Funny story, ever wondered why still has the shorter, less powerful 120 mm L44 main gun on the Abrams instead of the more modern L55? It's because of exactly this reason. When the US adopted the Rheinmetall 120 mm L44 they thought it was too complex and replaced the hydraulic recoil mechanism with what is essentially a large steel spring on the M256. When Rheinmetall then developed the longer, more powerful L55 gun they designed it in such a way that it could be dropped into tanks already fitted with the L44, same center of mass and all. The modified M256 had a different center of mass. When the US then trialed the L55 designated M256E1 they found the stabiliser on the Abrams couldn't handle the higher weight and center of mass, requiring a complete redesign of the stabiliser, which congress deemed too expensive. And that's how the Abrams still has a 80s gun. The Germans are currently on the L55 from the 90s, and currently introducing the higher pressure L55A1 from the late 2010s. They are essentially two m,ain gun generations ahead because the US thought a hydraulic recoil system is too complex. Way to handycap yourself. Since then Abrams fanboys have made up dozens of theories to justify it. Ranging from "DU ammo makes up for it" (it doesen't) to "shorter L44 barrel is better in urban combat" (well yes, there however also is a higher pressure L44A1). In reality congress was just stingy.

Yeah, that Säbel's series is very interesting to watch. The part about the autoloader kinda opened my eyes - they went for this design because it can be faster as only one round is in motion instead of the whole drum or belt/chain. This is a bit speculation but i would guess that the Pzh2000s maintenance effort is also caused by the fact that it survives. A M777 howitzer doesnt need any maintenance if it gets hit by counter artillery fire after having shot 200 rounds.

You forgot about the Computer assisted targeting system. It’s able to fire automatically 5 rounds in chain to hit one or more targets within a few seconds difference. The system calculates the angle of shooting so good that they fire 5 rounds and all 5 rounds hit within a few seconds, so the target(s) have no time to react. And like the others said, if the Autoloader is not working because of a lack of maintenance or damage you can still reload the old fashion way. Greetings from Germany 🇩🇪
There are at least three main reasons for the Zweitausend's low losses, and two of them are its disadvantages, so I wouldn't use Ukraine as an example:)
you forgot the best thing about it, it can fire 5 rounds in a special fire mode, so all 5 are hitting the target area at the exactly same time, while the PzH has already moved away. This Artillery was designed especially for that, it was a huge success to make that work.

It was designed in the late stages of the Cold War to survive enormes potential Soviet counter battery fire. To do that, the Germans wanted a howitzer that could fire 10 rounds really fast and get out of its position even faster. It was not designed for staying stationary and fire all day round.
@@normalyoutuber8234 I would say it is a mixture of quality and quantity. If the quality of your stuff is better than the other guy...and you can still produce your stuff in decent numbers, then you will be victorious. The problem is that having just a few very high quality war machines ,because you chose to spend so little on your defense, isn't going to amount to much when the stuff hits the fan.
Over-Engineered...??? The PzH2000 is a old Design of the 90s. No surprise that the new RCH155 is so far sophisticated compared to the workinghorse PzH2000.
Just casually stealing Bundeswehr footage and even having the audacity to blur the BW logo at the beginning of the video. You could have just credited them!
The successor is already engineered. It has the same gun but needs only two people, is fully automated, can shoot while driving and still hit because the shot is cracked when the computer has the barrel on target. And the chassis is on wheels what needs much less fuel.
"Over-Engineered" is the wrong word. It´s a negative term to describe something that is unnessesary complicated without a real benefit. "Well-Engineneered" would be a better word.
fun fact there are ammonition for this howitzer that can make a range of over 100km away and the chance of not hitting the target is low and if yes only 1m away
"Insanely over-engineered German technology" apparently just means "much better, than the rest" in american. Because it isn't overengineered. It's just really well done. Or, as we Germans would say "Might actually gonna try for real next time." Seriously, this is peanuts. It's an obligation, to hold up our high standards, that we have for ourselves.
But it is no longer state of the art, that is now the RCH-155. The first self-propelled howitzer that can fire accurately while moving and only needs a 2-man crew and can also travel long distances without a transporter (railway / low loader).
God, that thing… The RCH 155 is overhyped, and that's its main "feature". Firing on the move decreases accuracy compared to firing while stationary while providing no real benefits. Yet another example of "German (over)engineering".
@@olekzajac5948no. The main feature is automation and modularization. It's faster, equally as accurate as the PzH2000, more modular (the AGM can be used on various vehicles) and on top it can also shoot while driving.
Love that the successor is currently in trials and that one is able to perform such feats like simultaneous impact while driving, so quick "shoot & scoot" is no longer even required.
Ukraine has ordered 100 of them - unlike what was said in the video. This can be looked up in the Internet. And it's not the most modern one. The most modern howitzer from KMW is the RCH 155 which can even shoot and move faster than the phz2000.

