I won a Nickelodeon sweepstakes, but was informed we couldn’t accept the prize because my mother worked for CBS television as a software engineer, and the contract for her company had some issue to prevent being bribed by other television companies with prizes/sweepstakes or something crazy.
As a child, it was devastating. Its almost like winning the lottery jackpot only to find out that it will be taxed at rate of 100%.
omgggg so sad! what was the sweepstakes for?
@@thecatjonas it was for the 10th anniversary of rugrats in the year like 2000 or 2001.
My older sister sent in a post card, and we got a call on our landline phone that we won a trip for our whole family to hollywood to meet the creators of rugrats and to be animated into an episode or something wild like that. She also was supposed to get some small limited edition toy of angelica from rug rats (which was my sisters favorite character even though angelica was the antagonist).
I am from the east coast, and to this day have never been to the west coast. They were literally going to animate me and my sister into the cartoon we liked, but no.
No trip to hollywood. They couldnt even send my sister the little plastic toy. My mother didnt know my sister sent in the post card, because she would have said it was pointless.
Btw we also won one of those “nelson family” things where they monitored what shows you watched as a sort of census of what shows are good/bad in the mid 2000’s. The nelson family thing was completely random and you dont enter to be picked, they just pick you based on demographic and location.
We couldnt do that either. That alone might have been the reason that dank shows like el tigre and my life as a teenage robot (before the reboot) got cut from Nickelodeon. We ALWAYS watched those shows.

Ah of course, they would have had to pay taxes on the cruise/ prize money
My siblings made a danimals crush cup video where they were robots who could only eat crush cups because that was the only snack they could fit in their claws and eat. They legitimately placed as finalists and received a very shabby, cheap plastic magenta camcorder!

Ashley!!! Thank you so much for featuring my contest entry!!! Even though I (cardboard box girl) didn’t win, I would still push an apocalyptic meteor right back into outer space JUST for you 💖
If anyone is curious as to my approach, I think I was around 13 years old when I made my entry and if I recall correctly, the contest actually had an explicit prompt. That prompt was "how have Danimals Crush Cups changed your life?" and I remember thinking that was the dumbest fucking question I had ever heard so I answered accordingly. There were also certain qualifying criteria for the video to even be considered; for instance you had to feature the logo at some point on the screen. You also had to be consuming a crush cup in the video but I was too poor and my parents would not buy them despite my offer to pay them back with my $10,000. So if you notice when I actually slurp from the cup, it's just a walmart yogurt cup with red construction paper taped on lmao.

So much has happened in Cole’s life that it’s completely understandable how he would get the sweepstakes mixed up. Due to his filming schedule at the time, him going on a cruise vacation with a fan obviously wasn’t likely.
And that's the point of sweepstakes!
I like how our generation has all these nostalgic gems and mysteries to reminiscence on. now that we’re older and all connected through the internet it’s all just great
It's so weird seeing Dylan and Cole meet people and act like full grown adults when they're like 14. Looking back I think "Jesus, these are kids, who let them be this famous??"
That goes for all child actors, but I feel like that era of Disney specifically had some seriously young mega stars
Yeah working in theater and entertainment as a child you’re basically getting a job at a young age that consumes a lot of your time that you would be spending with other kids your age.
It looked like they couldve been already 18. At least how they carried themselves.
@@johnindigo5477 nah, that was when they were like 14-15. And teen stars have training to appear older than they really are so people don't feel weird seeing it. Plus when you've met as many people as they had at that time combined with the star power, they were just meeting someone for a few minutes and then bouncing, no big deal. Even Cole mentioned in that clip that he feels it was a weird time in his life
Dylan and Cole have been acting since they were small children. They were the little boy in Adam Sandler's Big Daddy, to mention one of their early works. Their apparent maturity simply comes from experience doing this for so long. And yes "they" for Big Daddy. With kids that young, if they have twins they swap them out to keep them from getting too irritable.
It's called maturity, something extremely lacking these days
The reason why all these brand contests have a "no purchase necessary" disclaimer is that paying for essentially a raffle ticket technically classifies the sweepstakes as gambling under United States law. Including an option to enter for free is a loophole as no one is required to pay for anything at that point. Granted, they make entering for free as convoluted as possible, but the option is there and the government can't do anything.
