I always liked battle droids. In the prequel films they were designed to look clumsy and only effective in great numbers. But in The Clone Wars they got personalities. Most of them were alike, but some were different. And they produced a nice comic relief even in very grim episodes, I really liked that. And eventually I grew to hate the fact that the Separatists AND the Republic used the type of army of their choice, destined to fight to death for a cause they not necessarily agree with. It's a soulless and inhumane thing, and TCW did an excellent job portraying it in several episodes. Personally I like to think that the Lone Battle Droid went to search for the grapple droid, and convince the farmers to repair and reactivate that one too.
Fun fact. The droids personalities weren't programmed. They were accidental emergent properties. When the CIS switched from a Droid hive mind under a central control system to fully autonomous robots capable of individual processing and action the CIS programmers hit a problem. The B1s were cheap to make and had their proccessers couldn't handle everything their new programming could do. This resulted in glitches happening as their overtaxed ram and processers kept struggling.

This actually makes you really think -- perhaps the reason why droids had so much goofy dispositions in the animated and movie iterations is because they had the sentience and freedom to choose all along. Except the droids were forced to obey through the core, while the clones have inhibitor chips.
When the Battle Droids were constantly on the front, I imagine they didn't always have time to undergo routine memory wipes (like Defragging their brains). Therefore they ended up developing their own thoughts and personalities. ^_^

