Ohmygoodness! So much to say! The mowed area would absolutely be awesome to seed after the goaties have had a day or two to munch their way through the drying cut grass (if they'll eat it) and lay down some fertilizer. LOL It was a delight to see the goats leading and following you around the pond and when their adventure meter was full, see them rubberband back close to the barn. And I think Stormy will give birth before Margie. I would not be surprised to see her go into labor by Wednesday night - with so many first-time Mommas delivering early on average, and her udder really starting to fill up... Call it a feeling. Anyway - looking forward to seeing the barn cam soon!
I still can't believe little Stormy is having her own kid, it feels like she was just born herself yesterday! 🥺 gosh, they grow up fast! I know I'm going to feel the same when Winnie gets preggo 💖 kind of reminds me of when my sister and I got emotionally attached to a meerkat named Flower on a show on discovery Channel when we were kids 😂 anyone seen/remember that? Just me? LOL
Awesome video. They got spooked by something. I am excited to see what babies the mamas are having. Thank you for sharing. Thoughts and Prayers. Love and Blessings. Doris, Penrith 🇦🇺🦘
So excited for incoming goat babies, lets go Stormy and Margie! Always love taking a walk with them, and you, out in the pasture and near the pond. Not sure what it is, but it is sooo relaxing and joyful. - thank you Heather. Seeing the incremental progress you have been making on the greenhouse is such fun, knowing y'allhave worked super hard to build and fill the beds (and learned some lessons with earlier beds), the space is going to be so wonderful in the coming years! Love all of the livestreams so much, they are tons of fun, the birth ones are super cool since we see both the birth from one perspective and then later the video with your perspective. I might be a tad biased hahaha, but the discord community is one of my happy places. So many wonderful people sharing and caring together. 💚💚
I would have to 100% agree with this comment! I watch something on this channel at least once a day. With us becoming new homesteaders Heather has made a lot of things so easy transitioning to it all.
Loved having a little outing with the goats! We are currently experiencing drought in our country and awaiting the rains. I'm also preparing to seed my pastures for the hopefully coming rains. AND this morning my goat i've been, is she isnt she pregnant debating has started filling out a bit in her udder. I am ridiculously excited about it. She has been stringing me along for so long! Adding another doe in milk is going to be huge for me and my homestead dairy dreams.
Thoughts for improving your pastures. If you can get someone to come in with a keyline or a chisel plow to rip the soil. These don't turn over the dirt, they just make deep channels in the soil, to help break up the compaction and get some air down into the soil. Then either lime if it's acidic or gypsum if it's not (most things, especially legumes need calcium). I would seed as big a mixture of stuff as possible, besides grasses and legumes (whatever kinds are native or do well in your climate) seed in lots of stuff like daikon radish, different kinds of kale, swiss chard (some of my goats devour kale and chard), collards. field peas (winter peas) even throw in some dandelion, dock and mullein, any other sorts of things the goats might like. In the spring reseed with things that do well in the warm weather like black eye peas, sorghum or sorghum-sudan grass, sunflowers. Even if the goats don't eat all the things a big mix of things will encourage better biology in the soil and throw in some flowers, for the winter, calendula, for the summer corieopsis and cosmos. Check out Gabe Brown and his story, this is part 1 of a 5 part talk he gave. ruclips.net/video/uUmIdq0D6-A/видео.htmlsi=R3Iuq7P37x82_BzY
I had to cancel my membership not because I wanted to but in order to prep for winter we had to cut all corners with alot of things until we get a little more ahead but I will definitely be returning as a member as soon as I can. Your monthly price is just fine and I appreciate the low price so much I just felt more comfortable until then to cut every corner that was unnecessary in the moment even tho I miss it ❤
I Completely understand!! I can't tell who this is because RUclips is only giving me the @ handle but if you're not in the Discord server and you want to be email me. It's for all current and prior members
Do you worry about coyotes or dogs getting your goats. I’ve lost so many to neighbors dogs they climb the fence and got in not once but twice sorry to say we killed one of the dogs my momma goat was due to deliver too 😢I finally go a live stock dog which has help does your dog run with your goats thank you for your channel love it
My LGD runs on the outside of the fences and so far we have not lost a goat to a predator. I fear the day!!! Keeping the field mowed helps too because the coyote would have to track in the open to get to the barn at night.
Yes we here on our homestead in Michigan, we have had in ground bees and the ones like a soft grey ball hanging in trees for the last few years. This year we haven't seen any. I'm sure they are still here just not were we are mostly at on the homestead. That you Heather for this wonderful video. Kidding season and waiting is also hard for me too. Till next time God Bless.
Loved seeing all of the goat activity! BTW, I'm sure it's not you you but is YT but took 2 commercials for your video to start: long time viewers know it's worth the wait but not sure about people who might have just seen the video pop up & were just checking it out. Will be looking for goat updates!
