- Hey guys, just wanted to show you my latest little project, my motorcycle carrier for the back of my truck. I get tired of trying to get the bikes in and out of the bed on my truck. even though I don't have a big truck, it's still a pain, and I usually have to ask someone to help me, which usually ends up being my wife. She doesn't like to do it because she's worried about the bike falling over, and I don't blame her for that.
So I finally did what I've been planning on doing for a couple years now, building a one man only carrier. I'm so glad I did build it, it only took a few hours to do, and it works perfectly. I've already taken the bike on a two hour drive for my trackday with no issues.
If you have any questions at all on how I built it, let me know in the comments and I'll get back to you as soon as possible.
As always, thanks for watching!

Great design. The only thing I'd change would be to load from the right side. That would make it easier to kick the jack down once I unload the bike. Also I wouldn't have to unload into the street, but into the sidewalk, if i have 2.
Both solid points. I mainly built it on that side because most motorcycles I've owned have the exhaust on the right side and I didn't want to worry about smacking the exhaust on my tailgate. But realistically I'm sure it would be fine on either side.
That looks better then the ones that I see for sale online
Asking my wife for help with anything like that is more trouble than it's worth, too. I've got to build one of those. Thanks for a good video.
Nice. I can’t see why the bike stands there by itself just because the front wheel is between the stops. But it obviously does. Good work. I love making stuff with my welder.
Thanks! I need to make an update video on this, it's still one of my favorite things I've made 👍
Yep well done simple but very efficient.i like it.
Thanks man, I'm actually building a new one right now, and I'm doing a full video to show how it's made. 👍 This one has served me very well over the last 3 years, but there's a couple improvements I want to make on the new one.
Much better than the old bumper carrier I used back when I was a teenager hauling my Yamaha DT250 on my 1979 Lincoln's bumper. These carriers have gotten much safer!
Amaizing job! Thanks for sharing. Regards from B A, Argentina.
Thank you! This is probably my favorite thing I've ever fabricated 👍
Can't do that with a 454 lb ZX-10RR. I have to run it at idle. I also upgraded my hitch to a Class 4 and used a solid 2" × 2" hitch arm. Also had two brace arms bolted to the bottom of the hitch to control yaw. Drove 1,987 miles out to Florida and back with zero issues.
great job. I think I will make the outriggers collapsible or removable though. If I kept it on the rig I would walk into it sooner or later.
I think one of the coolest things about making this video has been all the people offering their opinions on it, and I'm like, I should have thought of that! Removable out riggers is a great idea.
Awesome! Thanks for the video, gets me thinking...I have big GS, may make mine three hitch points so I'm not worrying about the weight.
Glenn S Sounds good! My favorite part about putting out this video are all the comments that people have given with ideas for improving my basic design, now if only I had a patent for it 😄
I really like the front tire lock. About to fabricate out of cargo carrier
This is a great idea. Think I’m going to do something similar but maybe with a wider base that comes off the hitch to support it.
Or at least some gussets too.
I trust my welds but I like peace of mind too lol
Good mate I just bought a bunch of steel to build one of these myself, got some design ideas from your video. I will be making it multifunctional so I can use it as a carry rack too for camping equipment etc
Sounds awesome! One of my favorite things about putting this video out is everyone has their input on how to make it better/more functional. I'm going to build an updated one soon that incorporates some of those ideas. 👍
this is awesome. You need to apply for patent. This is what I was eaxctly looking for in MC carrier
Gret job looks like ya did it right
love the tire lock...ill add that to mine...good ideah...cause half the time after biking u are tired af...haha fyi i found a used 500 pound dirt bike one..for 40$ cad....that's a steel!!!
Thanks bro I’m going to build one now.
Do it, it's my favorite thing I've ever fabricated, comes in handy all the time. 👍
Its the same as the trackside dirt bike carriers at cycle gear... Cool vid
Good job dude. I just have one suggestion. on the tube that goes into the hitch I would weld some bracing there. like the black widow motorcycle carrier. That way there will be less stress on those welds when you're driving. It would give me just a little bit more peace of mind when I'm driving with the bike on there. Just think about it bro because if that thing fails while you're driving down the highway and someone gets killed there's no one to blame because you made it. I'm always thinking about the what if. You know how people are these days looking for a quick dollar from someone else's pocket.