Geetsly's, why didn't Maul expose Chancellor Palpatine as Darth Sidious at the Siege of Mandalore? After what Sidious did to Savage and his family, there is no logical reason he would protect his former master.
Yes. Maybe not at first but the seed of doubt would be planted. Since what Maul would have said would be true there's no doubt in my mind that eventually Palpatine would do something that would trigger the suspicion of whoever Maul told.
Literally every droid in starwars is technically sentient, yes. This only develops over time as they gain more expieriences- though this can overflow their memory of they don't have the hardware or program to maintain themselves (which Battle Droids do not possess). Battle Droids stick out in particular as they are given tasks far too specialized and too many programs for their hardware to handle, so they are constantly over-worked just by trying to do their most basic jobs, and they themselves are fully aware of this... This is also why they seem so dumb. Not so much that they are incapable of it, but rather they are just using so much of their memory that the droids can't really think through all the other things running.
The Lieutenant Yeah they were. But they were also controlled at the same time, however as you saw in the video when they aren’t under control they’re no different than a sentient being able to feel emotion, pain, and even empathy.
winndypops yeah how could they not find that big guy? He Could help them at the farm, I mean he's a grapple Droid, heavy lifting and doesn't feel pain. That would be great for their farm.
I remember reading a comic about a droid who deactivated near a tree and I thought it was sleeping. It was left there for so long, you could see all the seasons going by. Some people came by and I think picked it up
MisdaFire INFEXUS Not really. How many fans still hold KOTOR in high regard and refuse to accept it as non canon? Likewise for Republic Commando, the Thrawn Trilogy and hundreds of similar titles? Disney owns the rights, not the soul of the series. That belongs to both Lucas and his fanbase, the people who actually made Star Wars what it is today, not people who merely milk it as a cash cow. The new films are terrible, even the actors involved in them say so. It won’t be too long before they’re simply forgotten about, whereas the legends material will continue to stand the test of time. That is worth infinitely more than Disney marking something as approved.
I like to think that the battledroid after being recharged and reactivated went and found the other Droid dragged it back to the farm and from parts from the battlefield rebuilt and reactivated it and then lived on that farm for generations helping that family become insanely successful
I have a fuzzy cat Don't forget the one from the Clone Wars movie who fell off the Teth Jungle pillar just because he was trying to look at something. Heartbreaking.
Clone Trooper: "Boy those droids have it rough. I sure am glad I can think for myself instead of being forced to commit violent acts against my will due some programming."
The droids are in my opinion, incredibly tragic. Many are *CLEARLY* sentient. But no one cares. The Jedi kill them without mercy. The clones call them clankers and hate them. Their leaders mercilessly annihilate in suicidal charges. And not even the fans look at this. Why cannot we have a true happy ending for then.
3.14 Dragon cuz they are just droids, they are programed for war, nothing else. If it wasn't for the war, those droids would not exist. They just follow orders, and also, they dont have fellings. CUZ THEY ARE NOTHING MORE THAN IDIOT ROBOTS. Just kiddin, but is pretty much that
The Lone Battle Droid staying with the Grapple Droid as he went offline, even though he himself had little time left, was an act of compassion that rivals the greatest of the Jedi.
I'm a big fan of droids in SW ( because you can ponder about a lot things concerning them) this story is one more proof that droids in SW can became sentients beings, Hope, Fear of death, Acceptance... A simple construct animated by a program just can't experience this feelings
MrMolay44 The clone war was sad as hell becaude it pitted 2 organizations of warriors slaves who were for all intent and purpose sentient beings: the humans clones who had no say as to their life and career, essentially brainwashed slave soldiers, and the droids, capable of sentient feelings, slaved to a greedy confederacy.
The music fits perfectly, thank you for telling this story. It actually makes you empathize with the two, and I haven't ever had that happen before with a droid
Mykel Allen that's what I like about the war going on in the original trilogy vs prequels: They are both incredibly deep and interesting, but completely different. The Clone Wars are cool because it's a full scale galactic war. With two entire armies fighting across thousands of planets. But the Galactic Civil War is cool in a different way, it's not a war as much as an ant fighting a human, but somehow the ant wins.
JackTheRabbit32 The Clone Wars is an entertainment gold mine in the middle of its life. The best thing about it (in my opinion) are the little things. For example, this droid, the clone commandos (in the game Republic Commando), and Fives from The Clone Wars TV series.
Bill Pettit do you know about the Republic Commando book series that the game is based on? No offense, I just found it odd that you mentioned the game, rather than the books.
Bill Pettit believe me it is incredible. The detail and fleshing out of the characters make it feel so real. Fun Fact: if you've seen things about Mandalorian Culture and even the language of Mando'a, it started here. The author Karen Traviss made the language, and it's now growing exclusively by the fans. I'm planning on joining the great cosplay club Mandalorian Mercs. mandoa.org is a website featuring the entire dictionary. Enjoy!
and this is why I'm a grey Jedi. I can let my emotions flow but still walk a light path. it's times like these, tears must flow no matter if it means you're a danger to the force.
I always though it was cruel, the way the Jedi and clones destroyed droids indiscriminaly wether they were armed or unarmed. Even the Jedi, killed unarmed droids, something they would ever have done with flesh made sentients. Goes to show that the Jedi aren't that enlightened, since they discriminate between organic and non-organic beings. The few Jedi who saw droids as equals beings were not taken seriousely by the others. Both the droids and the clones were slaves to their respective governements, and when both were used up they were discarded. The droids and clones should have united and rebelled against the separtist alliance and galactic republic.
Ribeiro da Silva Lopes João maria Or at least have the Droids kill the politicians and businessmen of the CIS to make the Confederacy's leadership people who actually believed in the Cause.
Yeah. DEFECT_ was a saxxy winner with the same story, except instead of getting restored by farmers, that one ends with the bit (a sniper bot, if I’m not mistaken) getting incinerated in a factory
Honestly, as a soldier myself this story hits hard. Whatever veteran you are, you were afraid. You wanted to run, because it was all meaningless. Your single patrol wouldn't break enemy morale. You were never going to end the war in that skirmish along that road or in that field. You wanted to run, but you didn't. You couldn't. But it's not programming that keeps you in your position, its knowledge that you "grapple droid", isnt a droid. He's just as scared as you are, so you're in the fight to make it easier for him. Sometimes you win, and the feeling after is ecstasy. There are times you don't though, and you know that battle buddy of yours didn't have to die. Because if that skirmish had never happened, that firefight never occurred, it wouldn't have made a singular difference between victory and defeat.
Drops Are Fun They're like actual people, underneath the joking and stuff they do they're actually afraid, nervous, anxious, terrified of what they're going to do.

Then the farmers would have a guard to protect their farm from raiders. Not only that, but the battle droid will have a droid buddy to hang around with. Sounds like one hell of a story with a boring concept but an epic execution the I would Absolutely read
I just realized this was used as a basis for a sfm animation for the TF2 Saxxy Awards as the drama category called DEFECT_, it won
yeah I thought this sounded familiar to a SFM
Except that one has a bad ending.
I JUST REALIZED THAT!
Holy crap you're right!
I knew I'm not the only that thought of this when I watched the SFM aswell
I honestly thought he was going to turn into Mister Bones with the head damaged and missing arm haha!

