Compressing left and right channel on the drums is dangerous zone. But we know that Andrew is a very brave guy. Who doesn't really care about mono compatibility, by the way. Also as CLA. But it's still a thing. I always checking such things in mono. Not just because someone can listen to it in mono, but because central image is actualy exist even listening in stereo. Especialy this is crucial for low frequencies and weight and punch of the kick drum (and imaging of course). Nonetheless, we can do whatever we want, as Andrew is doing. It's just good to remember that tricks like this is more of the risk, that universal method to make sound better. Just my thoughts:)

I think you're right! The results should still be very similar.

Isn't the point of parallel compression to slam the heck out of the compressor and blend it in underneath? What's up with the moderate settings in these tutorials? How does that establish the consistent signal parallel compression is supposed to give you?

That's how I usually do it. Just showing you how Scheps does it in these videos.

Can you please. Please. Stop comparing the two signals without gainstaging. a simple fx on/off on the parallel channel. It's so easy and makes the world of difference in TEACHING what this proess does.

Yeah, you really need to level match the before and afters, especially on youtube. That little bump in gain is deceiving.
You really should know this by now,. Consider level matching before doing any examples on the youtubes.
