I love how much thought you give your instructions. You always explain why you do things, like why you want to lower the temp or use a particular bean. You even consider dietary restrictions and give alternate options for ingredients. It really just makes your recipes so easy to follow. ❤️
Thank you very much for making this channel. My own mother doesn't have the time or patience to teach me. I don't want to lose my traditions either. You are very helpful and the steps are thorough!
Wow!!! I've been looking for a good recipe for these for years. All the ones I found online were vague about timing and technique and I was afraid to try. You explain everything so well especially the last three stages of cooking ♡ Thanks a million!
For 65 years I wanted to make mung bean mooncakes. Thank your for teaching me and for the free written recipe. Your thoughtfulness in putting the measurement in cup and spoon sizes are much appreciated.
my brother brought back these little mung bean tea cakes from vietnam that come wrapped almost like a bouillon cube and, when you open the foil, separate into four tiny pieces. they crumble and melt in your mouth and are so delicious! to order more of these cakes online or to have my brother send another package home would be way too expensive and i would much rather make them. i've made a lot of recipes from your channel and have never been disappointed so i am very thankful for this recipe! i will definitely be making some, if not this weekend, then very soon!
I made it with skin, and added some krewa (flower essence) and almond extract, it’s one of the best desserts I’ve ever had!! The texture is so delicious!!
Truly appreciate you sharing your recipes with us. I've made so many that you've provided without any fails or disappointment, they've been amazing. Thank you so very much, have a wonderful day. :-)
Mandy - OMG! I just cooked up the mung bean paste and it is sooo good! I can't stop tasting it! I'm going to use it to fill my sesame balls and it should taste fabulous! Thank you so much for the great job and I should check out your other recipes and also subscribe to your channel.
After watching many moon cake video, I finally decided on trying this mung bean mooncakes since I bought a large bag of organic peeled mung beans from the Indian market. I didn’t relish standing over the pot for 30 minutes stirring the paste so I used my KitchenAid Multipot w/Stirring tower. It works great for this recipe! The Mung Bean moon cakes taste wonderful. Thank you so much for your precise instructions. Applying your directions to the controls on the machine gave me the perfect texture and save my poor old arm… Now, I’m going to try the Snowy Skin moon cake with custard next. 6:01
I might cry, and my arm almost fell off, or so it feels, but so worth it! I halved the recipe and had to use a bit more water because otherwise it wouldn't cover the beans, but from soaking them ahead of time and watching carefully as they boiled, it was okay. Just meant I had to stir longer. I think I also got impatient in the mashing phase because my texture wasn't super smooth the way the videos looked, but it was so very delicious. I also had a minor mishap when transferring the dough out of the pot into a bowl to cool. I used the same bowl I had soaked the beans in, and I had rinsed it. There was about a teaspoon of water I didn't realize was in there until too late, so it got sticky again when it cooled enough to work with. 😅 I found a tip online looking up variations on this recipe to brush a tiny bit of a neutral oil on the mold to keep the cakes from sticking, and that worked great. Two of them came out glossy, but the rest were beautiful as can be. The glossy ones tasted so good 🤣. I ate them to taste test.
I made these using a different recipe and found the smell almost sweetcorn-like and the texture like mashed potatoes. I filled mine with red bean paste. They looked pretty once moulded but didn't hold shake when picked up like yours did, so I will use your recipe instead😊
Hi Mindy (?) , great recipe and easy too. I'm going to try it. One way to relieve the arm soreness is to stand on something a bit higher. I am pretty short and my counter is a little higher than is comfortable to do a lot of stirring. I stand on 2 old telephone books that are wrapped together. A step stool is too high. This puts me at the optimal height to comfortably stir at my stove or counter. Really enjoy your channel - thanks!
That sounds delicious and more healthy than many western deserts! I'm going to have to try this. If memory serves, you've said in the past that you have arthritis, and I do as well; it's good to hear that stirring the bean dough is still doable, as I'm finding some things getting more difficult or painful. I'm curious, though, how should I store these and how long do they last?
Very appreciated sharing us your lovely mooncake recipe, but may I know how long the storage time of this mung bean when in a packaging? Thank you so much
As I’m watching you making this mung bean cake I’m drinking my cold mung bean soup lol Thank You for sharing Mandy! How do I store them? In the refrigerator or leave them out in room temperature ?
