my life and relationships with my family. It caused a lot of trauma. It's never EVER ok to be messing with KIDS on the internet.
Yeah I remember when I was 16 some 24yo guy on the internet was saying he'd sleep with me and all that. Very creepy, though at the time I didn't know any better because as a teenager I thought it was cool that an older guy was into me lol.

I talked to older men online when I was 13-15. They were 18-19. They were sending my inappropriate messages and PLENTY of pictures. They knew I was underaged and they didn’t care. During that time, obviously I was excited that they were talking to me. In retrospect, it was SO disturbing. That’s why I will NOT back down from what James is doing. It is wrong and needs to be stopped.
This also happened to me, I don’t know what to make of it and in my head I continue to have conflicting thoughts about a specific person that I online dated for about a year and a half. I was 15 and he was 25, he did not ever send or request for inappropriate anything, but he did say some inappropriate things. Other than that, he was generally very nice to me. I am 26 now and I feel sick at the thought of dating a 16 year old, which is the age gap he had with me back then, so I have started re-thinking that whole thing. I feel guilty because he was not the only one seeking me out, I would reach out and talk to him too, but times have changed a lot and people are more educated on these things currently, so knowing what I know now, I do feel inclined to believe he is the one that should have marked a line with me as I was only 15 and cannot be expected to make sound decisions at that age... Should I label him a predator though? He did not date any other minors, would not constantly surround himself of underage girls, his next girlfriend was younger than him as well but definitely an adult. This is always a complicated subject for me because of this experience, because I very strongly condemn this type of behavior, and at the same time cannot seem to do the same for my own personal experience with it.

I swear I never understood that even as a teen. Older guys creeping on high school girls was weird and creepy to me when I was that age. As someone who’s James’s age and has people I’d consider friends in the age range of people he texted, his conduct deeply disturbs me. I believe that adults and kids can be friends, but only in the sense of a student/teacher or older/younger sibling relationship. You SHOULD NEVER treat them the same way you would someone your own age. Boundaries need to be set pretty early on. If they make a dirty joke, you don’t make one back. If they vent their problems to you, don’t lay your issues on them as well. You’re their mentor, NOT their peer, plain and simple. I feel like this should go without saying, but unfortunately recent events with multiple people have shown that some are all too willing to wield their position of power over those who are unaware and it’s absolutely infuriating.

Not everyone is like that, but you're right, it's important to be able to tell the difference. I had friends at 14, 15, 16 years of age that were 30 somethings, 40 somethings, and 50 somethings, and it was never inappropriate. It was never weird, we talked about all kinds of topics, but always PG at most, and they looked at me as a younger sister or a daughter and often advised me as such too. I was just always very mature, and people my age have never appealed to me, even now. I think people my age just aren't good people, they're too worried about taking selfies and stuff.

I am a male victim and no one has taken me seriously ever. I was rapped by my ex wife after taking her into my home because she told me her mother kicked her out. She was pregnant with another mans baby! She was legally my wife because she refused to sign divorce papers. I woke up with her on top of me and I was already inside of her. It was unwanted and rape. She also told me she would kill our kids if I didn’t sign the birth certificate of her child. She later placed my name on the birth certificate and tried to collect child support from me. When I came forward no one believed me and there was no programs available for male victims. She filed a restraining order after I filed one and tried to get my children safe. The courts gave her custody and she physically, verbally and sexually abused them. I have also been sexually harassed and propositioned for sex from a former Boss.This shit happens to men too and we need to break the stereotypes. Stop the double standard. This crap happens to men and as a man that this has happened to I completely relate to what Blair is saying. I still have trauma today when a woman climbs on top of me. Thankfully I am bisexual and have no issue being with men instead.

Tati and James had a 17 yr age gap and their relationship started when James was still in high school. Granted, it was supposed to be more of a mentor relationship but they still called each other friends. Might be strange but there’s nothing inherently wrong with having friends with an age gap. Romantic relationships are a different story. I do however think there’s potential for problems when the older person has been around the younger person so long that they forget their own age and start acting the age of the younger person. He's uploaded multiple videos on the subject, during of which he has admitted to what he's being accused to. You should do your own research and come to an educated opinion rather than just say it didn't happen because evidence wasn't spoon fed to you. Especially when the evidence is incredibly easy to find. I went from knowing nothing on this subject beyond this one video, to hearing James himself talk on the subject in less than 10 minutes.