I see somebody has watched their food theory episodes
I'd bet they had a standardized gift package / basket for the Sprouse twin sweepstake winners. Just like, in a room somewhere some assistant has to go grab before each meet & greet.

Now that you mention it… I was obsessed with this contest as a kid and at some point my mom said she had won a poker game or something that was enough to take me and my brother on a Caribbean cruise, specifically Caribbean. Two schools in my area won celebrity apperences. My sister's school won a texting contest to have Taylor swift perform (after they found out the #1 winner cheated by using bots) and my rival school won an apperence from the cast of ICarly.
People were very upset about the ICarly apparence because the highschool decided to invite elementary schoolers over and the school assembly room was full, so they put students in overflow rooms to watch the assembly on TV. Parents and students were outraged
They invited ELEMENTARY school students for a HIGH SCHOOL assembly? that's fucking nuts! The elementary school had nothing to do with the iCarly contest!
I would've been PISSED. But obviously pretending not to care, because I was "too cool" for iCarly in high school.
I see you were having difficulty, so it's spelled "appearances"
What state? I’m assuming it was a California only contest
My school won an appearance by Danity Kane who I'd never even heard of before that lol I didn't end up going to it
I don’t know if anyone care about this particular one, by my elementary school (partially) won the “playground renovation” sweepstakes. (Bare with me for the info because I was like 8 or 9 when it happened) Basically we were participating in it for a while, got a report back that we were in the top 10 or something like that. Because of that we got some prize money, it was enough to change one thing about our playground. The school then had us do a whole poll on what we would want to be implemented on our playground, and we were supposed to get it that coming fall. We ended up voting for a swing set, but when we came back in the fall, it wasn’t there. From what the lunch aids had told all of the upset children at the time, we did get money, the school just decided it wasn’t safe to have swings. So instead they used the money to replace all the Mulch around our play area, it was the most devastating thing to a group of excited elementary schoolers.
Lol, that's so sad!
Aw, that’s a shame! My school was one of the winners and we actually did get a new playground. I remember we were all doubtful about whether or not it would really happen, but it did and it was a huge upgrade from our previous one.
I’m sorry your school ruined it for you guys. I was afraid my school would, too, but luckily that wasn’t the case.
Swings to dangerous for kids? Really???
I think the school just wanted to pocket the money and made up some excuse.

Not sure which Disney contest it was, but our school won a brand-new playground. I was probably in third grade when I remember our principal calling everybody into the cafeteria for a random assembly and began drawing names out of a hat. The actual name drawing wasn’t real because there was only one name in the hat and it was the girl who had entered the contest. He revealed that to the whole school after he called her name and brought her to the stage to explain the situation. The new playground was definitely an upgrade from the old one, I remember it took almost a whole year for the actual new playground to be put in. From what I remember it had a rock climbing wall with a dinosaur fossil on the opposite side of the rock hinges, also some large slides and other features that I were just standard playground things like monkey bars and telephone cones. The school is Pease Magnet Elementary School in Midland, Texas. Also I think she won $10,000 cash for the school as well. I am 21 now but I hope this story is a puzzle piece to help with these quirky searches for random contest winners !

She's the type of kid I'd want to be friends with in elementary school
Her sense of humor was ahead of its time and I’m glad she filmed it for all to see
it's so strange that they met the kid in this windowless room in the hotel. I know they want to keep it low key, but there at least could have been a small private home, or condo, lobby or studio space to rent for the meet up.
He met the cast on set the following day.
Well they gotta keep it as cheap as possible of course. Otherwise they won't take as many profits from all the extra danimals the sweepstakes sold.
