Great video, followed it from start to finish and I now have a newly installed Chamberlain garage door opener. The only comment I have is around the bracket that attaches to the door itself. Mine didnt have a pre-existing bracket already there, so I had to drill 2 metal holes into the middle frame of the garage door, and then use 2 smaller lag bolts to attach the bracket myself. Great video, especially for something made 9 years ago.
This video is the best! If you don't like reading the manual like me, this is better than the installation manual. Thank you so much for putting this video together.
i wish i was in charge of presenting awards for best info video in the shortest time, with no dead rediculous air showing absolutly no useful help with subject matter... you win !!!!
The absolute best video. You covered everything in simple detail. I was able to do this myself instead of hiring someone for an extra 200.00 plus dollars. Thank you so much!!
This video was fantastic. I happened to buy the same garage door opener and find your video the other day. I had your video playing in the garage, walking me through the whole install. It made the whole process super easy. It was the easiest home project I've ever done. Thanks a lot for taking the time to make the video.
That's awesome Tyler Robie, super stoked the video helped you with your opener. They can be a big challenge. You did exactly what I envision, use technology as you're working through the project. This is what makes videos so cool. Thanks for your support and kind words :D
I did buy this garage door opener, or similar model. Your video is pretty much spot on. I will say, I think you left out a very important step, and that is the programming of the "Travel". I followed the directions and when I had trouble, I referred to your video. Once the garage door was up, I thought I was done. I was not. Once hitting the opener, the door travel went all the way to the stop bolt! Actually, I thought this was a defect and got an exchange. This next unit did the same! After reading the directions again...pages later in the instructions, I realized I had to program the "travel". Once this was done, both units worked. While your video was spot on in installing it, I suggest to your guys watching your videos to program the travel before operating it. Also, on a another note, this garage door opener was not compatible with my 2007 Escalade SUV. A compatibility module needed to be ordered according to Chamberline support. Thank you for your video!
Thanks bud, I was able to finish the work in a week. Had to do several trips to home depot. I had to move my bracket support from the attic. Glad it worked perfectly and it is way easier to do it by watching you showing the parts and how to do it. Thanks again. Now I have to tighten the torsion springs :)
Wow! Thanks dude. Your video really helped me out a lot and was a whole lot better than reading the manual. Being able to watch it on my phone in the garage while pausing after every step was invaluable. Thank you SO much for doing this!
This video saved me alot of money and time! Thank you so much! I was trying to fix my friends garage door opener/closer when I was running into a snag. Make a long story short, after watching your video, I had enough confidence to be able to repair the issue. Thank you!!!!
I can't thank you enough for this well-made video. My opener that went bad was identical to yours, and I replaced it with a Chamberlain belt drive like yours because of this video. They owe you. Thanks.
Glad I could help, the opener had good reviews and I bought it based off those. Doing the video was really just to document that process and help anyone else who was doing the same thing. Great job installing it!!
I just installed mine with this video. Oddly enough I had the same exact one you did. So this video was a big help. Works so smoothly now. Very quiet motor. Thank you sir!
This is my first You Tube video review. This video is super helpful, I'm going to be replacing my opener this weekend and reviewing your video as I do so. Thanks keep up the good work.
Fantastic video! I was very intimidated by this project, but I was able to install the garage door opener following these directions step by step. THANK YOU!!!!!
This video is fantastic. I was trying to find 'new garage door opener installation' videos, and mainly getting results of replacing an already constructed system. I finally found this video and was pleasantly surprised. Thank you so much! :-)
Would like to THANK YOU for your video. After watching your video afew times i decided to buy chamberlain hd520evp and install myself with the help of your video. After about 3 hours unit was installed (i am 65 and slow) The only problem i had was wiring the sensors i had mixed up wires. I saved on having to pay someone to install and i leaned something new. Thank you again
Great video, thanks. I hope Chamberlain is giving you some love, because you just talked me into buying their product. Looks like a great replacement for my broken liftmaster.
I've been eyeing this exact unit. I'm definitely buying it now that I've found a wonderfully detailed video to help with the installation. Thank you! I was mesmerized by the production quality the entire way through.
This video meets my expectation. I am looking forward to buying and installing a garage door opener myself. I was just looking around how this is done and this video has given me enough reason to go for it. Thank you my guy!
Thank you so much for your help your awesome!!!! Without your help I would've never been able to do it and would had to spend hundreds getting someone to install it!
This was an excellent how to video. I think I could actually follow these instructions to install a garage door opener. Very professional and well made. Thanks.
Jeff, thank you so much for taking the time to put this together. I watched the video while in the garage assembling my Chamberlain 5000 that I purchased form Lowes. All the hardware is up, just need to wire it and I'll be done. I much more of a visual learner so this tutorial was a great help. Thanks again!!!
Installed my Chamberlain garage door opener this weekend and these instructions were super helpful! I had to figure out how to do the sensor wiring as well as the garage door button install as well but it was pretty simple (just time consuming). Thanks!!
Awesome video. My son and I followed the video and installed our garage door opener. Perfect. Thank you for posting. I only cursed once during thr project which means it went great
Thanks for the great, informative video and the detailed close up shots. I had been a hiccup while installing mine and just didn't realize the trolley bolt isn't totally circular and I was about to drill out the hole!
Great video!! Thank you. It cracks me up when people dislike good videos and bash them. It's easy to sit behind a computer screen and criticize people, without having done anything to contribute to society. Thank you again for a helpful video.
This is awesome, I haven an ancient opener on a garage with no door access, I plan to get a Chamberlain with battery back up but I was intimidated by the install. This vid is gonna help a lot!