Ukraine struggled, due to lack of maintenance schooling (due to sped up training) and having to conduct life video calls with the german maintenance crews, to fix minor issues of the system, that would be fixed on the routine daily service of trained crews.
The AGM turret itself? Actually a decent design, as it improves on the Zweitausend's main issue (the autoloader's poor reliability when the vehicle's interior is dirty) by getting rid of the turret crew. The whole system however (the AGM turret on the Boxer) is designed around a flawed concept of firing on the move, so it's a bad design from the very beginning.
Sure, compared to what the Russians manufacture, it's over engineered. But then, just look at what has happened to Russian manufactured weapons in nearly all the wars in the past 70 odd years. And I'm betting that if that complex autoloader fails for some reason the engineers have made sure the howitzer can still be loaded by hand.
Of course it can. At like 2 rounds per minute:) The problem about this particular autoloader is that it's very susceptible to any kind of dirt or mud, so the vehicle's interior must be kept perfectly clean in order for the autoloader to function.
@@olekzajac5948 Claiming the obvious doesn't make you sound more intelligent. There is hardly an autoloader in the world, and I include machine guns here, that are not susceptible to any kind of dirt or mud.
@@mikethespike7579 That's not what I meant. The autoloader of the PzH 2000 is located under the turret floor. The floor that the crew walks on, with their dirty boots. This is a design flaw as all the dirt eventually ends up under the turret floor, so in the autoloader mechanism. And we see that in Ukraine, where the crews have to wear either spare crocs or shoe covers inside, and every Zweitausend comes equipped with a Kärcher vacuum.
@@olekzajac5948 As far as I have seen on videos of this weapons platform, the autoloader takes up most of the room inside the turret. The design leaves no room for crew members to walk around in there. It's not designed for that. Including a vacuum cleaner as part of the basic equipment sounds like a good idea. Maybe all armoured vehicles could benefit from such an idea.
@@mikethespike7579 Yes, the interior not being spacious is another disadvantage, be it a slight one:) But on a more serious note, the crew still needs to get out of the vehicle and into it, for example to resupply the ammo, go to sleep and so on. And when it's muddy outside, the dirt gets into the vehicle on the crew's boots and eventually ends up jamming the autoloader. That's why a design located in the turret bustle would be better.
WW2 quantity Is way . Ukrajina today quantity Is way .And long range missiles air or ground, nato has not long range patriot needs 500km . Gps ammo Is too problem. Atd
To be clear I'm a big fan of the PzH, the fact that the autoloader has 37,419 more moving parts than necessary does not mean it's a bad system.

Did you even spend more than 10min researching for this Video? There is so much missing and wrong Information in this Video, it's stupifying.
I should know, I was commanding 4 of those beauties for years
Important information: These howitzers were designed in the 1990‘s.
80´s
It was designed in the late stages of the Cold War to survive enormes potential Soviet counter battery fire. To do that, the Germans wanted a howitzer that could fire 10 rounds really fast and get out of its position even faster.
It was not designed for staying stationary and fire all day round.
Eine wunderbare Waffe und bin auch Stolz auf ihr gedient zu haben.
"Quality over quantity"
"Jeez guys chill out,i just commented this. And now theres a fight
That didn't work for the Germans the last time.
@@vonbennett8670 "Well yes.But how about now?
@@normalyoutuber8234 I would say it is a mixture of quality and quantity. If the quality of your stuff is better than the other guy...and you can still produce your stuff in decent numbers, then you will be victorious. The problem is that having just a few very high quality war machines ,because you chose to spend so little on your defense, isn't going to amount to much when the stuff hits the fan.
That's exactly what some executive at rheinmetal thought 115 yrs ago😅
@@vonbennett8670bro thinks Germany lost 1v1 😂😂
Over-Engineered...???
The PzH2000 is a old Design of the 90s.
No surprise that the new RCH155 is so far sophisticated compared to the workinghorse PzH2000.
Just casually stealing Bundeswehr footage and even having the audacity to blur the BW logo at the beginning of the video. You could have just credited them!
It would only be overengineered if it made all the inscriptions on the shells facing forward upon loading.
😉🙃🌹😁
As a german, i love this thing and it looks like a damn factory inside 😂
The successor is already engineered. It has the same gun but needs only two people, is fully automated, can shoot while driving and still hit because the shot is cracked when the computer has the barrel on target. And the chassis is on wheels what needs much less fuel.
They are putting the ssme functionality on a new variant of the pzh2000
"Over-Engineered" is the wrong word. It´s a negative term to describe something that is unnessesary complicated without a real benefit.
"Well-Engineneered" would be a better word.
I love it how Vexr just waits a couple of seconds before speaking like doing an intro of the Panzerhaubitze 2000
They also come with a beer holder by default ;)
fun fact there are ammonition for this howitzer that can make a range of over 100km away and the chance of not hitting the target is low and if yes only 1m away
If you drive a Porsch then you know why this tank is so dangerous.
Tztz da hatte die Panzerhaubitze ihren Abc Lüftung nicht an . Sieht hat man wieviel rauch in den Innenraum ausgestoßen wurde .
Over-estimated😂
"Insanely over-engineered German technology" apparently just means "much better, than the rest" in american. Because it isn't overengineered. It's just really well done.
Or, as we Germans would say "Might actually gonna try for real next time." Seriously, this is peanuts. It's an obligation, to hold up our high standards, that we have for ourselves.
But it is no longer state of the art, that is now the RCH-155.
The first self-propelled howitzer that can fire accurately while moving and only needs a 2-man crew
and can also travel long distances without a transporter (railway / low loader).
God, that thing…
The RCH 155 is overhyped, and that's its main "feature".
What on earth is over-engineered?

