The boys and their father are reunited after a long search for one another.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Director Juan Antonio Bayona follows up his critically-acclaimed feature debut The Orphanage with this drama set during the 2004 tsunami, and detailing one family's incredible fight for survival. Inspired by actual events, The Impossible opens on December 26th, as Henry (Ewan McGregor), his wife Maria (Naomi Watts), and their three sons lounge poolside following an eventful Christmas. But just as the family begins to forget their troubles and settle in for a relaxing tropical getaway, one of the worst natural disasters in modern history changes their lives in the blink of an eye. Meanwhile, as shock gives way to abject horror, the devoted parents fight to protect their children, encountering scenes heart-wrenching tragedy and experiencing acts of incredible compassion as the entire country of Thailand is engulfed in chaos. 7 years ago I burst out in tears watching this in the theathre. Now 7 years later, this is one of the only movie scenes, that, whenever I watch this, I keep getting tears in my eyes. I'm a 20 year old man. And no, I'm not ashamed either.

Whenever someone complains that child actors in film always feel fake or can't hold up their end on the acting level, I just link them to this scene...
Also "Room", "Stranger Things", "Logan", "Beasts of No Nation", "The Piano", and "Finding Neverland".
It's about casting and good directing. There are plenty of brilliant child actors, you just need to know how to pick them. Most of all, you need a director that knows how to work with them.

When Lucas screamed “Daddddddd!” it really strikes me. I can feel his emotions. Scared, Hope, Nervous, Panic and Sad. i was in this kind of situation where i got lost at a beach full with people in Krabi, Thai. it’s only 20 minutes i got lost. but damn i was so scared. the only way i did was screaming “ Ibuuuuu” (Mom in Malay language) and it worked. i was 9 at that time

What GREAT actors these young boys are, they captured how to share a beautiful moment of reuniting. This show was so wonderful.
I was watching this movie at school and at that very moment when Lucas reunited with his brothers and his Dad everyone in my class stood up and went: "YAY!!!!!"

This scene is gold. As well as being emblematic, it's very well thought out. I love that the boys ran to Lucas and he acted like the responsible older brother and took in the younger siblings, but when he saw his own father he ran away because he's just a child.
I'm not trying to be disrespectful but when the kids were running and shouting Lucas it sounded like my mom telling me to do my homework.

If he is the man I think he is, his wife and daughter did not survive. They found his wife's body but not his baby daughter's. He has given interviews in documentaries about the 2004 Tsunami.

It’s revealed in the end that the Dad who had a note he borrowed from him was the note the other man got from his Wife the morning the tsunami hit. Reading: “We’re both at the beach, see you soon. Possibly indicating that his wife and daughter didn’t make it.

This scene... one of the best ever. I've never, ever cried so much watching any movie scene, yet, this is a happy moment! It's fascinating. It makes you understand and appreciate how much you love your family. To think you could have lost them forever and learning they're alive and you're all together again - incredibly powerful.

This scene RUINED me but in the best way possible. As one of three brothers myself, when this scene played, I wept my freaking eyes out. Everything about this scene was done perfectly. The music. The performances. You name it. One of the few scenes to this day that whenever I see it, I still cry.

The thing that gets me in the scene is the people in the background. While this family is reunited the few people we can see ( as their reaction is not as important to the director) are either smiling, laughing or looking jealous. It just kind of strikes me that many of these people in real life may not have found their families and watching these four reunite must have been both uplifting and soul crushing at the same time.
I live in a tiny coastal town in Oregon. Population of less than 20 thousand. even we, in our safe haven half away around the world from this, felt the effects of this most tragic event. My BFF's 23 yr old daughter was lost while vacationing there. it was the most terrible time waiting to hear....anything! The searchers never found her.

I recently came across this movie on Netflix. I watched it just for something to do. Omg, this scene while holding my 4 month old son....I cried like a baby!!
After all this years Tom and Ewan are one of the best US Actors i ever saw...they can play everything and here Tom was only a child and it was his first role but i will never forget this...because the real story behind the film was more then sad for so many familys and this two actors played it as if it was their story and that made it even more amazing!

The boys did such an amazing job! I’ve honestly watched this one clip so many times now.
The crazy part about this is Lucas scream at the right moment and the right spot. If he screamed a minute after his brothers got on the truck, they would have lost forever. If he screamed when he was away from that spot, his brothers wouldn't have heard him.
Their acting is incredible, usually child actors arent great but this was really believable.
Me here remembering Peter being reunited with Tony ant endgame a few minuets till his death. 😭

The Tsunami scene in this movie (along with the Tsunami in ‘Hereafter’ (2010) has to be the most: chilling, realistic tsunami scene I’ve ever seen in a movie. There is no musical score whatsoever, it’s all complete happenstance, as your just watching all those innocent people mothers, fathers, children old men and women just get obliterated by the tsunami, as it destroys everything in its path. Just watching those innocent people get swept by the wave as they scream in agony as they get swept through the debris and bushes underwater. You can literally feel almost everything in this scene. This and ‘Hereafter’ are the most realistic tsunami scenes i have ever seen in a movie.