For sure, I actually feel the same way. I'm working on version 2 of this design now, hoping to incorporate more bracing there somehow. I will say that the primary tube that connects to the hitch is .25" wall tubing, and after three years and countless uses, there is no deflection or deformation of the tube that I can tell. Still, there's always room for improvement!
Good job👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks man, this video is about three years old now, I want to make an updated version with improvements and also more detail. I still love this thing! 👍
Important to note that you must have a hitch with a rated tongue weight appropriate for the load and your vehicle should also be rated to carry such a load.
My Reality absolutely!
Nice job
Thanks Marty, I've been using this thing for over three years now, works awesome!
Wicked 👍
I like the front wheel stopper and locking flip-gadget. I might add that to the rack I built using steel tube and aluminum U-channel. I bought twice the length of channel, so half became the ramp. I store the ramp by wing-nut fastening it (with lock washers!) parallel to and against the inside of the man track. Also, I added lights below the track, with some extra U-channel as housings around the lights. Bikes often block the vehicle's lights, and i didn't eever want to have that discussion with the Serve and Protect people.
Good call, it was always my intention to add some lights along the bottom of the rack for exactly the reasons you mentioned.
This is awesome bro, I've been pondering on how to build myself one of these for a while now and I love how simple yet effective your design is. Top effort.
Thanks for sharing. Looks great. I'd love some more specifics if you have time. Cheers!
Great Job , Thanks for Sharing. Be Safe Out There.
thats great sir really simple but great job
Great job mate well done, going to build one myself like the wheel gripper you have fitted
13 Motorsports you did an awesome job!
I think you did a very nice job on your bike carrier and looks awesome!
Thank you very much!
Cheers for that mate, that's just what I was looking to make! 👌
Biggest problem I can see is it loads from the drivers side of the vehicle. Which means when you park at the side of the road you will have to set your ramp in traffic and push your bike up the ramp while be in the middle of the street and oncoming traffic. This works in a large empty parking lot but in town , at the beach or in any public venue it will create problems for you.
declan duffy For sure I hear what you are saying. I’ve been using this thing for almost two years now, and the situation doesn’t come up very often where you are loading in the street, but it does happen from time to time. My thinking when building it was that the exhaust on almost all sport bikes is on the right side so I wanted that side of the motorcycle facing outward so there wouldn’t be any clearance issues with the tail gate. It’s also been pointed out since by other viewers that I’m more comfortable loading from this side since I’m left handed 😄
great carrier you have made there, thinking of making one for my old motorhome to carry my suzuki tu 250 ,got good info thanks again.
Nice.
Nice job I think I’ll try to build one, thanks for the video
Could I get some dimensions on the tubing ?
Very impressive. I bought a black widow for around $450. I like your longer ramp and your idea of cotter pins on the bolts holding the “flipper” wheel chock-superior to my store-bought. I’m a smaller dude however and getting the bike safely up the ramp is a real adventure (someday you’ll be old too, son). I’m considering mounting a winch. Winches are cheap. Only problem is having a place to mount it, power it, and run a pulley out front. That would be the bomb.
😄 You're not wrong Ray! I actually am making a redesigned version of this right now, that has a drop mount from the hitch so it's not so high up. I like the winch idea as well!
Awesome I like it good job my friend
awesome. you inspired me
Should start selling them I'd buy one
Ed Zupetz there’s brands that already do make and sell these
That was bad ass I love it,
Why not make the whole thing pivot to the ground so you don't need a ramp ??
I've seen something like that on the back of a motorhome before. It would be really neat, but I think on this project I was trying to keep it pretty simple overall, and easily portable from vehicle to vehicle.

Have to say an aluminum one for $1120.00 is not too bad Aluminum is so expensive.. They use Angle iron between the holding area thus the front wheel drops into the gab between the cross braces so you don't need a device to hold the bike in place while you tie it down..

13 motorsports Awesome Video, Brother!
I'd recommend you sell the plans. I don't weld, but my son is learning this year. I like the no trailer, license, title, registration control-crapola that this avoids. I would buy a set of plans, and as of when I watched this, over 47,000 people had watched it too! 4,700 (10%) x $10 = $47,000! There's everything right about getting paid for a proven great idea!
well done, although I think I would make it lower to the ground and put a drop from the hitch.