This legitimately made me cry. I've always loved the B1s. I'm happy that the Lone Battle Droid got a new life.
And people say that droids don’t have a soul. Well, they technically don’t, but if they get hit in a certain place, they do

"and ran for several kilometers, or four miles."
Thaaaaat's not how that works.
TheGreatPotato 47 I think he meant "for miles" not "four miles"
yeah... I think it was 'for' not 'four'
friggin goddamn english why you gotta do this
4 mi = ~6.5 km. Rounds up to seven. He may have said “and ran for seven kilometers” as opposed to “several kilometers”
@@ClonedGamer001 again; fuckin english
Bruhhhh I’m watching in 2019 and that quote from the grapple droid is literally what the mars rover said when it went offline this earlier this year that’s crazy
Beautiful story, it shed some humanity into an unhuman like object
this story is so heart breaking
Geetsly's, why didn't Maul expose Chancellor Palpatine as Darth Sidious at the Siege of Mandalore? After what Sidious did to Savage and his family, there is no logical reason he would protect his former master.
fear from palpitine murdering his booty perhaps? im no star wars expert but if i was maul id be scared shitless or palps
Palpatine was already trying to kill him. He had nothing to lose, and only safety to gain.
Who would have believed him? The Jedi?
Yes. Maybe not at first but the seed of doubt would be planted. Since what Maul would have said would be true there's no doubt in my mind that eventually Palpatine would do something that would trigger the suspicion of whoever Maul told.
Order 65 why the hell did they not use that
"Its getting dark and my batteries are low"
Wait, so does this mean that all droids are technically sentient? Wouldn't the droid shut down kill quadrillions of "thinking" beings?
Not kill, probably, but put into comatose state.
Stupid butter bar, droids have no souls
The Lieutenant Yeah they were. But they were also controlled at the same time, however as you saw in the video when they aren’t under control they’re no different than a sentient being able to feel emotion, pain, and even empathy.

This was one of the best stories that I've heard thus far... The Clone Wars were brutal. It's so nice to hear a happy ending for once :D
Droids feels they just don't have faces to show their feelings
Hmm... I actually have that Clone Wars comic somewhere in my room, one of my favorites.
B1:what do you feel?
Grapple droid:cold....i feel so cold...
And then the ranchers found the grapple droid too right? And they lived happily together... Right?
winndypops yeah how could they not find that big guy? He Could help them at the farm, I mean he's a grapple Droid, heavy lifting and doesn't feel pain. That would be great for their farm.
Sib De Nihil true, plus the grapple Droid took the most damage from the fall, I think the farmers can fix the Lone Droid's arm only
the farmers could contact help to fix the grapple maybe?
Parrot !
I don't think the farmers had many galactic contacts seeing as they are farmers.
maybe
I remember reading a comic about a droid who deactivated near a tree and I thought it was sleeping. It was left there for so long, you could see all the seasons going by. Some people came by and I think picked it up
I just watched the ending, it is this one
I believe this droid is still out there, doing the farming for the original farmers grandson or something
Or he's actually R0-GR from "Lego Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures".
Not canon any more.
MisdaFire INFEXUS
The fans determine what is still canon, not some soulless corporation that doesn’t even respect the franchise.
@@AveTrueToCaesar8212 okay. But ya wrong
MisdaFire INFEXUS
Not really.
Lowkey teared up when the single battle droid said, "You don't have to be, you are not alone."
I like to think that the battledroid after being recharged and reactivated went and found the other Droid dragged it back to the farm and from parts from the battlefield rebuilt and reactivated it and then lived on that farm for generations helping that family become insanely successful
STOP! I wasn't here for the feels!
"Feel,don't think."-Qui-Gon-Jin
Jackson Carter stop! You violated the law!
Sorry, but there are no brakes on the feels train!
I guess even AI fears the long dark... I wonder if we will see The Lone Battledroid again?
I really hope so
Lazurkri in the bright side he has new purpose in life
for once I feel bad for a battle droid.
Timtim Gaming probably had a much longer life too
I have a fuzzy cat he's in a better place now, he's away from the cycle
I have a fuzzy cat Don't forget the one from the Clone Wars movie who fell off the Teth Jungle pillar just because he was trying to look at something. Heartbreaking.
That story almost made me cry. I'm so happy it got a happy ending.
Clone Trooper: "Boy those droids have it rough. I sure am glad I can think for myself instead of being forced to commit violent acts against my will due some programming."
It would make into a great pixar movie.
seva809 you're right! It would make a good Pixar movie.
the saddest pixar movie in existance
With Disney yeah
More like a short, but a good one
Seriously it would and if we like it or not now it is a possibility

