From my personal experience of having a beard as long as I have, I would honestly say really depends on the person and their type of hair. if they have curly hair it tends to be more dense if the hair is straight here tends to be a little more "see-through" the hairs are finer but when it comes to different backgrounds. with individuals it just depends on your beard type, if you get down to it. If you're middle eastern, African American, Hispanic, Italian, Greek, you'll have curly dense beards, if you're Irish, Scottish, polish, ECT more european you'll have more straight beard hair but since I'm ethnically mixed it also depends on your genetics. Some times you can grow one, sometimes you can't. Do your own research at the end of the day, trial and error boys stay bearded and strong 💪
I feel like can get away with picking either direction when my beard is shorter. When it gets longer, my chin area has finer hairs and it appears to be longer. If I pick up, it'll look CRAZY! At the end of the day, it kinda boils down to preference and how you like style your beard. Just my two cents 👊🏾
So: massaging with the comb or pick upwards stimulate the folicles The best part about growing a full beard IS the maintenance. Genetics plays a HUGE part in the process that can be maintained once a week and once every two weeks with a hot oil butter. If you CANNOT grow the fullness under the bottom lip: don't stress. You can't change what the creator has blessed YOU with. Water. Tea tree oil/coconut oil mix. Hot oil treatment with vitamin E oil should help improve areas that are corse: usually on the sides and moisturize the soft chin hair.

I always comb it downwards and it's already fluffy enough... I never tried to pick it up wards and I don't even want to try.