I have a couple theories as to why it’s nearly impossible to find the winners:
1. So for a lot of contests like these the winner can opt for a cash prize instead that’s equivalent to the prize, like the cruise for example if you don’t want to go than you can opt for the cash prize which would be the amount the cruise would cost. So the families of the kids that won could’ve done that instead whether that be if they weren’t comfortable with their child being an announced winner for the public to see or if they had scheduling conflicts that prevented them from going on the trips cause you had to go on the date set it’s not go whenever you want
2. This theory just applies to the trips. So like the video said as well as the fine print in the commercials that Cole and Dylan wouldn’t be on the trip with the winners it’s just a regular vacation payed for by danimals. So for the cruise of 5 winners that didn’t have that disclaimer my guess is they planned to announce the winners after the cruise and have pictures of the winners having fun on the trip but the kids got upset when Dylan and Cole weren’t there with them and the parents got mad at danimals and potentially evened threatened to take legal action against them cause they were under the impression that they would be there, so danimals decided not to announce the winners to avoid the pr nightmare that would’ve resulted and if they didn’t announce it and these people tried to go public with what happened there would be no evidence to prove that these people were the winners
3. Disclaimer for this last one it only applies to SOME of the contests and not all of them since there are people who have gone public saying they won a certain contest (whether or not they were truthful is questionable). So the theory is that certain contests were just a marketing scam by danimals to get you to buy their product and there was no prize being offered hence why it’s hard to find the winners cause they’re aren’t any. Remember in order to enter the contests you had to buy a danimals product and redeem the code that came with it in the website, every code redeemed made them money in product sales cause each one meant a product of their’s was bought. So each entry meant nothing cause they never planned to give a prize to someone and the whole thing was a scam to get you to buy the product, which is enticing buy a $7 product and get a chance to win a prize or trip that costs hundreds of dollars. It could explain why there’s no public winners and why it said Dylan and Cole wouldn’t be there (besides prior obligations to other products) cause there was nothing to be there for.
These are just my theories and nothing more, I don’t have any connections with anyone who has ever worked for danimals
The amount of effort, for thought and time that you spent on this video, about who may or may not have won a sweepstakes that happened 13 years ago, based on a commercial that all of us saw but had completely forgot about. Is impeccable. I hope this video blows your channel up because this video is so well made, and the research is on point. Great job.

@@MichellaneousMe damn that's nuts. Disney was making stacks hand over fist, sounds like they hardly knew what to do with it
In college, I remember there was a flyer where I could study a semester on sea. It wouldn't be a nice cruise ship, but a much smaller ship. I really wanted to do it but I didn't have the $20,000 dollars in cash that it would have cost. Then instead of enjoying the semester, I would have been so stressed on the amount of debt that I would end up owing. Now that I work full time, I'm kind of trapped because at most I could take maybe a month off. And then when you come back, I'd be punished with my backlog of e-mails. So typically, I limit my trips to being no longer than a week. Also, I only get 4 weeks a year, so I have to use my time off sparingly and making it stretch.
I have no idea how I got to this video but I started watching and had to finish. Good stuff. I was 16 in 2009 so I remember seeing all this from having younger sisters. Thanks
If these sweepstakes happened now, in the age of social media, you KNOW the winners would be all over TikTok and Instagram.
@erin1427 why does everyone wanna know who won a contest that was 15+ years ago? What is the obsession? Are you guys okay?😭
this video brought back several forgotten memories
Now that I’m an adult it feels super weird to me that all of these large corporations were pretty much pimping these kids out in exchange for more profit 🥴
That’s disneys business plan
Ya.. were..
The original sweepstakes said 5 cruises, meaning 5 different winners
I remember as a kid I won some slime, backpack and a few other Nickelodeon themed items from entering a contest for nickelodeons kids choice awards. I was so excited as a kid to win something like that, still remember it to this day. Made me feel super special.
I have the strongest feeling the potential winner threw away their winning sweepstakes packet
I love how that one guy kept replying “oh yeah that’s me who won the sweepstakes 😇 ((in super tiny fine print) not the sweepstakes you’re talking about but I just want to be included in the conversation and for everyone to be jealous lol).
You awoke a sleeping memory omfg 😂 I was at church camp as a kid, me and my friend who slept next to me on the top bunks thought some gossipy girl we didn’t like was listening to our conversations at night. To prove she was listening I hatched a petty little plan in which I lied and said I had won one of these sweepstakes (maybe a Campbell’s brand one I think I’m too old to have been at church camp when the Sprouse twins were big) and we just kept upping the lie about what I had “won” until we went to sleep. The next day the girl came up to me and my friend and in front of everyone goes “Mmmhave fun in the mansion you won” while rolling her eyes and I just cackled and said “I KNEW YOU WERE EAVESDROPPING THANKS FOR CONFIRMING! Now mine your own business.” The girl got so embarrassed, honestly it was better than winning any sweepstakes 😂
That is absolutely hilarious
Trust me bro, girls only eavsdrop when they want you
That's not eves dropping, that's you not being quite and just going to f-ing sleep. She had no choice but to listen to y'all yapping all night.