cheese toasty If it's a joke don't call him a dip shit
And the other guy was just saying no need to be rude
Woooow... -.-
The droids are in my opinion, incredibly tragic. Many are *CLEARLY* sentient. But no one cares. The Jedi kill them without mercy. The clones call them clankers and hate them. Their leaders mercilessly annihilate in suicidal charges. And not even the fans look at this. Why cannot we have a true happy ending for then.
3.14 Dragon wars not pretty
3.14 Dragon cuz they are just droids, they are programed for war, nothing else. If it wasn't for the war, those droids would not exist. They just follow orders, and also, they dont have fellings. CUZ THEY ARE NOTHING MORE THAN IDIOT ROBOTS. Just kiddin, but is pretty much that
3.14 Dragon I'll should make a fan fiction story for that!!! (1 like = one bit of sympathy for droids everywhere)
CC-1138 Bacara Actually B-1 Droids were meant for general labor.
CC-1138 Bacara then u can say that about clones too then
The Lone Battle Droid staying with the Grapple Droid as he went offline, even though he himself had little time left, was an act of compassion that rivals the greatest of the Jedi.

this made me cry a bit and have so many feels, god dammit star wars. awesome story
This is Last Bastion levels of feels, I legit cried.
I'm a big fan of droids in SW ( because you can ponder about a lot things concerning them) this story is one more proof that droids in SW can became sentients beings, Hope, Fear of death, Acceptance... A simple construct animated by a program just can't experience this feelings
MrMolay44 The clone war was sad as hell becaude it pitted 2 organizations of warriors slaves who were for all intent and purpose sentient beings: the humans clones who had no say as to their life and career, essentially brainwashed slave soldiers, and the droids, capable of sentient feelings, slaved to a greedy confederacy.
the battle droids were also brainwashed, because they were initially programmed as bodyguards
The music fits perfectly, thank you for telling this story. It actually makes you empathize with the two, and I haven't ever had that happen before with a droid
What’s the music
Why did I enjoy this and want another video

This is why the clone wars in my opinion is the best era in all if Star Wars
Mykel Allen that's what I like about the war going on in the original trilogy vs prequels: They are both incredibly deep and interesting, but completely different.
The Clone Wars are cool because it's a full scale galactic war. With two entire armies fighting across thousands of planets.
But the Galactic Civil War is cool in a different way, it's not a war as much as an ant fighting a human, but somehow the ant wins.
JackTheRabbit32
The Clone Wars is an entertainment gold mine in the middle of its life.
Jackson Carter
No, I didn't know there was a book series. I'll look into that though!
Ribeiro da Silva Lopes João maria eh, killing them is more a mercy than letting them live. they are recycled and used in war if they are repairable
Well they're not conscious. this was a single case of droids escaping their programming. they're basically computers that can shoot
The droids wouldnt care. For it didnt fear its own mortality
HOLY SHIT I JUST REALISED THAT THIS IS HELLA SIMLIAR TO A TF2 ANIMATION! Well sorta of. I believe the TF2 sfm video is calles Defected.
Yeah. DEFECT_ was a saxxy winner with the same story, except instead of getting restored by farmers, that one ends with the bit (a sniper bot, if I’m not mistaken) getting incinerated in a factory
necro but holy shit I just realized this too
That was the most saddest moving star wars story I have ever heard, wow.
"Punches heart" Why the bloody hell am I sad? It's a bloody robot for pete's sake!
I wished this had been an episode of Clone Wars. Honestly one area I wish they had explored was making the Separatists more Sympathetic
That was such a sweet story 😭
My sister loves battle droids, it's good to see they have personalities and think for themselves.
This has to be the saddest story in all of Star Wars. It trully shows the level of sentience droids have
Drops Are Fun They're like actual people, underneath the joking and stuff they do they're actually afraid, nervous, anxious, terrified of what they're going to do.
It's R0GR (from the TV show freemaker adventures)
Missing arm
Loyalty to droid army gone

In conclusion it's R0GR
I wonder if those farmers can come across the grapple droid?

why didn't I think of that. That's a cool idea, since they were probobly close by to eachother.
B1 went back prob
The meaning of life, told by the Lonely Battle Droid.
Now what if the liberated Battle droids found a way to join up together and increase the amount of power they had and then they liberated other droids and those droids liberated more droids and those droids liberated more droids and then the liberated droids formed The Droid Rebellion and went to Geonosis and overthrew the recycling process and liberated all the droids then the droids decided to stay on Geonosis and a new self aware Droid Civilization began to rise and prosper. So what do you think?
Is there any more to this story if so please make another video on it