Beautiful autoloader system. Best in the world.
Everyone: Germany will never lose another artillery battle.
Germany: Doch!
Im Croatian, was so surprised to see our crest at 0:28, didnt even know we had those lol!
“There’s a loose wire connection in here somewhere Private I need you to find it”
Fantastic video as well.
Seeing this video showed me why ukrainians report wearing muddy boots interferes with the operation. Half the autoloader is in the floor
this is definately something you dont want to repair in the battlefield.
This is a quite insane underperforming video! 😂
Over engineered is an understatement 😂
the label is not true at all^^
Nothing is ever over-engineered. Only overly complicated.
its not overengeneered its just well build
Ukraine has ordered 100 of them - unlike what was said in the video.
This can be looked up in the Internet.
And it's not the most modern one.
The most modern howitzer from KMW is the RCH 155 which can even shoot and move faster than the phz2000.
Geniuse, of course!!! ;-)
This sounds funny for a nation of Plywood house owners :)
As that one jojo character once said
DOITSU KAGAKU WA SEKAI ICHI
So here we are in the modern age, a Mixture of the G.W. E100 (GeschützWagen E100) and Jg.Pz. E100 (Jagdpanzer E100) combined make the Panzer Howitzer 2000
The Chassis is elongated to the leo 2, to fit in the autoloader. Thr project that was based on the leo 2 chassis was a failure.
Over-engineered.. lol...
Not a word about its ability to shoot 5 grenades in different trajectories, so that all the grenades arrive at the same time at the same place.
Kabooom...
All modern SPHs can perform MRSI fire missions, that's not unique to the Zweitausend…
Z is zet.
It's not over-engineered. This should be standard.
these things are so big man like im about 183cm and im so tiny next to it
Der Wille zur Kunst.
Its definitely not over engineered
@vexrmedia where do you find all this military footage!? it's awesome! love the channel!

Anglos: Germans over-engeneered it.
Looks imo so much like the ww2 nashorn. Without the high tech ofcourse

Over-Engineered and talking about a 24 Year old Artillerysystem... look at the Donar or the RCH155
Dope video
They build portable manufacturing factory for their soldier..
998 hp just 2hp more and it could be Over-engineered 1000hp howitzer.
Actually, the ukrainian war shows that the "duration of use" from pzh is not so good developed, but for defense, this is the very first time that the pzh is beeing serious used. Need a lot of spare parts cause of the "wear and tear". "But Hans we need a better Transmission" "ruclips.net/video/hVLYtUZbc6M/видео.html xD

Orcs cant build that 😅
PMCSing this thing has to be a nightmare
PMCS?
@@zhufortheimpaler4041 its like maintenance inspections that we would do every week, something with this many moving parts seems like it would be a nightmare.
@@schuckycheems ah. well a friend of mine serves on a PzH2000 in the Bundeswehr.
he voiced no complaints so far, on the contrary, with the 5 man crew, maintenance is quite easy.
Ukraine struggled, due to lack of maintenance schooling (due to sped up training) and having to conduct life video calls with the german maintenance crews, to fix minor issues of the system, that would be fixed on the routine daily service of trained crews.
over-engineered? What is the RCH 155 from KMW then?
At like 2 rounds per minute:)
The problem about this particular autoloader is that it's very susceptible to any kind of dirt or mud, so the vehicle's interior must be kept perfectly clean in order for the autoloader to function.
@@mikethespike7579 Yes, the interior not being spacious is another disadvantage, be it a slight one:)
But on a more serious note, the crew still needs to get out of the vehicle and into it, for example to resupply the ammo, go to sleep and so on. And when it's muddy outside, the dirt gets into the vehicle on the crew's boots and eventually ends up jamming the autoloader. That's why a design located in the turret bustle would be better.