Hello Love your channel! I was just wondering if the mung beans can be cooked in the insta pot like the method used for the red bean paste ? Thank you ❤
Hi, I also suffer with arthritis. I was wondering if you had any recipes or natural supplements that are good for arthritis and inflammation?? Thanks 😊
Hi! I love your Wok so much I bought TWO!!! Do you sell the spatulas that come with it? I bent one due to poor packing for a camping trip...they are not easy to bend or break! Thank You! Jamie
Are peas (or pea flour) or edible chestnuts a suitable substitute for this recipe? I's not that I have issue with mung beans, but I have those other ingredients available as well, just I don't want to waste them if there's no hope for good results. Maybe there are other beans suitable as well?
Can the mung bean paste be stored in the freezer? I want to try making moon cake, but I’m single so I don’t need several. And can the moon cake dough be frozen as well? Thanks.
How long do the mung beans need to soak before rinsing and simmering? I know you said “overnight”, but how long do you mean? Would 6 hours be enough? 8 hours? 12?…
Hey Mandy - can I use red beans to make your mooncake to come with a different color? I already save the yellow mung beans and I wanted a different color to make for my friends and family for the holidays. I plan on using the same recipe. Please advise and many thanks in advance 🙏!
I've tried making so many of your mooncake recipes, but my cakes always stick to my mold. What's your secret? Also, how long do these mung bean cakes keep for? Should they be stored in the refrigerator?
To prevent the mooncake from sticking, you have to cook the mung bean paste to a perfect consistency, which takes lots of practice. However, there is a short cut. You can roast some cornstarch in a non-stick pan over low heat for a few minutes. Use the cornstarch as a dusting powder to prevent the mooncakes from sticking. These mooncakes can stay good in the fridge for a week.
I love how much thought you give your instructions. You always explain why you do things, like why you want to lower the temp or use a particular bean. You even consider dietary restrictions and give alternate options for ingredients. It really just makes your recipes so easy to follow. ❤️

I watched other videos', it would seem steaming the beans instead =less stirring ( less water to evaporate) and thus easier on our poor arms :)

Could I put red bean paste in the center or does it not work together? Thanks xx
Try to make mung beans halwa
Yummy
Would it taste good if I added peach flower tea?
I have that moon cake mold
Can the mung bean paste be stored in the freezer? I want to try making moon cake, but I’m single so I don’t need several. And can the moon cake dough be frozen as well? Thanks.
Can you do it with other type of beans or it has to be with only mung beans?
Is the mung bean water good for drinking? ......or maybe plants? ......or something else?
Could you possibly use a hand held electric mixer to stir the dough at the end? My arms won’t hold up to that.
How do you store then and how long do they last?
How long do the mung beans need to soak before rinsing and simmering? I know you said “overnight”, but how long do you mean? Would 6 hours be enough? 8 hours? 12?…
Hey Mandy - can I use red beans to make your mooncake to come with a different color? I already save the yellow mung beans and I wanted a different color to make for my friends and family for the holidays. I plan on using the same recipe. Please advise and many thanks in advance 🙏!
Yes you can!
Will it still form a hard skin after shaping?
The Indian version of this is called Mung daal halwa.
nice to know that
Yum!!
Can we wrap it with a rice paste?
Can the golden syrup used in mooncake be substituted with honey?
I've never tried it can you tell me what kinda of flavor it is?
I've tried making so many of your mooncake recipes, but my cakes always stick to my mold. What's your secret? Also, how long do these mung bean cakes keep for? Should they be stored in the refrigerator?
To prevent the mooncake from sticking, you have to cook the mung bean paste to a perfect consistency, which takes lots of practice. However, there is a short cut. I love all your videos! When are these traditionally eaten? Only on special occasions? Are they more part of a regular staple in homes?
Mung beans are often eaten during the summer as we believe mung bean can help to cool down the heat LOL!
Chinese Indonesian usually eat mung bean bun as snack casually, no need special occasion. Probably because we are living in tropical South East Asia.
If I quadruple the recipe do I also need to quadruple the time?
Can you use moong dal