An adult guy was messaging my minor daughter and threatened his bit with jail if he even accepted a message from her. I don’t care if you are a boy or girl, all pedos should be jailed... and possibly death penalty.
I’m 20 years old and the thought of being with someone who’s still in high school is laughable (in a sick way). There’s no way a person that young could give me the amount of maturity, stability, relatability that I require from even a friendship. I mean I’ve worked a full time job, lived paycheck to paycheck, attended college, drank, smoked, worried about adult things like taxes and credit, and I’m pregnant with my first child. My mindset now compared to my mindset even a couple of years ago is staggeringly different. Part of me still wants to believe that maybe James relates to younger people because of his lack of real world experience, but with the evidence that has been presented and when I put myself in his shoes, it’s clear people are right. He does not deserve a platform if he’s gonna use it to be creepy. EDIT: I don’t give a fuck what anybody thinks about my life choices, my point is I couldn’t fathom having relations with a teenager, and if any grown adults out here want to disagree, I already know what type of person you are.
i’m not from the US, but where i am from; i’m the equivalent of a high school student. i agree with every single thing you’ve said. it is disturbing to me that there are people like james who would consider seeing people the same age as me, when we are very much children. wishing you all the best for you and your child!

Used to hangout with 20-50yr old when I was about 16. Now I'm in my 20s worked with a couple teens at random jobs nice kids, I build a good friendship with them. But when they ask for drugs or booze I tell them no 🤷🏼♀️ I just refuse to put someone through things I went through as a teenager.

I think this really depends on where you live. If you live in a smaller town, even in your 20s, you may still hang out with some high schoolers, simply because there aren't as many people living there to hang with. I didnt a lot, but there were definitely times when I would hang with my brother and his friends.

When we were young, it seemed very cool to have older people to hang out with. Now that I’m older, I realize that a mid twenties person hanging out with teens is a huge red flag that the adult is not right. Otherwise they’d be hanging out with people in their own social peer group and not kids.
Idunno, I always hung out in mixed age groups. It's just the nature of many hobbies. Should I really ban a teenager from a safe hobby if some of the players/participants are adults? I talked to older men online when I was 13-15. They were 18-19. They were sending my inappropriate messages and PLENTY of pictures. They knew I was underaged and they didn’t care. During that time, obviously I was excited that they were talking to me. In retrospect, it was SO disturbing. That’s why I will NOT back down from what James is doing. This also happened to me, I don’t know what to make of it and in my head I continue to have conflicting thoughts about a specific person that I online dated for about a year and a half. I was 15 and he was 25, he did not ever send or request for inappropriate anything, but he did say some inappropriate things. Other than that, he was generally very nice to me. I am 26 now and I feel sick at the thought of dating a 16 year old, which is the age gap he had with me back then, so I have started re-thinking that whole thing. I feel guilty because he was not the only one seeking me out, I would reach out and talk to him too, but times have changed a lot and people are more educated on these things currently, so knowing what I know now, I do feel inclined to believe he is the one that should have marked a line with me as I was only 15 and cannot be expected to make sound decisions at that age... Should I label him a predator though? He did not date any other minors, would not constantly surround himself of underage girls, his next girlfriend was younger than him as well but definitely an adult. This is always a complicated subject for me because of this experience, because I very strongly condemn this type of behavior, and at the same time cannot seem to do the same for my own personal experience with it.

When I was in high school a lot of girls in my class were dating 20 something year olds. Like you said at the time it seemed cool and somewhat flattering for an older guy to notice you at that age. As someone who’s James’s age and has people I’d consider friends in the age range of people he texted, his conduct deeply disturbs me. I believe that adults and kids can be friends, but only in the sense of a student/teacher or older/younger sibling relationship. You SHOULD NEVER treat them the same way you would someone your own age.
Boundaries need to be set pretty early on. If they make a dirty joke, you don’t make one back. If they vent their problems to you, don’t lay your issues on them as well. You’re their mentor, NOT their peer, plain and simple.
I feel like this should go without saying, but unfortunately recent events with multiple people have shown that some are all too willing to wield their position of power over those who are unaware and it’s absolutely infuriating.