RUclips Ads don't pop up there for everyone. There's something in the algorithm that understands viewer tolerance with ads and they don't always play them. So far so good with people staying to watch and new viewers coming to the channel :)
Good morning! We have finally been getting rain here! Our goats have been healthy too. Unfortunately, I think it’s been due to it being so dry so I am entering the cooler rainy season with some caution. Have a great day!
It's always good to stay vigilinent because things can change on a dime. I'm so glad you are finally getting rain. Our bucks and wethers were wormy even with the drought which I would not have expected.
It's nerve-wracking knowing something could go wrong and sometimes it does. Nothing completely horrible yet but we have had some tangles. Thankfully everything has worked out. If it came to something really dire there would probably be a time the stream got shut off but really it's a bird on the wall kind of thing. I do talk to the camera but there's no pressure to. They just watch :)
Hey Heather!! We watch your videos and take a lot of inspiration! We even made mozzarella following you. I have a real question about when you harvest your Nigerians. This is our first year butchering, but 9 months seems like they aren’t big enough. Can you just let me know when you do yours?
Nigerians need more time usually. I've noticed some Nigerian Dwarves are teensy!! Ours are bigger from our Havoc line and we can take them from spring to fall and butcher around 9 months but a Nigerian can take twice that time to get to a decent size. You CAN butcher them small if you need to. We have done that and it's like eating a giant rabbit that tastes like pork.
@@SageandStoneHomestead That makes more sense. We so appreciate you! And are right on your videos every time. ATM am trying to get my husband to build me a barn likes yours 😂. I do enjoy that you have a covered space for milking, the rabbits and then a space for kidding as well. We also are looking into a greenhouse. Where did you get yours? Any advice is always appreciated as we are still so fairly new to homesteading ❤️
I’ve had lamanchas for a couple of years. Was ready to breed them for the first time last fall, but I unexpectedly had to euthanize my yearling buck due to sudden and severe UC. My first doe went into heat 3 days later 😢 This year I purchased a very handsome ND buck, and hope to have some minis born this February.
Oh my goodness, $12 a bale is what we pay for alfalfa grass hay at a minimum here in northern Idaho. I could convince my husband to keep many more goats if we only had to pay $4 a bale 😂 at the moment I’m limited to 2 does and 2 bucks.
Wonderful video Heather! You sure do have some beautifully colored/marked goats. But I am a diehard Margie fan. I cant wait to see what her babies look like. Its good that you live so far away, otherwise Margie might wander over to Aunt Beths house in the middle of the night! 😂😂😂. 💜👍💜 Aunt Beth
It sounds like your property is like ours. I always say it's like we're in some kind of valley because there will be storms and rain all around us and our property will stay dry. It was literally raining across the street from us and we didn't see a drop of it in our yard. Weather is so unpredictable!
We had never dealt with in ground hornets before... until this year! We've had a few small nests out front that were fairly easy to deal with, but the boys found a giant one out back in the woods and I don't have any idea what do with that one. Hopefully, they'll die off over winter.
The pasture is looking good. I'm excited about fall baby goats. I am trying to keep up with all the goats, but is the orange and white goat one of the weathers?? Moochi, maybe??
My husband was just saying last night we need to try and get cameras that will work with our barn. We’ve tried some that didn’t work. So I was curious what kind you have for your barn. And are they WiFi? Thank you!
Some other thoughts for you. A portable hay feeder with a roof (check out the one Lumnah Acres built a few years ago for their smaller property. ruclips.net/video/D82bWi6U7TI/видео.htmlsi=QhCbb5x4i-87vNbm That way you can feed out in the pasture where the waste hay will help fertilize and reseed it and maybe encourage the goats to go farther out. Another thought is when the pasture is good maybe don't put out hay in the morning, try and get them to go out and get their own breakfast then just hay in the evening or on rainy days
Not feeding hay and assuming they would go out to eat could have contributed to Calamity's death. I'm not sure. I'm really wary of hoping they'll browse enough since then. Her rumen twisted over. I like the portable hay idea. I just never understand how the hay stays dry even with a small roof. Sideways rain is common here haha
@@SageandStoneHomestead I have super steep slopes so a big heavy hay feeder doesn't work for me. I get sideways rain too. Maybe just don't load it up too much if you are expecting rain so you don't waste too much if it gets wet. And maybe make it with more overhang
Winnie is my absolute favorite!!! She seems so sweet. It looks amazing where your hubby mowed!!! Love seeing the goats in the trees.
It's nice to see the goats going closer to the trees and the pond. Good luck on the kiddings!!!
Thanks so much!! So excited, nothing yet!

If you can find big round bales instead of small squares, your price per pound will be half that off buying those squares.
I don't have a great storage solution for round bales, and portability matters to me too since our hay storage is not near the goats.