Great minds think alike, the new version has exactly that. 👍
Thanks
Nice job man! I like the simplicity of it.
Very nice
Nice! I like it, but i do have a question... Why not just buy or make a folding triple ramp and ride the bike up? Both feet safely on the ramp as you power walk the bike up. There for, not needing help from anyone and not sacrificing your bike in the event of a rear end collision.
Not a bad plan, every idea can be improved on :)
@@ReignitedAuto true, i was just curious if maybe you needed the extra room for track gear or what not? I do like like it alot though, its perfect for someone who has a suv.
Good job... Thanks for the video! 🙃
good job mate
Great Job Mate; Would you have a basic plans/video so I can follow. Many Thanks
I’m just wondering bout the tongue weight max.. because it mostly refers to max weight when towing for sway risks.. I just don’t know if the hitch Would rip off or what
Nice idea! have you think about to put 2 side brackets? Regards
Loved the video, going to try making one. What is the name or number of the part that tilts and holds the back of front wheel. Thanks
Check either of these part numbers on the harbor freight website and it'll get you there 👍
SKU(s)61670, 97841
Great idea thanks.
AWESOME STUFF ,, THUMBS UP
Excellent!!
Love it! Awesome build! If you can, could you share the dimensions for the build. I wondered what you used to connect the long 2x2's etc.
Thanks! I'm building one like yours and need to add a space for a Honda 2k gen.
Thankyou for putting your carrier to video. Could you please send me some more details of your plan. Regards Cameron (Darwin Australia)
Awesome build wondering how I could build something similar to load my Harley to my Hummer H2 SUT Pickup
I'm going to post an update soon for building one yourself, however, for putting a Harley on it I think you'd have to brace it up a little stronger, I only designed this thing to take about 500lbs total. Unless you've got a sportster your bike is likely heavier than that. I need to work on a more robust design for bigger bikes 👍
I've priced motorized lifts for an 800lb Harley in the $3K area. What about the highlighted ramp type with a steel cable winch (as on a boat trailer), either manual or motorized, to pull the bike forward rather pushing it?
I got to see you use it last week in person. It is beefy, and was really stable with the bike on it. I was impressed! So when are the track videos coming?!!?😁😆
Soon, trying to edit them now. But I hate to tell ya, most of the forward facing ones didn't turn out :( the camera was pointed too far down so I only got a lot of video of my gauge cluster.... only the first session was ok really. but the rear facing ones turned out great! haha.
I liked your rack, particularly the front wheel holder feature! Any drawings, patterns or info on the Harbor Freight piece?
jb
It looks great works well is it possible to get the dimensions of it as it’s a bit heavier duty than the ones you buy thanks
hey - good bit of engineering.
hi nice rig, can you tell us de distance from the pivot pin of the wheel lockthingy to the vertical stop? thanks
I've got the front wheel chock from cyclegear. The pivot point measures 18 1/8" from the resting point of the front end of the tire. For my 120/70 17 front tire... Locks it in perfectly.
This is a great idea and I have searched here in the UK for something to use similar for my Landrover discovery 3. The problem for the Landy is the nose weight is not enough to cary my old Africa Twin. Any help you can give me will be most welcome.
Exelent
Hey man any way I can get the plans off you to build that
Awesome man! I’d like what you used etc! Thx.
Working on an updated version now, I'll get you a link to the video when it's up 👍
Its awesome
I was thinking of buying such as a thing myself if there one exists.
I'm not sure if anyone makes one exactly like mine with the flip style for the front wheel. But with their increased popularity lately I wouldn't be surprised if there is one just like it before long. Thanks for watching!
thanks for your videos , please can you put sizes , long ,wide, how far from the truck bumper, etc ,thanks.
Awesome build!but You’re a big man look easy for you pushing on and pulling out the bike, but someone small guy or skinny guy I don’t think they’re be able to pull out the bike.
I would have it turned around to get to the side stand easier
thanks for the video, do you know the bike's weights?
right around 500lbs
Good day sir, how do you connect the bike rack to the body of the car, hoping for your next vlog so that people know where is connected
Right into the receiver
Well done, will a bike like yours be able to be carried in a carrier on a tacoma or frontier pickup?