Not everyone is like that, but you're right, it's important to be able to tell the difference. I had friends at 14, 15, 16 years of age that were 30 somethings, 40 somethings, and 50 somethings, and it was never inappropriate. It was never weird, we talked about all kinds of topics, but always PG at most, and they looked at me as a younger sister or a daughter and often advised me as such too. I was just always very mature, and people my age have never appealed to me, even now. I think people my age just aren't good people, they're too worried about taking selfies and stuff.

I am a male victim and no one has taken me seriously ever. I was rapped by my ex wife after taking her into my home because she told me her mother kicked her out. She was pregnant with another mans baby! She was legally my wife because she refused to sign divorce papers. I woke up with her on top of me and I was already inside of her. It was unwanted and rape. She also told me she would kill our kids if I didn’t sign the birth certificate of her child. She later placed my name on the birth certificate and tried to collect child support from me. When I came forward no one believed me and there was no programs available for male victims. She filed a restraining order after I filed one and tried to get my children safe. The courts gave her custody and she physically, verbally and sexually abused them. I have also been sexually harassed and propositioned for sex from a former Boss.This shit happens to men too and we need to break the stereotypes. Stop the double standard. This crap happens to men and as a man that this has happened to I completely relate to what Blair is saying. I still have trauma today when a woman climbs on top of me. Thankfully I am bisexual and have no issue being with men instead.

I’m 20 years old and the thought of being with someone who’s still in high school is laughable (in a sick way). There’s no way a person that young could give me the amount of maturity, stability, relatability that I require from even a friendship. I mean I’ve worked a full time job, lived paycheck to paycheck, attended college, drank, smoked, worried about adult things like taxes and credit, and I’m pregnant with my first child. My mindset now compared to my mindset even a couple of years ago is staggeringly different. Part of me still wants to believe that maybe James relates to younger people because of his lack of real world experience, but with the evidence that has been presented and when I put myself in his shoes, it’s clear people are right. He does not deserve a platform if he’s gonna use it to be creepy.

Used to hangout with 20-50yr old when I was about 16. Now I'm in my 20s worked with a couple teens at random jobs nice kids, I build a good friendship with them. But when they ask for drugs or booze I tell them no 🤷🏼♀️ I just refuse to put someone through things I went through as a teenager.

Obviously not all friend groups, but I remember a lot in my high school, 25yr old losers picking up there freshman girl friend from school. Or dudes who graduated 3yrs ago still hanging out with young girls and shit, it was really weird. When I was a sophomore I was groomed by a man who was 22 and he was in the navy.
I think this really depends on where you live. If you live in a smaller town, even in your 20s, you may still hang out with some high schoolers, simply because there aren't as many people living there to hang with. I didnt a lot, but there were definitely times when I would hang with my brother and his friends.
Her point is that we don’t always recognise this “cool” 20 year old hanging out with minors as inappropriate behaviour when we’re young and impressionable. Then later we grow up and realise in retrospect how weird that was

I think he is seeking validation and subconsciously/consciously knows a younger guy may see him as more of an idol and would have lust for him. He would be in control of their relationship and have grooming capabilities. Curious to see what happens as he continues to get older.

I’m over half way through in this video and as someone who is 28 the thought of talking talking to a minor is atrocious to me. Like I could NEVER. So I look back to when I was 14 and all the older men hanging with us like either we were just fun and “mature” or the more likely reason, creeps. Especially for me who has my own traumatic experience being 14 & dealing with an incident with a 25 year old man, it’s a very serious topic.

When we were young, it seemed very cool to have older people to hang out with. Now that I’m older, I realize that a mid twenties person hanging out with teens is a huge red flag that the adult is not right. Otherwise they’d be hanging out with people in their own social peer group and not kids.
Idunno, I always hung out in mixed age groups. It's just the nature of many hobbies. Should I really ban a teenager from a safe hobby if some of the players/participants are adults? Especially in a small rural town where you can barely keep the lights on in a single hobby shop? Just don't have sex with them. Easy for most. I can play cards with an eight year old and not want to sleep with them. In fact as an autistic child most of my friends were my dad's friend so really please try not to judge everyone at first glance.
Yea i agree, as a kid you think that’s the cool guy, as an adult that’s the guy you think it’s a creepy deadbeat loser. Obviously there are exceptions, but more often then not kids and adults don’t have that much in common. An adult hanging with the underaged gender they are attracted too usually ends strangely.