Thank you. The instructions in the booklet were not very clear and I made a couple of mistakes. However, after watching your video, i quickly saw where I made the mistakes and was quickly able to rectify them.
Well done video! Installed my new Chamberlain opener last night (lightning got my old one), and this video was right on target. Thanks for taking the time to document and show the process. I've got a couple busted knuckles (my own fault), but my wife is happy the garage door is back in action, and you can't beat that proud DIY feeling. Thanks!
Just installed this unit yesterday but should've watched this first. Two items slowed me: the stop bolt and the spring nut. At first thought I didn't have the stop bolt as nothing I had resembled the bolt graphic. The spring nut stumbled me too, as never used that and I noticed that you glossed over that section. The spring nut section should be exact as I suspect many are like me. Took me awhile then it sorted. thx
+Jeff Patterson lol, what's odd is that for all bolt applications, the directions had a nice graphic to match up. But not so with the stop bolt. And the spring nut needed a brief and to the point sentence showing that the entire unit was one piece to be installed THEN the spring popped over the disc thingie. That little spring nut thing was totally alien to me. All good as this 3/4 hp unit with the inside door timer with motion sensor for the lights and the outdoor keypad and the quiet belt is easily the best opener ever. Just trust that it works for years.
All installed had a friend help me out pretty much paint by the numbers. The only issue was we couldn't use the preexisting wires that were run through the wall. The attic has a finished floor and the wires were under there. Chamberlain provided plenty of extra wire. Also the new opener was super easy to program, about as easy as pairing a iPhone to your car. Good luck with this if you attempt this DIY....
Thanks for the video sir. I will need to replace my 32 year old Craftsman opener as it just died. The process really doesn't look that bad but I will have to install the sensors as well because mine is so old that it doesn't have them. Lol
I never even looked at the instructions.. this video was all I used hahaha ended up getting pretty much the same model.. accept mine has WiFi? I guess I will have to look at instructions for that lol thanks!!
Great video except I installed the lag bolts to to the drywall only and not into any wood beams. After a day and a half the drywall gave out and the unit crashed down onto the roof of my Porsche. Bummer! (Ha ha - just kidding). On a serious note the video was very helpful and made it much easier than relying on the directions. Thanks Jeff!
He did a very nice job on the video and for the most part was correct,(there were a few mistakes he talked about). But there are so many issues with the door to begin with that a professional door installer should be able to see. First if the correct tracks were on the door because it has the duct in the center then he could have installed the motor in the center where there is a style on the door (support system) so the motor will not rip the door in case of a mishap while moving. (this is especially true since the door has extension springs on it so they pull evenly). The time he took to mark the wires and so was not needed since you get new ones in the box (color coded) and easy to follow the directions. New Motor = new wires makes sense in case there is a issue with the wires somewhere. The safety sensors do not stop the door from opening or closing like he mentioned (a big myth customers think) Safety sensors are designed to REVERSE the door while in the DOWN travel ONLY in case something breaks the sensor beam while moving. The door will always open when activated even if you break the beam. And also the bracket on the door that the motor (j arm ) mounted to should have been underneath the strut going across the door. This is on the door to support any unusual pulling force to the door. By being above it there is no support here. Chamberlain is a nice product for a store bought motor but it has the 4 rail pieces that snap together, A Liiftmaster Motor which is made by Chamberlain Corp is a professional grade product so the parts are a upgrade and the rail is a solid steel rail for more support. Just a few things I noticed to let you know sometimes things do not seem as perfect as they seem.
I have a craftsman installed and everything was working fine until one day it only opened or closed half way. All the sensors were still connected and nothing blocking. What could be the problem in your opinion? Nice video by the way, very thorough and easy to follow.
Very good tutorial video. I did notice you had earned yourself a couple of Band-Aids on your digits along the way. I prefer Mickey Mouse Band-Aids. LOL
Well if you need to do this its a good time to do so. Chamberlain is putting out all new openers all will have wifi. I bought a last years model today on clearance at Home Depot regular price $238.00 on clearance $126.00. I purchased the belt driven model. The one I will be installing doesn't have wifi since we open / close our door via the security system. I'll be doing this in the am, I'll let you know how it goes.
awesome vid now i have an old chain opener like your old one if i wanted to get a new garage door opener that is chain driven can't I simply just swap out the unit and keep the same chain and everything?
Great video, followed it from start to finish and I now have a newly installed Chamberlain garage door opener. The only comment I have is around the bracket that attaches to the door itself. Hardly read the directions, watched and used the entire video to set up the garage door opener. Thank you very much for posting!

Awesome! Thank you for your kind words. Happy it helped, most directions for this kind of project can be a challenge

Hey joe6pack9 - if I can do it I'm sure you can :D
Thanks Jeff!
Thanks for the video!
Thanks for the video. I was wondering the other day how hard it was to change one out. Doesn't look too bad, just time consuming.
It took me a little while but only because I'm filming video. I bet you could do it in 3-5 hours
nice video... seems pretty simple
Great video. Thanks for your time.
john sims glad to help any time :D
Nice install dude! Sad to see the 1260 go though!
Great video thanks for the demo.
+Nick Safdari thanks, did you install one these door openers

I have a craftsman installed and everything was working fine until one day it only opened or closed half way. All the sensors were still connected and nothing blocking. What could be the problem in your opinion? Nice video by the way, very thorough and easy to follow.
Nice video!
thank you so much I will install tomorrow
Glad to help
Very helpful, thanks.
itislife glad to help :D
Awesome...thank you!
Feeling a bit more confident, thanks :)
cool, if you take your time you'll get it done
Do you have a video on how to install the wall control?
Thanks ! Nice video.
Thanks Carlos Mata