Shouldn't be an issue at all. I think there would be a negligible difference between my half ton and a frontier, only real difference might be width, but I wouldn't have any concerns.
@@ReignitedAuto Thanks! Subscribed, keep up the good work.
I've got a R51 pathfinder. Definitely needed airbag supports installed.
Im looking to build one for a atv that weights 700lbs so I was just wondering for comparison
Nice
I like it I like to biuld one could you put together a cut sheet for the steel thanks
ever try this with a road king?:)
I'm going to go with a solid NO on that one :)
Awesome!!
do you have a prroblem with the out rigger hitting your bumper or straps rubbing your bumper?
Nope, it's worked perfectly in the 3 years since I've built it. I'm actually making a new one right now that has a 6" drop built into the hitch to make for easier loading. 👍
@@ReignitedAuto Be careful with the drop as pulling in and of driveways or parking lot entrances with the carrier so far behind the rear axle you may end up dragging. May want to put some small wheels like you see on some low slung motorhomes on the rear of the rack to safeguard against it.
Actually unless the bike is broken down why not start it and put it in first gear and walk beside it and let it pull its own self up the ramp and onto the carrier?
I have always put my bike in gear after loading even if manually loading to help maintain the bike in position on the carrier as a safety precaution.
Actually another reason to load from the passenger side of the vehicle as then the gearshift and the kickstand will be on the side of the bike you are guiding it onto the carrier from.
I have one of the regular harbor freight hitch carriers and have loaded a KLR650 up using that method although that in my opinion is pushing it weight wise for a receiver hitch carrier regardless of what it is made from.
All that weight is still technically bouncing up and down on one 2" piece of square tubing being held in by a single hitch pin!
My opinion if you are going to be carrying a bike that weighs more than about 350 lbs regularly I would get two of the step bumper receivers and weld up some brackets to mount them to the vehicles frame rails to make the carrier have 3 mounting points to better distribute and carry the weight more evenly across the entire carrier and also to eliminate the stress and any sway from side to side movement which only using the single center hitch attaching point is subjected too.
What is the weight of your bike..and you do long run i am a snow bird from Quebec i have scooter 480 pounds anny advise many Merci i use a express 1500 wit 5000 hitch tow ..
Can you please share the link of the flipper to lock the tire.
Looks very well made, do you have the dimensions of how you made it? Looking to build one for a trip from Iowa to Kentucky and back. Thanks!
Do you have any measurements? I’m looking to build one for my sons Moto cross bike for Xmas and I really like the way you built yours.
Hi chief, do you have any dimensions for the build?
How much would you charge to make one that would carry 1000 pounds motorcycle
How's the weld holding the platform to the 2" tubing holding up and did you end up reinforcing it at all? Also did you do anything to tighten up the tubing to receiver connection slop?
If buy that in a heartbeat! Have you thought of making a few & selling them? I’m in the market for my ZX6R stunt bike. Before I buy one, I would like to know if your willing to make one & sell it. I would be willing to pick it up..I’m in the Midwest. Give me your thoughts. Serious buyer..
Hi i like build one like this so please can you help with this
can you please tell me how did you do this ?
do you thank this is safe
Silly question, is there any purpose on why you built it so you load your bike from the driver side instead of the passenger side? Good job looks sturdy and I like the idea of the swivel to hold your bike.
Actually there is a reason, most sportbikes have the exhaust exit on the right side of the bike, so i made it this way because you don't have to worry about clearance to the tailgate when you load the bike. Thanks for watching!
Another positive is that you have the front brake within easy reach to keep control of bike. Great vid!!
Loading curbside while parked at the side of the street enables you to have less of an incline on the ramp.
I was guessing how much your bike wight
I think full of fuel it's just under 500lbs.
Ill trust it as bout as far as I can stand watching this video...
Ouch, well I've been using it for over three years now with no issues 🤔
@@ReignitedAuto Wow really? Thats good, my opinion has changed as result of this great video and conversation. Keep posting the great videos!
could u add link for wheel swivel

Hey may in looking for the plans to build that carrier. I'm looking to transport my cbr1000 and still use mu bed for luggage. Is there anyway you could map out your build up and give me an idea.
I had a joe hauler it sucked I welded an reinforced it,it still sucked
Don't you think this would brake the hitch of you travel for 24 hours straight?