You doing all that just to humiliate her when she did nothing wrong just makes you a psychopath, wow weren't you a stupid kid smh.
Rookie mistake on her end
I distinctly remember seeing that school sweepstakes one when I was a kid. This whole video also reminded me that somewhere in my closet is an anime styled drawing of Zack and Cody playing some sort of game console (possibly a DS) that I drew in like, the 2nd or 3rd grade.
That is so 2000s
Most likely Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver.
TikToker: Who won the Danimals trip?
Max: Yeah that was me
Ashley: *Amazing, every word of what you just said...was wrong*
Believe it or not, Caribbean is actually pronounced "care-ib-BEE-an". Yes, Disney got it right. The Spanish named the region the Caribbean after the indigenous Carib people or Kalinago, who lives on the Lesser Antilles (the small eastern islands). They pronounced Carib as "CAR-ib", and in Spanish the word for Caribbean is Caribe (CAR-e-bay).
I hope you know that your pronunciation spell out does nothing to actually decipher between the two pronunciations.
@@TheAbandonedAccount7 Americans typically pronounce it CAH-rib-bean. What I'm saying is the first part should have an r sound rather than an h
@@AverytheCubanAmerican i say care-ib-BEE-an and im american xd (maybe its because my dad was a travel agent and went to the caribbean all the time when he was a kid and lived there for a few)
you mentioned the one for singing with miley cyrus and i swear to god you unlocked a memory for me. when i was younger, my mom signed my brother and i up for a modeling contest thing at the mall and i ended up winning the contest. they offered us a contract for me to sing with miley, i don’t know if it’s the same thing as what you mentioned tho because it was around the time they were promoting her hannah montana movie. my mom ended up not signing the contract, she didn’t trust the way hollywood treated kids and thank god she didn’t lmaoo. pretty sure they offered it to someone else after that!
Dang. Good for you but I definitely would’ve begged my mom because I had no idea what it’s like 💀
god, i remember these sweepstakes so well. it actually came up in conversation with my mom recently, and apparently when i was little she had to double check and make sure i actually liked danimals and didn’t just wanna win lol
There is a possibility I tried to enter one for Naked Brothers band as a kid but I for sure hated Danimals. but I was pretty young and could be misremembering
i never tried to enter any of them but i loved danimals as a kid! They were so good. My parents couldnt get me to drink regular yogurt smoothies bc whatever they put in danimals were genuinely crack (probably sugar)
These Danimals commercials are like a core memory of mine. I specifically recall the winner of the Dylan and Cole video submission contest being a girl that submitted a pretty well made music video but I cannot for the life of me remember a single detail from that video.
Please do more videos on obscure mysteries and lost media like this! You did a great job presenting everything!
Man I look at this video and am thinking of all the other old websites that have been abandoned and never archived or archived poorly. So many remnants of a bygone era just lost.
The Naked Brothers Band one would be the funniest one to bring up considering both have gone on to have serious acting careers, with Alex starring in Hereditary, that they’re probably the ones who rarely get asked about that stuff lol
leaving this for the algorithm ❤ love the video and the super obscure topic. it’s vids like this that remind me how much has happened and been lost to the internet that we don’t even know about
ur doing great ash, your hard work is seen
I was not expecting to get lore about Max when I clicked on this video but that sure was a weird thing to figure out after seeing him on my tiktok for you page so many times lol.
I genuinely feel like there's so many sweepstakes out there that are never really won. Even now in the modern social media time I feel like actual winners barely ever surface and its a little suspicious to me.
God, this was such an odd time. I'm gonna guess I'm the age now that they were in that commercial and it's just so.. _meh_ feeling for them. I watched Suite Life as a young kid and it really just seems like male child stars hit this point that they just sort of turn "normal," not that they weren't already, but it seems like this usually happens at the same time starting at the point that female child stars go all desensitized and hard charging in their career, and I think it's because most male child stars aren't being sexually pressured and groomed at that age like girls are in that position. Cole and Dylan just seem so genuinely disinterested in what's going on, not that they dislike being there or are uncomfortable, just straight up bored.
very well thought take from a supposed edge lord
I dont disagree with the points you made but there's definitely points to be made about male child stars getting into drugs and alcohol, and even having mental issues from being child stars even though they may not have had the scrutiny or even body dysmorphia that female child stars had
Erza miller was a child star and look at him.
