Mate, the best thing about not knowing much about this model Jaguar is that you will both have a great time learning about it.

Will be a great car with the manual conversion. The lacklustre 3 speed auto was the real weak link in the XJS, sapping the performance of that magnificant V12.

Hi, I shall be converting my convertible to a manual during the coming winter. I already have the gearbox, clutch, and pedal box. During the last two or three years I have also overhauled the front and rear sub-frames. Though before you do anything else take the bonnet off and check ALL the water hoses and fuel lines to the injectors, if they are hard, and you can’t squash them with you fingers, replace them right away. I also have a smell of petrol in the boot and even though I’ve replaced all the fuel Ines, it is still there. The only option now, I think, is to take the tank out have it tested for leaks and then go from there.
I would also recommend that you take off all the earth leads by the battery and clean them, poor earths are the cause of a lot of problems in my view. You will no doubt be removing lots of bolts and nuts, so I would also recommend that you now start soaking them with WD or Plus Gas. Best of luck, it has certainly kept me busy.

Thanks for the comment - sounds like a good project 🙂. Since doing this video I have replaced the front subframe and earthing points. More episodes to follow…

The smell in the boot will be an out of position vent tube. Been there done that.

This being my first visit to your channel I would like to compliment you on your meticulous care of the 'new' car, I'm the same way, it has to be right or I'll make it that way. My last was a 1977 Chevy 3/4 ton pick-up. I had to put everything back to the way it was originally, I got it ready to go to the paint booth and got broadsided, totalling it out, bent the frame, twisted the cab, I actually cried when no one was around. That was my last attempt at restoring a vehicle. I'll be watching episode #2 next and follow you as you progress, thanks for filming this and all you do to upload this for all of us to enjoy. Be safe. B.T.

You are LIVING the dreams of the many of us for whom some of are FAVOURITE cars aren't QUITE right. Some cars have automatic transmissions when we want a manual one...and so forth. Too many of us have abandoned our dreams and just...settled. Not you, though! Mahalo for showing us how you make your dreams (and by extension, our dreams) become reality. Enjoy your fascinating journeys. We'll stand on the sidelines salivating over these creations of yours!

I was interested in the gearbox conversion,as I know that would be a pretty awkward job... Just regarding the tuning,,checkout "Harrys Garage" ..he spent an absolute fortune on his JaguarXJ V12

For somebody who admits to not knowing much about those cars I am puzzled how you are going to overhaul it.