The reality is cole and dylan had better parents, not good parents but better same with Miranda Cosgrove, they were actually protected from pedos to a degree
I think you just only hear about the women because,
1) if nudes leak, people care and look
(cole nudes also leaked by no one cared)
2) misogynist people feel a need to shame and remember every mistake.
3) its not just the old men in Hollywood that are creepy
A lot of male child stars do get sexually pressured and groomed, it's just that society has this belief that boys CAN'T be victims of sexual abuse.
This is the kind of random shit I love to be recommended on RUclips. I don’t even know what the hell the Danimals Sweepstakes is but I’ll be damned if the title didn’t catch my eye
At first I thought Danimals was a youtuber named Dan who liked animals.
A lot of companies make these sweepstakes giveaways knowing that people always end up throwing away the winning tickets anyway
I dont think that's how it worked. i would think you entered your info on the website and got chosen randomly
I can’t even look at Danimals after how much I hate-drank it in hopes of winning this contest.
Not one of my most memorable dreams was being on a cruise with Dylan and Cole after watching one of these commercials 💀💀💀💀
Has anyone ever tried to reach out to Dannon about the contest winners? Legally, I believe you're supposed to post the name and town/state of contest winners for a year after the prize has been awarded, and then retain that information for 5+ years afterwards. My guess is they have that info somewhere in the Dannon archives, because I have trouble believing they would regularly purge their records. That said, it's possible that the information can't be posted publicly due to the nature of the contests being geared towards kids, and my knowledge of contest rules applies to now, not 2008, and to TV channels, not corporations.
I know this is random but I followed that dude with one arm ages ago so thank you for including him because I’d really convinced myself that he was a fever dream from my youth
The thumbnail alone unlocked every memory I have ever had of the early 2000s trying desperately to beg my mom to buy the foods from every disney or nick sweepstakes
"many will enter, few will win" brought back actual flashbacks
I remember when I was in elementary school at lunch one day a girl in another class ran around the cafeteria showing everyone that she had one the elusive Danimals Sprouse Twins Caribbean Cruise Sweepstakes. I obviously was skeptical and demanded to see the evidence, to my amazement the contents of the yogurt clearly stated she was the winner. I remember exclaiming that it was definitely way too late to claim the prize since the commercials weren’t airing anymore. Could just be a false memory but I have recalled that story to other people in the past.
What was her name??
You sounded like a hater
'who won the danimals sweepstakes'
Scoot Cramer
It does make sense that the winners wouldn't be made super public, they were kids, doxxing might not have been as big of a talking point back in 2010 but internet stranger-danger was still being hammered into kids heads
Omg I have not thought of the concept of a block party in so long 😂😭😭 we need to bring them back!!!!
oh my fucking god, before I even start this video I gotta say I've thought about this contest at LEAST once a year since it happened. Anytime I see danimals, gogurt, or any other kid targeted yogurt I think back to when I wanted to win this contest. Even did one of my most hoodrat things which was sliding the bottles out of the cardboard, writing down the codes and entering them online when I got home. Excited to see where this video goes lmao
My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined.
Still toss you a sub though
Ooh I'm excited for this!! I won the Kids choice awards +1 sweepstakes in 2009!! I am so into this kinda stuff. I never thought people actually won these things
woah how was the kids' choice awards thing?
The people who won the sweepstakes became office furniture for Wayfair
So they got trafficked? Disney is sick
Also the throwback to Club Libby Lu which was the COOLEST STORE EVER TO EXIST
In all sincerity, videos like this is why I love the internet. 🥰
Also, those danimals entries were way too good. " They make me so STRONG " lmao 😂 I love it
"Many will enter but few will win" is my favorite Bible verse
answering the real questions!
God it’s been age’s since I’ve had Danimals. I remember all the kids would flock to your table if you had one.
You are everything I desire from modern journalism, thank you so much
